You're so lucky to have Pauly! Most farriers these days won't deal with horses that are uncooperative and some expect absolutely perfect behavior. I can't say that I blame them, but in the world of rescues you get so many in desperate need that haven't been properly trained if handled at all. He's a real gem to put himself through all these inexperienced and sometimes naughty horses and still keep coming back!

Pauly risking life and limb once again to help the horses. I don't know why anyone would say anything bad about him. All I see is a man who is passionate about helping horses and willing to risk some pretty extreme danger to do it. These horses are not used to proper care and a scared horse is a dangerous horse.

Pauly deserves a medal for the patience he has and the sheer physicality of being a farrier to a bunch of huge horses that won't stand without being tied in the stocks. Don't people who have draught horses ever teach them from young to pick up their feet and have at least have a rasp put around them so they get used to having their feet done? (But then I's suppose it's safer in there, they can't lean him! )He's so good at what he does 🙂 It's a shame that they don't understand what you are ALL doing for them and where they may be now without you.💜PS Did the kittens survive?

For the kittens you can rub them with a soft washcloth to warm them and get circulation going, and let them sleep with a heating pad that stays on a pretty low heat with a layer between the babies and the pad. That will help warm them at least. I hope Butterscotch takes them in, but cats will reject kittens that have unseen problems. You may be handraising some of them. I feel so sad for those babies, but happy they have you all.

I wish I was close enough to volunteer my time and work with your difficult cases like her, it's hard to give the consistency needed when there's so many that need help.

Farriers wear some sort of protective gear "down there" to protect the family jewels, right?
@electrowave1146 ай бұрын
If a nail goes through where they weren't expecting and there's no protection in the area, it can pierce the thigh artery (which is close to the surface of the skin on the inner thigh) and cause someone to bleed out in minutes. Horses are creatures of pressure and release. Even eyes looking directly at them or open hands that represent claws to them will make them react poorly. Have never worked around drafts but I cannot help but think that there must be a better way than putting them in stocks. So many seem to get scared and putting ropes on their legs is so counter to a horses instinct to flee when frightened. This is not a negative comment about Pauly or Pony Tales Refuge, who do such good work on behalf of the horses, but more a thought about a need that could be met by a new invention or construction.
