Thank you for this video. I have just gotten a 1950 Ford 8n tractor up and running after rebuilding the engine from the ground up. I love seeing these old machines made to do useful work, despite being 60 or 70 years old, whether in your Ireland or my own Northern California, USA.

A great start Adrian. I love those old tractors. While I like the patina, the fact that you’ve added new parts to it would make it look odd. Can’t beat a nice new coat of paint. Having written this I’ve just realised that the tractor’s probably finished and up and running!

Great to see the grey fergie being restored. Don't know if ur ferguson has this but on the TE 20 I own there's a button you have to press on the left side, the same side as the battery that u have to press before starting it and then you can use the other button pressed with your leg to get her fired up.

It all depends on how much rust and corrosion is on each panel and part. If there’s a lot on one or more that will lead to either welding and grinding or a replacement you’re looking at re spraying that particular panel or part to leave it looking tidy and prevent the problem re occurring again. It’s easy for people to say one way or another from a distance on camera it’s totally different seeing it in person close up you yourself will be the best judge on what way to go based on what needs doing

Stargas for the Mig 20 litre ( i use 50 litre bottle but there heavy) is a nice size if u intend to move the mig around the workshop or u could use flux cored wire & no need for gas & u can use outside as no gas for the wind to blow away, but welder may need different wire feed rollers

Those sealey migs like 32amp plug if you have one, especially if you want to run full power 👍👍
@francelvaneeden60333 жыл бұрын
2 things quickly. Once you tried and mastered the mig welder you will put the inverter in storage. Trick to mig is instead of pulling you push. 2nd thing what I have seen of you you will eventually paint the Massey as you are a perfectionist and the old petina will start bugging you and if you paint it the exposed metal will rust much easier
@IFarmWeFarm3 жыл бұрын

Personally I'd try and keep the repainting to a minimum as well. You won't be able to avoid painting some things, like where you've welded, etc but I reckon there's nothing wrong with a mixture of colours on a tractor that's already put in a good life's work - it's all part of it's own unique story. Even that dynamo bracket wasn't the worst, it looks like it got someone out of bother once and held up ok!

Painted or leave it as is. Or go mad and airbrush it something completely different dealers choice Try your local motor factor they do rent free gas. Stay away from the rented bottle they are a nightmare to deal with the bigger you go on the bottle usually the better value in the long run
