I own a 2016 escape and have had no problems. I think if you research the escape, a vast majority sold are still on the road. So if you bought one that has not been serviced or not taken care of (from the looks of the interior) with a noticeable noise engine I'd say it's not the vehicles fault.

@Brian Rogers my mother religiously maintains that car. She has never gone over the mileage or time for oil changes and has always went to the dealer. It's not only her experiencing issues, but the 6F35 transmissions that were co-developed with GM and are used in numerous Ford products since 2006 are known to go out and have issues at relatively low mileage. Seemingly common for the transmission to have issues that require an entire rebuilt or brand new transmission at 70k or 100k miles for many owners.

To this day, I drive my 2007 Ford Escape with 157,000 miles (191,000 miles now, Dec. 2023). I bought it when it was 3 years used with 50,000 miles. The only 3 big issues I’ve had in these almost 12 years with me: Transmission broke down about 2 years ago. I had it fixed right away; Starter broke down; steering fluid was leaking. This car has saved me thousands of dollars and everything works great. I’m driving it until the wheels fall off. (edited to change mileage).

Against this backdrop, the automaker issued a technical service bulletin telling dealers to check for coolant leaks in the cylinder head of the 1.5-liter EcoBoost engines found in the Escape (MY 2017-19) and Fusion (2014-19). The repair notice dropped in April, though Ford owners have complained about fluid leaks for a couple of years after a shocking number of owners noticed their engines were overheating - only to find that one of the cylinders was hoovering coolant.

Just did the brakes, it could have lasted till summer but I do highway driving most of the time and like my brakes working well. I have a 2014 ford escape, worst car I've ever bought. My Torque converter went out at 90k miles. Pretty sure my engine is blown at 120k. It blows smoke only at start up. The radio has quit working recently also. It's a legitimate lemon and I wish I didn't owe so much on it.

If you have a 1.5, 1.6 or 2.0 EcoBoost engine then you usally have a quiet vehicle when they have more miles they can get a little noiser, but usally the 2.0 EcoBoost ist the best outta these 3, the 2.5 is obviously an older design and could be a little louder, but on the other hand is the most reliable engine you can get for the Escape.

I fully agree with you. I'm dealing with my wife's 2018 SE right now. What an incredible hunk of garbage. This vehicle is as poorly designed as any I've ever dealt with. Fuel pump died on it and accessing it is incredibly difficult. Up until 2017 they had an access panel under the rear seat...2018 they did away with it. Smart move. Every single time I deal with this Escape multiple flaws become evident and unexpected roadblocks hamper every attempted repair.

I just retired it with 279k and decided to get a 2018 27k on the ODO and was still under factory warranty. The day I received it the Rear Diff was bad. So it went into service got it replaced. around 32k I noticed it was constantly needing coolant but never seen any leaking. Dealer said it needed a new Engine. I have a 2013 Escape SEL, 2.0l Eco., 4WD, w/~77K. Runs well, bought used w/~30K on it from a Ford dealer. I too have concerns about its reliability, but have kept up on the maintenance through the dealer and most recently myself. I recently changed out the transmission fluid at 76K. It looked really bad, like brown mud. I drained and refilled it 3 times before the fluid looked new. The transmission runs very smooth now. It gets crappy mileage (avg ~17-18 city, sometimes lower), but I do live in a very hilly area and don't do much highway driving. I have always filled it with 87 octane from Costco. On the highway it does much better. I did however just filled the tank with 93 octane from Chevon to see if that make a difference mileage. It cost a whole lot more, and after a 1/4 of a tank of 93 Octane I am seeing about 1 1/2 mile per/gal improvement. However, I have friend who had the same year and his transmission started having serious problems at 80k. He got rid of his, and was happy about it.

@@hunterthompson6659 I still have it. Shortly after I changed the transmission fluid as noted above, I went to have the power transfer unit fluid changed and to have the front right bearing replaced. Shop said there were metal particles in the PTU fluid and said I should have the unit replaced. That cost ~$1,500 (half of that was labor). Car started having a noise after that. Shop could not confirm it was coming from the PTU and thought it might be the front left bearing. They said it was still under warranty and to monitor it. The noise has gotten slightly more annoying but seems to be from the front left. I will be scheduling an appointment to have the bearing replaced in the coming weeks. Hopefully that will fix the noise issue. I will post an update. I also put in an oil catch can. That was difficult and don't recommend anyone doing it themselves in this SUV. You need smaller hands and great hand strength to remove a tube. Valves had some build up. The catch can does catch a lot of junk (mostly light brown milky looking goo). The can fills quickly, so I have to check it frequently. I am still using premium gas, mostly from Costco. I am getting about 20 mpg on average with the same driving conditions. SUV is at ~85K and except for the noise it is running well. I still plan to keep it but will change the transmission and PTU fluid every 15K. Oil every 5k.

You can hear the high pressure fuel pump and maybe bad motor mounts under the hood. The loudness from the high pressure fuel pump is completely normal. Motor mounts are a easy replacement. You can always expect motor mounts and/or transmission mounts to fail in vehicles with small motors and small transmissions because instead of putting 2 mounts on the motor, the manufacturer would only put 1 motor mount. And that isn’t just a Ford thing either. Just about any manufacturer that puts a small motor in a vehicle will only put 1 motor mount. As far as the transmission goes, I had a 2012 Focus with the DCT and it didn’t go bad until I had 225k on it. I’m only assuming the Escape in the video probably has a DCT in it as well. They aren’t bad vehicles.

The Escapes are actually above decent sub-compact SUVs. Very nimble, and agile, great for city driving or long distance due to comfortability. The only ones you really have to look out for are the 1.5L I-4 cylinder engines as they have coolant leaking problems-pretty common knowledge among many Ford techs and general population. As well as another common problem with these vehicles are they get abused (the turbocharged engines) and turbo replacements can be expensive. I’d do some research into average life for turbos on these cars, but with proper maintenance and care, shouldn’t be too much of problem.

I am guessing you aren't wanting to do work if you are selling, but a buyer would appreciate $15 - 100, use seafoam in gas tank and throttlebody, the belt needs oiled / belt spray, oil changes are important with turbos, as well, the trans probably needs fluid, I tried a rental for 4 days and it was amazing! But I have never owned one, that is scary to think they have had recall issues for how far people need to be able to drive or commute, vacation. new ignition coils, synthetic oil, 02 sensors, no gap spark plugs, intake manifold gaskets, leak stops in oil (non turbo) and coolant (non turbo), gaskets changed will amazingly improve a 2.3l I want to dyno my car and it is great to know this, because you can find 2.3l in a lot of vehicles even better engine sometimes than 4.0l Mustang Engine computer will not talk about intake manifold gasket being a problem until after 4 new ignition coils are installed and 02 sensors, spark plugs, new belt and idler pulley idler pulley will go too after upgrading those other things, a/c compressor, belt
