Small details: When Frieren killed Draht, she said "Ippiki" (one down) which is used for counting pests like rats or other small animals. Remember in episode 3 when Frieren killed Qual and he said "Frieren, my spell"? He wasn't meaning she killed with his own spell cuz she explained that his spell was super common nowadays, but the fact she modified his Zoltraak to be super effective against demons. The tittle of the show in Japanese is "Sousou no Frieren" which can be roughly translated to "Frieren at the funeral". A lot of ppl think it was because she outlives his friends but it has another meaning, which can be "Frieren who sends to the funeral" which is the tittle the Demonkin gave her after killed so many demons.

Oh, and I forgot. When Frieren said the Qual was so powerful that his spell backfired him, was because Qual, without intention, gave to humanity their strongest spell to fight his own kin.

Here a cool funfact: Since the anime just recalled the title of the show with episode 08, I will try to explain to people who may not be familiar with Japanese why it is such a big deal, just a little FYI if anyone's interested. The Japanese title for this show is "Sousou no Frieren" which is also the title of episode 08. As you can see there is a short description "Sousou no" in front of our protagonist's name. Sousou (葬送) is a word that is formed by combining 2 characters each with their own meaning, 葬 "to bury" and 送 "to send off". Usually, the word has a sad and grieving nuance, but in some contexts, it also means "to kill/to end". At first, most people assumed that the title is like that because Frieren outlives all her friends, so she "sees them off" one by one. But at this point in the story, the demon reveals that it is actually a title given to her by demons because she has "sent so many demons to their deaths". People were SHOOK when this double meaning was revealed in the manga, it was just so cool lol I saw that English subtitles translated it into "Frieren the slayer", while still badass, it just doesn't fully show how the author played with words in the title, and I just think it's a pity that some people will not be able to appreciate it due to stuff lost in translation. IMO experiencing the realization that the title was not as simple as I thought was one of the highlights when reading the manga. But translation is hard, I totally get that. I'm assuming a lot of people already know this, but just in case, I wanted to create this post, because I really love this show and I'm so happy that the anime is getting so much attention. The anime is doing such a good job, and I look forward to it every week. Cheers. www.reddit.com/r/Frieren/comments/17ifamo/double_meaning_of_the_title_sousou_no_frieren/?rdt=44310

Without being a linguistic expert, and knowing nothing about Japanese - but a big fan of double meanings, words plays, and anything involving linguistic finesse, I can definitely appreciate this fact, even if I missed out on it due to the language barrier. My best English translation that would convey a similar meaning and wordplay would be something like "Frieren the Grave" or "Grave Frieren," - and even that doesn't really seem like an accurate translation or have the same linguistic punch, but rather it's the closest I can think of to the original meaning and wordplay, in that "Grave" can mean both being melancholy AND sending someone to their grave.

Yeah, at first I thought that's another show about emotionally stunned MC finding her way yo connect with her emotions. And while it's not a bad thing at all and it partially true, I absolutely adore how emotive Frieren is. From small and kind smiles to absolutely goofy smirks, I love them all. It's also true for Fern now that I think of it, but she express her emotions in more subtle ways.

The next episode IS going to have an awesome fight, but possibly not the one you're expecting. You're going to love it. Also, that reaction you had when Fern's spell blasted through the window and then we saw her floating in the sky, all backlit by the full moon, was 100% the only correct reaction to that scene. I especially love the little shards of glass coming into view in slow motion just before we see the actual beam of the spell - they're so well animated, and it's the little touches like that that really put this show on a whole other level than anything else I've ever watched.

Just a note "Sousou no Frieren" doesn't really mean "Frieren the Slayer". It's much colder than that. Sousou means "funeral". So the title of the show is Frieren's Funeral which of course is referencing all the funerals she must attend for lost friends. But in the case of the demons, it more accurately translates to "Frieren the Funeral-bringer" or "Frieren the Undertaker". A "slayer" implies there's a battle or a fight. When you meet an undertaker, there is no fight, you're already dead, they just put you in the ground.

I've watched reactions of this shows more than 10 times now but only now I noticed how smart draht and frieren's fight was. Draht's wire magic really is one of the strongest so frieren opted to cut his hands instead. An amazing detail that none of the reactors/reviewers I've watched have noticed that too
@takonaegi29677 ай бұрын
I'm pretty sure they all noticed that detail. But it's true that not enough people comment on or discuss it. Probably because it happened so fast and there are other things to comment about. I'm more concerned about another thing, that is a bit of a SPOILER . . . This cutting spell looks rather familiar to another one wrom later in the show. At first I thought Frieren used compressed wind attack to cut Darht's arms, but after rewarching I think she might know that other spell or like a variant of it?

YEah it's bad ass how Flamme did make that little protection spell around the plant and it did grow to help protect people under it and then the town probably was built as they realized what it was. I really like this arc. The Graf isn't a stupid arrogant man. Which is refreshing. I think Fern knows the origins of the spell and how it was modified, because she finally started reading that history of magic book after they beat Qual.
@AndrewRedroad6 ай бұрын
The demon Qual's last words after being hit with Zoltraak were "Frieren... my spell..." For a long time I thought it was because Frieren killed him with his own spell, but no: it's because it WASN'T his spell. It was because she changed Zoltraak so much and he realized it.

A bit of detail... When Frieren kill Draht she said ipiki "i" means "one" and "piki" is a word they put after a number when japanese people are counting small animals like "rats" If she was counting people she would have said "hitori" which mean "one person" yet she counted that kill as one small animal which adds to the coldness of that scene
