That would have been a treat to be there. King Curtis and both Duprees, although I don't think they were related, both were amazing. Cornell Dupree was amazing on guitar and you could see by the smile on King Curtis when he was playing that he was right in the pocket. Everyone on that stage was great and everyone in the audience was lucky to be there.

I love Champion's music. It has got a narrative message with it. Iistened to a lot of his music and that's distinctly his style. He reminds me of our recently departed Hug Masekela; may his soul rest in peace. They both shared this narrative style of play. Curtis on the other side is fantastic as ever. He make sacrifices to communicate an understood language. I also like how Cornell makes his guitar talk. He made it to become his friend. Love from South Africa....

Snow is so deep here I can't even go to the cemetery, Lost my Father back in 85, He was a musician in a Rockabilly band back in the 60's. Reminds me way back 1990 when I was still a boy among old timers playing strictly blues down in Soweto South Africa, Jack was one of my best pianist, my brother is still plying his music.

John Rakuba I also have very special memories when Jack lived in England my father found out where he was leaving.He was in the town of Halifax North Yorkshire I can still remember going to his home and meeting his wife and Christine his daughter we would be there for hours playing the piano and eating gumbo.What memories we have.

The great blues and boogie-woogie pianist Champion Jack Dupree teamed up with the well-loved King Curtis, man of the saxophone, for a special combined set at the 1971 at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1971. Rounding out the band on this version of “Poor Boy Blues” was Cornell Dupree on guitar, bassist Jerry Jemmott holding down the low end, and Oliver Jackson on the drums. Tragically, King Curtis - who was known for his spectacular and diverse playing in blues, rock, R&B, soul, funk and jazz, would be murdered in cold blood only a few short months later in August of 1971. This video shows that he was still in peak form and the prime of his career when he died. To this day he remains one of the most fondly remembered sax players in all of blues and roots music. Enjoy this terrific collaborative performance!

Only saw King Curtis at The Fillmore West leading a big band Backing Aretha Franklin in the legendary Live Recording...Ray Charles was brought up to perform..Beyond Belief!!Was allowed in during the Rehearsals and witnessed some of the greatest perform!Philip Wilson and Keith Knudsen and I were just blown away!!I remember Atlantic Records VIP Jerry Wexler IN A TAN TRENCH COAT encouraging the band as this was an Epic Performance!!Thank u for posting this Dupree selection!!!

My mother just gave me all her old lp's. One of them is a lp Mr. Dupree signed for her after a concert in Berlin in 75-76. He said he couldn't write, but still signed it in the end.

King Curtis staffing his band with such exceptionally talented musicians - and they wanted to play with him in it. From Yakety Yak to this, via Aretha's MD. In the mid-80s I'd heard, even then, he was the most prolific musician - not just sax player - to have played on the most hit records worldwide.
