I used to play all these n op 29, 31, 35 some in op 44 n 60. I love the music of Sor. I really regret letting them go n putting my guitar away. Only now 25 years later I've picked it back up. You play beautifully Patrik n I hope you never lose interest or life gets in the way of your studying like it did for me. I watch a lot of your videos n enjoy your playing n musicality. The RH technique goes unnoticed however with theses studies it's so demanding with stopping ringing notes esp basses. Wonderful technique Patrik, your pull offs are crisp n your overall sound is pleasant with nice clear separation in the voices.

Tenakoe for the wonderful performance and in an equally wonderful venue plus that superb period guitar! what a delight! Also thank you for the detailed information about the composer. A pleasant surprise to hear no. 10 - I never knew this came from Sor and would love to know how it became to be taken up by the British as a tune to acknowledge/celebrate their sovereign (s).

@@josephkowhai9820 Thanks a lot! Sor published this set of Etudes soon after his arrival to London in 1815, where he came from Paris and having left his home country Spain due to war and political circumstances. I think this no. 10, with God save the king -theme, is his homage to England which had treated him so favourably.

Wow!!!, the tone of that guitar, bassy deep round tone. You are a Virtuoso to be able to demonstrate Fernando Sor's beautiful Etudes as they are fun and exciting to play them as they are very technically demanding, I started 30 years ago on the 20 Sor Studies compiled by Andres Segovia with the famous recording of John Christopher Williams - the Australian British Grandmaster Virtuoso of the Classical Guitar. Bravo Maestro Patrik for a well done video with the didactic notes on Fernando Sor. Can You play a Classical Guitar solo on the Rolling Stones song called 'SATISFACTION'? .... hehehe

Outstanding playing as always, Patrik! I really like your explanation of why Sor's more difficult studies were written earlier and his "easier" ones later. It is much easier to write difficult music for the guitar, or to write easier music that is not at a high musical level. To write good music that is also playable by amateurs (like me) is very difficult. It makes sense! I know what I'll be listening to tonight as I go for my evening walk. 😀

Also, what the trajectory of Sor’s studies suggests (from Opp 6-29, one following the other, through Opp 31-35 to 60) is that there was a decline in the interest in the guitar around the middle of the nineteenth century.
@ericphillips70572 жыл бұрын
@@larsfrandsen2501 Good point, Lars. So, you are thinking that the decline in interest in the guitar meant that Sor needed to write studies that were more suited to beginners and intermediate guitarists?
@PatrikKleemola2 жыл бұрын
@@larsfrandsen2501 Yes, it might somehow reflect that too. Indeed Sor's follower, friend and colleague Napoleon Coste surely witnessed the decline of the guitar in Paris in the following decades after Sor's death in 1839.
@larsfrandsen25012 жыл бұрын
@@ericphillips7057 I think that might explain the fact that Sor’s studies got easier and easier for each opus. We witness a renewed interest in the guitar in the twentieth century.

Wow, what a treat to have the entire opus in one video 👏! I don't usually actively watch a half hour video, but this made for an engrossing listen over dinner. It was both a delight to watch and listen 😁. Besides the authentic sound quality of the Romantic guitar, I found your phrasing brought the music to life in an elegant way. I let all 6 of the ads run (cheaper than a concert ticket, ha ha) 💰. I too follow the style of Aguado in keeping my thumb trimmed, but short nails on the right hand. Were you using the Aquila Ambra 800 string set in this video?

It’s amazing that every piece in this work I’d like to learn . The ability to perform an entire opus is such a feat too . Do you think Sor intended/wanted his pupils to do that?? Also in your essay …. So Sor was a singer too ??
@PatrikKleemola2 жыл бұрын
I think it's a great work as a whole. I don't think in the early 19th century it was a habit to perform in public concerts large cycles like this one entirely. In the op. 6 there are many different technical and musical aspects that Sor presents, so perhaps the most talented and hard-working students aimed to study the whole set.

@@PatrikKleemola op 6 really is a magnificent set of pieces . As you wrote 8 of them got into the Segovia 20 , that says an awful lot

Thanks, Gary! Sor had just arrived to London from Paris when this work was published and enjoyed there wonderful success as a guitarist, composer and singer, even before the royal family. So perhaps this was his homage to England which greeted him so well.

You play nicely enough but your right hand is just awful in it's technical posture and position. Your teachers either left you to your own devices, something I (as a William's devotee) see often and deplore. Your sound would be bigger, stronger and more reliable than in its current position which is deplorable yet so common among the younger generation these days. I see it so often. Your right thumb should extend from an arched wristed hand with the knuckles parallel to the strings. You never used a mirror to practice your scales, did you?
@PatrikKleemola5 ай бұрын
Interesting that you took time and effort to write the above message, while not bringing anything to the table by your own example of playing. By the way, I'm approaching here 19th century guitar technique (particularly by Sor), on purpose.
@Skinny_Karlos5 ай бұрын
@@PatrikKleemola Then why have you left your nails on, might I ask or is that just too much 'Sor' or 19th century music, when nails weren't often used, at least not by Sor, for you 'to approach'?
@rjlchristie3 ай бұрын
@@Skinny_Karlos Urgh, a Williams devotee. My teacher described Williams as the antichrist of the guitar. Perhaps that was hyperbole on his part, but it is an apt example to illustrate that Williams' approach is not admired by all.
