It's a high quality French Polish that is used musical instruments. It can even improve the sound. acousticguitar.com/guitar-guru-what-is-french-polishing-and-is-it-worth-it/ While it's not generally used on traditional ouds, it is something that more and more people are demanding these days. I also prefer the old school unfinished soundboard, but that's just me.

never and never varnish the sound board it looks good but bad sound for Arabic music. Turkish......and I'm very sure if they didn't varnish this oud the sound will be a lot better.

Nica looking and sounding instrument, Navid! Typical Arabic one - clean and even tone, not much resonance and sustain because of the dense coating and probably the wood of the soundboard. I like it very much! So sad that here in Bulgaria it is almost impossible to find and test different ouds.
