This is a quick reupload---sorry about that! We had an earlier version posted just an hour ago, but we noticed a place in the video that had the word NADH instead of NAD+. A typo that would really bother us if it caused any confusion! Fixed now :)

It's 12:30AM and I wanted to learn about fermentation for the sake of understanding kombucha-making. You just taught me the legitimate process on a cellular/molecular level in 30minutes of watching/re-watching. Incredible. I now understand aerobic vs anaerobic cellular respiration, the basic role of glycolysis in each, and how in anaerobic cellular respiration the fermentation process (which is tacked onto glycolysis to regenerate the process) is different based on whether it's alcoholic fermentation or lactic acid fermentation. I feel like a genius. Thank you for an incredible presentation!
@melinagonzalez5747 Жыл бұрын
This video is unbelievably useful. After reading endless books on the topic that would only make me feel more confused, in 8 minutes you provided the whole fundamental basis to understand these processes. THANK YOU

THAT I UNDERSTAND IS Fermentation, chemical process by which molecules such as glucose are broken down anaerobically. More broadly, fermentation is the foaming that occurs during the manufacture of wine and beer, a process at least 10,000 years old. The frothing results from the evolution of carbon dioxide gas, though this was not recognized until the 17th century. French chemist and microbiologist Louis Pasteur in the 19th century used the term fermentation in a narrow sense to describe the changes brought about by yeasts and other microorganisms growing in the absence of air (anaerobically); he also recognized that ethyl alcohol and carbon dioxide are not the only products of fermentation.

I’ve always felt like gaining electrons should mean it’s positive, but it’s more intuitive when you know electrons are negatively charged themselves and in the constituents of the atom the protons are positively charged. So you can think of it as the net charge. Also as far as I know they’re just names for polarity, but for any useful language system you obviously need consistency
