I have a chocolate german shorthaired lab hybrid. He's a rescue dog and one of the best hunter retrievers I've ever had. He was 3yrs old when I adopted him. Don't forget about ALL the great hunting dogs waiting in shelters for their SECOND CHANCE.

I've had Labs for years. My older dog is a Boxer I got as a pup so I'm used to high energy dogs. Seven months ago my larger mixed male Boxer died suddenly so after seeing my girl Boxer mourn his death for a few months I picked up what I was told was a black lab puppy of 12 weeks or so. Turns out he is an all black GSP with a white spotted star on his chest. He is often like a black tornado of energy. Very sweet affectionate and lovable but he takes a lot of attention and thinks everything in the house is a toy to grab and make us chase him. I usually get them to doggy daycare at least once a week for ten hours or so. He is then a very calm dog until the next day. I also take them to the dog park once or twice a week where he gets along famously with all the other dogs for about two hours each time and that also calms him down for several hours. We have a fairly large fenced yard where they spent the day during decent weather. He has definitely made himself a part of the household but I think I need to do much more with him. Having him simply as a house dog is like using a high end sports car to go to the grocery store. He is nine months old now and I'm looking for a way to let him reach his potential.

Try a duck dummy. Get liquid sent for the dummy and change it up from duck to pheasant. You can throw or hide it. Liquid sent and dummies can be found at Walmart. My chocolate german shorthaired lab (yep a hybrid hunter) will track deer so deer sent is good as well. My dog is a rescue and I still can't get over why on earth anyone would abuse and neglect any of the amazing hunters. The key to GSP is scent they are VERY houndy.

I think the video is good but down plays the disparity in manic energy between labs and gsps. Labs are energetic but it's nothing like GSPs.

Watching videos for both breeds, she seems to resemble both traits, obviously, but it’s helping me to understand her with these videos. Love fulfilling her exercise daily needs, she’s so happy when she’s working.

I really want a gsp but I work a full time job. I got my first gsp when I was 12 and I trained him to go off leash in a field and on our lawn in just 3 weeks at the age of 15 weeks. I work a full time job and I am going to give him 1 hour of field exercise in the morning and 1-2 hours when I come home. I will also be paying a neighbourhood kid to walk my dog around the block and play with him in my backyard for a bit. Do you think my dog will be ok.

I have a 17wk old GSP - he is A LOT of work! He is a hearty little guy. Has managed to eat a lot of fringe off an expensive sofa without any health repercussions. Yet, he is so so loving and a big clown. I really would be lost on training if it wasn't for my 20 month old Doberman girl. She had him housebroken by 9 weeks (she is super sharp). And, she has trained him in the 'no hard biting' arena too. My doberman is more stoic and serious but this curious little clown has given her a less serious attitude. Both share the same energy level. So, its been non-stop laughs for us watching them play. This GSP also is no slacker, he gives 100% of himself in everything. It suprises me to see him already jumping in the river and chasing her up the embankments, jumping in the swimming pool. One thing about my little guy that i didn't expect was that he whines incessively! If he doesn't get his way, he whines and grumbles. I really adore this little guy, but I'm so glad I got him after getting my doberman. He's a handful to keep attentive, and is easily bored with training. My doberman was extremely easy to train and quickly learned a plethora of words. Dobermans are smarter, but he has an instinctive intelligence she's learning from him. Agile, curious, silly, and brave are words that describe my GSP. 😇😈

What about afecshenet level do they like to cuddle in general, what about which breed is better with kids & seniors. Can they both Relax at home watching movies Ect if properly exercised. these kind of questions are good for people looking for Family pet & no channels seems to address these questions. bringing a pet into a modern household poses a lot of questions & lifestyle changes. A large majority of people watching these videos are not comparing or looking at dog breed for working roles.

Pointadors seem to be growing in popularity in the states. Here a breeder is hoping for the best of both breeds gentle and loyal, good hunters and watch dogs. Have you any experience? Would love to see you do a program on this GSP designer dog.
@hitchyourwagon47202 жыл бұрын
@Stryker GSP I have owned purebred labs and GSPs, both are great breeds but my Pointador experience was the best dog I ever had for what I need. I bought a second one for that reason. If “nobility” is the main reason for a dog purchase then there are plenty of breeders out there to choose from.

I have a chocolate german shorthaired lab. Yep that's what they call these hybrids. BEST HUNTER RETRIEVER EVER. He retrieves, tracks and is an exellent home protector. He is a rescue dog (go figure) that is not gun shy and is ready to go for any adventure. DONT FORGET ABOUT SHELTER DOGS there are great hunters out there waiting for their chance to hunt and have loving families.
@lisaetter29412 жыл бұрын
@Stryker GSP Tell that to the breeders of chocolate german shorthaired lab hybrids. You can't touch a pup for less than 500 dollars. I was lucky enough to find one at a shelter and he's the best hunter retriever I've ever had. These dogs are almost always spayed and neutered as breeding them has ZERO purpose. Go look them up online and see these magnificent hybrids. They out work the purebred dogs hands down as they should.

Met a Pointador at the park a couple days ago. My Pointer/Dachshund mix acknowledge her as a pointer and they romped quite well. Behavior of the Pointador seemed GSP with the manic energy turned slightly down.
@RobertSmith-lh6hg2 жыл бұрын
@Stryker GSP so, nevermind that the GSP has hound, retriever, poodle etc in the bloodlines already and that GSPs have very strong traits which usually overshadow the mixed breed traits. Nevermind that mixes tend to have fewer health issues. Nevermind that most "breeders" are garbage and those who aren't charge unobtanium prices. Nevermind that a lab and pointer posses complementary traits. Since you want to sit and stare at your noble GSP none of us should get mixes....lol.

English lines typically have much less energy and are easier to train. Both have amazing personalities but the American labs are more hyper and will require more exercise. I have always chosen the English lab.

Out of curiosity, I took the 'Best Guard Dog Breed For You Quiz,' and got Staffordshire, aka: Pit Bull. LOL! Hate them, and I mean HATE. I was quite sad for the dead 3 year old boy who lay under the sheet with the still-in-place intubation tube lifting the sheet above his face, while the utterly insane mother literally defended the breed while being interviewed by the coroner. But when a pit bull advocate was mauled by her own dog, I felt a peculiar satisfaction. It was like that relief I'd feel when a drunk driver managed to mangle themselves without harming any innocent parties. Perhaps the first question of that quiz should be, "Do you agree with the statistical finding that pit bull owners are 6.8 times more likely to be convicted of an aggressive crime, 2.8 times more likely to have carried out a crime involving children, 2.4 times more likely to have perpetrated domestic violence, and 5.4 times more likely to have an alcohol-related conviction when compared to low-risk dog owners, and can you fit into this demographic of reprobates?" 😆
