They DO care and DO make sure they get value for money. The ferries are just one example of their incredible ability to save money and bring the project in under budget. The SNP only take expenses when absolutely necessary, choosing instead to use their own money from their salary which they voluntarily take a lowered amount every year. Everything that can be done DIY (like the refurbishment of the Scottish Parliament) is done and, I understand, Wee Jimmy is a dab hand with a Long Tom and roller on a broom handle to get the ceilings and corners. All in all the Scottish Govornment has saved hundreds of trillions of Scottish Pounds by working VERY hard and being frugal with The Peoples money. They have even imported thousands of highly skilled engineers and doctors from the south coast of England, along with benefits testers and free house tenants because they are EXACTLY the sort of fresh blood Scotland needs. The SNP are awfy braw...
