Fermentation; How To Get Healthy Bacteria To Your System
Learn the benefits of consuming Lacto-fermented foods!
Bacteria is important - there are two types, Pathogenic (BAD) bacteria and then there are good bacteria. If we disinfect everything then we might wipe out the precious good bacterias.
Coconut oil is a great anti-microbial and it is natural!
What we need to do is promote health in the body - not the ridding of bacteria - the good will eventually overcome the bad!
80% of your immune system is in your gut - when we use certain shots and anti bacteria's we wash out the precious bacterias. The things that kill gut bacteria lead to cancers.

I really appreciate Dr Bergman's wonderful efforts. I'm from Eastern Europe and I can say we commonly practice fermentation for hundreds of years to preserve vegetables for supplying nutritious food for the winter season. This is something well tested and tried by millions and generations and a delicious food even as side salad, or sandwich filler. Dr. Bergman! Please never stop to teach Americans for the right ways of healthy diet! Big thumbs up for you!

I'm an RN of 25 years. My mom had crohns and had multiple surgeries for inflamed small intestine. She ended up with an ileostomy & was on steroids most of her adult life. At the time - surgery was how they treated it. I'm completely stupefied & going to make changes to my diet and my family's diet. THANK YOU

I live in Eastern Europe and we love fermented veggies. We eat them a lot in winter. We use aprox. the same process however we also use dried sticks of dill(the plant with leafs and flowers) and horseradish with any vegetable and sometimes chilli peppers. We pickel cucumbers cauliflower carrots green tomatoes some pickel also mushrooms or even small watermelons. For cabbage we use barrels were we put the cabbage and dill and salted water however we insert a hose to the bottom of the barrel to blow air inside from time to time. Good pickles are those that stay crisp. We don't use salt with iodine that will ruin everything. We use 3 tablespoons of corse salt to 1l of water. I drink the sauerkraut juice as part of the effort to restore my gut bacteria. I do not think that you need to wait at least 3 weeks for the bacteria to start living there. If the pickels are fermented not raw anymore it means that they have bacteria that did this.

+Claire Driver it would put them out of business LOL they want to endlessly treat symptoms and never cure anything, they dont want healthy people walking about, doctors of course are mostly good people, just compartmentalized and dont know whats going on, i read that 1 in 25 people is a sociopath, that means 96 percent of people including doctors are good people who care about you :) but sociopaths rise to the top and take positions of power, those are the people who run big pharma dont dont care about your health at all, :)

Because this is food woo. A balanced diet is the best option, good bacteria is found in everything. Moreover, everyone is born with a completely different set of gut bacteria. Therefore, eating fermented foods is like putting a nail in a hay stack, pointless. (Probiotics are only useful after antibiotic dosage, or disease influenced diarrhea)

Very useful video. It helped cure my serious gut problems. I was taking 4 to 6 imodium a day and was unable to eat dairy. Acid reflexes, digestive issues and pain was uncomfortable. It took me 4 months to recover and learnt a lot how our gut works. I can eat anything I like now and as much as I want. Gained my weight back which I lost during my tough times. I was suffering from digestive issues for more than 20 years and it kept getting worse. Hope this helps someone. Never give up.

I'm glad I found this video even if it doesn't give step by step instructions on canning. Still relevant in April 2020 during the nation's stay home quarantine due to the worldwide contagious coronavirus, COVID-19. My husband and I have been to the grocery stores and every time we get back I'm so concerned we'll get the virus, but ever so grateful to God we haven't. I've never fermented anything and I remember when I was a child my mom fermented foods and when I tasted it it didn't taste good. She must've had me taste it when it wasn't how Dr. Bergen is showing how the fermented foods still taste fresh. I still remember the fermented jars got left years in the basement and forgotten and not eaten? I know it's gross. No one's mentioned in the video to first sterilize the glass mason jars, metal rings and lids before you begin any canning. Place a huge stock pot on stove filled with tap water, bring it to a boil, but make sure before the water boils you add a few empty glass mason jars, metal lids and rings, bring water to a boil and now you've sterilized them. Wait for it all to cool off before you begin canning. Or does everyone already know this first step?😕 My mom did know how to do canning if anyone was thinking she didn't know what she was doing, but she did, she was smart. My memories must be hazy, even though I'm in my 40's. I didn't care for some of it probably because kids can be picky eaters and I sure was, and some jars of stuff were forgotten, don't know why? It should of been binned. My mom made the best tasting wonderful strawberry jam. I still miss her😞.

Great video! But there are some things you can do better to get more LAB (lactic acid bateria). When you seal the jar air tight it is an anerobic environment in side the the vessle but the co2 waste by product from the LAB builds up and creates pressure retarding the bacteria and enzymes. No species thrives in its own waste. I use an airlock on a bpa free plastic mason jar lid fitted with a silicone food grade safe gasket. The airlock lets out co2 but does not let in air. Also you said you can scrape off the mold, not a good idea. Mold has microscopic roots that go throughout the product and mold has very bad mycotoxins. And let it ferment at least one month before cold storage and keep away from light. Thank you for all the great information.

I got mine with a 3/4 inch rubber plug and drilled a hole only 5/8 wide on the lid (Offset not the center) because the plug is tapered.You can pick them up at your local brew shop. I got the silicone gaskets on ebay (www.ebay.ca/itm/10-QRP-Reusable-Food-Grade-Silicone-SEALS-for-MASON-JARS-REGULAR-OR-WIDE-MOUTH-/121416348693). But I found that they did not work as well (to thin) as my rubber gaskets that I got from fido jars. The rubber gaskets from the fido jars a to big for the mason jars so I just cut them to size.

If you are using plastic to ferment Lactic acid bacteria type products, you are putting yourself and perhaps others at risk of cancer, I don't care how BPA free it is, just because it is BPA free does not mean it is free of all the other endocrine disrupting chemicals that could possibly be there.

Great video, but as you mentioned fermentation is v old and in those days and till now, in Iraq and the rest of the region we don't cover the jar tightly for more than 2 days otherwise you get a bad smell and taste because of dissolved CO2 and high content of enzymes,usually, we submerge the veg by putting some weight on them for 20-30 days, without a tight cover.
@TheseEyesGod
@TheseEyesGod 9 жыл бұрын
+saeed Thabit Thank you so much for sharing that. So it sounds like you cover them tightly, but only for 2 days, right? Then it sounds like you loosen the cover, but still leave it on. What sort of weight do you use & how? ~♥~

saeed Thabit you can buy pickle pebbles (made from glass) to keep your veggies under the brine. If you have small bits, you can use a large cabbage leaf on top to shove them under the brine. I still use a weight on top. 😊

NO MORE ITCHING NO MORE BURNING.. I HAVE NO SCARS OR NERVE DAMAGE FROM THE SINGLES RASH... the Dr wanted me to get the singles vaccine to prevent an outbreak again but i said no.... by the way a foot Dr (podiatrist) in 1975 told me that vitamin e kills all germs on contact... I never used anything else to heal cuts and burns... wonderful thing this vitamin e! Also did you know how vitamins got their names? First one discovered was vitamin A... second vitamin B... this vitamin C for which Linus Pauling recieved the Nobel Peace prize in the 30s...

Great video. By the way as aquarium owners know just leave the water out for a few hours or overnight and the chlorine gases off completely. Fish can breathe what was previously poison gaseous water. No filter required unless your water is bad in other ways.

Dear Dr John, I had a work accident, I was working in the locomotive field, and a locomotive door fell on me, and it took several minutes before my fellows arrived to the scene, and I was crushed between the train door and my life, and I was forcing so much that I destroyed my nerve functions in my shoulders. I was tought by the neuro-specialist that there was nothing to get better with my condition. The only things they would give me was cortisone shots and morphine, witch I took for the first 2 years. meanwhile, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and the reason for my internet search, I discovered you. I quit the diabetes medication and decided that my body was intelligently designed, so if I give it the proper food it requires then I would be ok. Believe it or not my nerves are healing allright now, and Im starting to train in the gym. But I can't walk for more than 10 minutes, and I am having erectyle disfunction. what could be done to bring a smile in my face again? Yes or yes! your saying, I cant take a no for an answer. I am supplementing myself with red vine and gilko biloba, and chromium + vannadium (for diabetes) and vitamins A, D3 and E. Im having a hard time with my legs and erectile dysfonction. Am I missing a point, or what can I do to get manly man and being able to walk without pain?

For erectyle distinction you can try damiana boiled leaves, burdock root and ginger. Do your research before taking any. Thanks

I made some fermented salsa and had to keep the salsa below the liquid line, so I cut a piece of plastic canvas the size of the outside diameter of the jar lid. When I put it on top of the salsa, I pushed it below the liquid and it was a perfect fit.

Milk Kefir has the most probiotic strains, water Kefir is a good starting point if you have lactose intolerance, then progress to milk. Coconut is a flavorful variation of water Kefirr. Some folk take both milk and water to get the widest spectrum of beneficial bacteria and yeasts.

John Bergman I love your videos and getting healthier thanks to you but I think you may have made a mistake saying sea salt will not raise blood pressure ? I did some research and hope I'm Wrong and you're right , I use Himalayan pink salt and sea salt thinking they are low or without sodium which raises blood pressure but the info I find says all salts have about the same sodium. 33:00

This is easy to listen to at 1.25 speed. Some thoughts on this. I have a science background, so I prefer to be more precise, which means I can reproduce consistent batches. I weigh the veggies, in grams, then add 2% of the salt by weight. (multiply weight of veggies by 0.02) The salt isn't just for flavor, it inhibits bad bacteria, but not the good bacteria. If you have high blood pressure that is sensitive to salt, sea salt will make your blood pressure go up. Sea salt is nothing more than salt with traces of other minerals. ... No magic involved in sea salt. You can burp your jars every day or two, and avoid the pressure build up. I agree with most of his presentation concerning the importance of good gut bacteria. Milk kefir is also a good way to get into fermentation.
