Written Checklist/guide available on my Patreon: www.patreon.com/posts/tamas-pokemon-1-110976478 No pledge necessary, I have made it a free post so that everyone can use it. I missed a pretty big chunk of exclusive content to the Japanese versions of Stadium when I wrote my guide (Japanese Stadium 2, aka Stadium 1 has 3 unique cups that aren't in the English version). Guide updated with relevant info/sources for preparing teams! Note that this makes the planning section for the Japanese leg of the run in the video totally inaccurate, I regret that because Nintendo Cup 99 is unique to prepare for.

I completed my pokedex in Blue last year and consider that 100% by my standards. I used glitches, mostly to spam rare candies, but also to catch Mew. I also used a copy of Red to trade back and forth with on a 2nd Gameboy. It was a good time and it was nice to finally complete a goal that I originally set for myself when I first played the game back in '98. Only took me 25 years! 😅

i have technically been watching your content since i was 7 (stumbled upon your uber old rom hock videos back in the day) and im 22 now and i just wanna say i absolutely adore this style of content youre doing esp because you can just feel the heart and passion oozing out of it!!!! what really gets me is 41:00. something is just so wonderful about hearing you suggest that checking the Invisible Hotel PC is a necessity to 100%ing Gen 1. i think you might be the first person in the world to say that. and yet!! you are absolutely 10000% correct!!!!!!! such a silly little obscure glitch and yet it means something about the games themselves, doesn't it? the little oversights that show the humanity that often gets forgotten when we're immersed in these worlds. one of the big reasons i think i stuck with pokemon was because of watching youtubers like you explain pokemon oddities, especially gen 1 oddities. i was too young to experience MISSINGNO. first hand, but learning about missingno, the truck, even down to the meaningless details like "heehee the devs forgot to remove the PC interaction in this random hotel in celadon" connected our world to the real while also managing to create its own unique one, with its own oddities and mysteries. its just nice to see that something so little, so meaningless, so trivial as one dev oversight, is noted and marked for being a unique experience, a strange little oddity, but its nothing to forget. its important enough to archive and remember and check it out every once in a while and experience the game for EVERYTHING it is, not just the gameplay and story but the little details and oddities too.

Pro tip to others on this journey: use a capture card for your N64 to Discord screen share your journey with friends! Many ways to do this, hilariously I'm using an "N64 to HDMI" cord -> Elgato HD60 S+ capture card -> "HDMI to AV" convert cable to split it off to my CRT. Somehow feels lagless despite the upscaling into downscaling lol (I'm sure there's a frame or two that I'm not noticing).

I've had so much fun with the guide and just playing Gen 1 games in extra ways for the past few days that I had to sub to Patreon to tip you! Thank you for this, very excited to give the video a watch That said, I noticed a minor error with the guide - it has "Can also use Cinnabar edge to catch Safari Zone Pokemon outside of the Safari Zone." as a subcategory of beating Pokemon Yellow - but this glitch only works in Red/Blue. I understand this was basically just where all glitch options were listed, but wouldn't hurt to mention this so others don't have to research it on their own :)

I think you can also purchase "region-free cartridge slots" for N64 online if you don't have a dremel tool or otherwise don't want to modify your N64's original parts, and keep the original slot safe if you ever want to restore it. Those are usually 3D printed or molded already and sold for cheap. It'll fit both Japanese and North American style N64 cartridges.

omg hype! Lately I've been working on what I'm calling a "Super Living Dex" which is basically a Living Dex for each possible combination of met region and origin mark (including evolutions introduced after a generation), plus anything else that's notable (in-game trades, underlevelled Pokémon, Stadium prize Pokémon, etc.), doing as much 100% completion I can as I go - this video's definitely given me a few more ideas! I'm currently working on gens 1+2, but this video has made me realise that I hadn't considered level caps in the Stadium games, because I'm so used to modern games levelling Pokémon down... I also hadn't considered Japanese Stadium as a game to play at all, so that's another one to think about, especially given I was already thinking my next gen 1 playthrough should be Japanese Blue.

Max stat experience at lower levels is quite easy. You can get max stat experience before level 50 even if you start at level 40. For some lower levels however, you will often have to trade to gen 2, deposit your pokemon into the daycare to reset it's EXP bar, and then trade it back to gen 1 to continue training.

"quite easy" even glitchless? Even 10x Vitamins per stat is a tall order, and then you still need to KO, for example, roughly 1000 tentacool per mon to max it? Using glitches and speedup makes it probably not that bad? But without that, you're probably looking at upwards of 50 hour investment per pokemon unless I'm missing something?

The hard work is greatly appreciated!! A very small note that may help someone else: I did use a different glitch to get access to MissingNo in Yellow sooner than Moltres/another late game high special stat pokemon (slightly, still needed access to Cinnabar for Ditto) iirc I did the “get a level 100 Pokémon before Brock” trick to obtain a level 100 Nidoking, and I messed with its special stat until I got the needed number. Strange to get a Stand By Me callout in a pokemon game, it’s a really good movie and one I love. But also a tough movie about loss, guilt, and regret where boys set out to find the corpse of one of their peers- in a childlike way it was always about the adventure for them, hoping to find the body but not really betting on it. That is of course until they come face to face with the morbid prize at the end of the adventure. If you parallel this to gen one maybe you could find the same moral? What does Red find at the end other than the strange quiet atop Mt. Silver.

I love this sort of video. I used to host Stadium 2 tourneys back in the day and would spend a good part of my cashier shift at a grocery store just planning out teams. And since it was before smart phones, I'd write down what I *thought* a Pokemon could learn, and then go home and verify later. Creativity in team combos and type coverage across a team that works well together is sorely missed in modern Pokemon since we aren't often limited by 3v3 battles. I still think Poke Cup is the best format to this day. Being able to see your opponent's 6, and then picking your 3 caused a lot of stress!

I feel like a lot of the extra stuff is unnecessary, but mad respect if you can do everything on that list. For me it's: - Complete Red, Blue, and Yellow with unique teams, for 18 distinct mons - Complete the Pokédex in one of the games (I'm choosing Yellow) - Complete Pokémon Stadium Everything else can be considered optional. I'm already kinda irritated that I have to make three MORE teams because of the level limits on the Petit, Poké, and Pika Cups that I was unaware of.

There's a lot more you can do with tradebacks, multiple fire blast blizzard thunder tms from game corner. thunderpunch, ice punch, fire punch as purchasable and the move tutor in crystal
