Motorcycling to Roa Island and the Far Western Lakes - part 1

Ian and David join me in Yorkshire for a few days of motorcycling on the very best roads in England. On this day we head from Settle across Lancashire to Hest Bank, Arnside, then along the brilliant A5087 ro Roa Island for lunch.

P.S. A class 9 train is an Avanti West Coast express service. Class 9 trains used to be a freight train that didn't have continuous braking capability, but since those trains no longer run on the UK network the class 9 has been allocated to west coast mainline express services.

I had to laugh at the beginning. My brother is the same. Tightfisted as they come, won't buy anything that will make a ride simpler, wears gloves he's owned for 30 years, trousers that hang off him since he lost weight but won't buy a new pair etc etc. The likelihood of him putting his hand in his pocket for an intercom that works is nil.
