I literally watched this video 8 minutes ago and it took me 6 minutes to change my lights! Thank you for this!!

Son of a B. I gutted the entire right inside of my escape (which has the exact same light out) to see if the connectors were somewhere inside. Just before giving up and taking it to the shop i looked it up and found this. Saved me some money. Just cost me the time it's now gonna take me to put this all back together after i swap the bulb out. 😑 Thanks man!

This was a well-made tutorial in how to replace the light bulb. I saved a lot of money for my sister for this DIY project. Plus, the dealership won't get paid for this service.

I'm 67 and have mild arthritis in my hands. Taking the housing off was a challenge. I tried prying it off with a towel covered tool - didn't work. I tried my fingers -- didn't work. tried wearing rubber gloves -- didn't work. Then I took the heel of my bare hands, applied slight pressure and pushed the housing toward the rear. That worked surprisingly well and quickly. If I can do it, you can do it with a little help from the video.
@SpiderMikeF3 жыл бұрын
I faced a challenge getting the housing off too. Shouldn't be that hard. Poor design, Ford. After pushing, pulling, getting grip with a rubber jar-opener, I cracked off the top by the thin part over the slot. I ultimately got it out by standing at the back of the car, grabbing the rubber seal with one hand, and gripping the top and bottom of the back of the housing with the other (where it flares out a bit away from the car) and pulled towards me. Crazy glued the broken plastic. Not looking forward to changing the next bulb.

...great tutorial! Easy to follow the instructions! The one thing that I was given when buying the replacement bulbs, was AGS Bulb grease, which i've never seen before! I searched online but was unable to find an explanation on how to apply to these particular bulbs! Maybe add a revision to the video at some point? Cheers!

Nice video! Straight and to the point. Of course Ford could just make a little trap door to get to the bulbs, lol. I went ahead and did both left and right brake lights since the bulbs come in a pack of two. Also, it's a 7 year old car now, so I figured the other side would go out soon enough anyway.

Mine was stuck also and wouldn't come loose. After wrenching my wrists several painful times to no avail I figured there had to be a better way. I noticed there was a white hook shaped tab on the bottom of the lens housing up in between the quarter panel and the housing. I slipped a strong shoelace in there and snagged it. It gave me enough pull strength to pop it out. I didn't think of using duct tape but I will try that next time. I also coated the inserts with white lithium grease so hopefully it will slide off easier next time.

Thanks for the tip. The light cover was kind of a chore to get off but I finally got it. It doesn't just slide, I had to wedge a plastic card shim in to get it to budge.
@rmzzz762 жыл бұрын
TY for this. Did you have to disconnect the battery before doing this? Looks like they've made it so you don't have to disconnect the battery.
@patrickkelley52613 жыл бұрын
Watched to remind me how to do it. Did one last year, now it's time for the other. It is sneaky-tough to get that outer lens assembly loose the first time. It simply does not want to come free, but it will.

Thanks for the video! My moms brake light just went out and was wondering how the assembly came out. Gotta say I like that a light in the dash comes on when it's out cause I know my mom probably never checks to see if her lights are working.

Excellent instructions, but a weird thing happened with my Escape. The console display warning said that there was a brake bulb fault, alerting me to the problem. So I bought a brake light bulb. But when I opened it up, the brake bulb and turn signal bulb were in opposite positions to those shown in the video. So I had the wrong bulb and had to go buy the correct, amber turn signal bulb. It might be good advice to open the thing up before buying the bulb!

Thanks. I'd check the bulb before putting the bolts back in. Just in case the bulb didn't work, just saves a small step. Super minor point. I'd do the other bulb at the same time. I didn't used to do that, but sure enough the other bulb usually ends up going in 7 weeks and you just wish you did them both and were done with it.
@FerdinandMagellan085 жыл бұрын
You're correct. I should have but never once thought about confirming the bulb being good.

btw, those screws may be 8mm but I used 5/16" socket and it fit fine. So don't go out and buy metric sockets just because you need an 8mm. In fact, I had some metric sockets, but not one smaller than 9mm. So luckily 5/16" worked fine. And if it's a dry day, you can use heat-up your hands with your breath (moist heat) and that moisture on your hands will give you a better grip when pushing on the outer lense to get it loose.

@tyanavadau6 жыл бұрын
Did it work and how did you do it?
@michaelashe52656 жыл бұрын
No, the duct tape trick didn't work. I got really frustrated and started slapping/pushing the thing really, REALLY hard and it finally came off. I though I was going to break it I was pushing/hitting it so hard. I had to go back later and replace another light and it came off easier the second time but still required quite a bit of force.
@tyanavadau6 жыл бұрын
@@michaelashe5265 I was worried about breaking it too. I didn't have duct but thought about the rubber gloves I use for cleaning. The disposable ones eventually ripped but the thick heavy duty ones were great with gripping. It still took awhile but I got it off.
