One idea that i've never seen implemented in horse games, but that i'd love to see: Finding a proper home for horses you're selling. You know how you just kind of.. Dump horses into the shadow realm when you sell them? It would be cool if we could get a mechanic where, when we sell a horse, various NPCs come and give you a price offering, training ideas, pasture and stable conditions, etc. And you decide whether or not that NPC will be a good owner for your horse or not. This would make the bonding mechanic feel much more emotionally strong and deep, and also be used as a tool for roleplay and such.

I like this it looks so delightful. I very much like that they are planning on putting in a draft breed of sorts. I love the big drafts as much as i love the unrideable mini. I see the ranch of rivershine inspiration and i like it. I look forward to see it come to life and i hope it does especially with the curse that seems to be around horse games.

Me too! Good, solid story driven games, with a clear goal! Horse Club Adventures does scratch the itch a little, but not as well as I'd hoped. If you do want to get one of the games, get the second on, it's pretty decent for what it is!

Years ago, there was this german horse game series (I don't even know if they were ever translated..?) "Abenteuer auf dem Reiterhof" and the third game was one of my all time favorite horse games. The story was nice, training felt so chill and if I remember correctly, it even took some skill to be good. The later games went downhill afaik but up to the 4th I think, they were all really nice. Those games with modern influences, like horse personalities, more open maps and overall better animations and graphics would kind of be my dream to play again. Also Horse Life 2 with their hacking tracks, was so lovely and pretty! I kind of miss those dedicated hacking trails where you can just admire the landscape and ride for literally no goal other to enjoy the trail.

I love love the focus of courses having more player skill needed rather than following prompts to auto get 100%. Reminds me of 'Let's Ride! Silver Buckle Stables' which is a 2006 game but i feel still holds up so well in how the courses feel to master. Where you have to TRY to stick to the best patch/strats to get the gold without being tied to a set path automatically. (plus the turn animation/turning circle (rather than pivot in place while moving which many games tend to do) of making the tight turns feels soooo fun) I replayed Let's Ride! Silver Buckle Stables on pc recently and 100% (like in a week, its not huge and understand what im doing gamer now lol)

Silver Buckle, now there's a blast from the past! That was a great little game! :D I like Fernhoof Grove for a lot of reasons, but that also was a big sell for me. Courses that scale in difficulty is always nice, as having it be too easy makes it so boring. It brings to mind the older horse games, a lot of them were challenging, but no impossible, a good balance!

TBH I don't mind the state of the animation at all! It adds a brand of charm to the game. It's in a state that does not bother me to look at, and focusing on the game play at this point might be the way to go. I'll be watching this one! Thanks for the vid!

I really like there is going to be no breeding for the exact reasons the dev mentioned. yes, foals are cute, but there's so much more I just feel like too much emphasis is put on breeding in general.

I always hated games that did that with skins/ stats, "aww i like this horse, but oh... the stats a trash so i cant use it/ its a common coat and not super ultra rare" it makes u see only numbers/rarity and not the animal its self.

I can't stand it, because my favourite coats are often the 'common' coats. I like blacks, bays, chestnuts and white. All of them are often given shitty stats because they are common. Meaning, I HAVE to ride paints and spotty horses near the end of the game, because t hey're the only ones with good stats. And I hate it, cause I just want a chestnut!!!

I feel exactly the same! That's why in Fernhoof Grove you can train any horse to max stats, even drafts and ponies. If the player only likes drafts, they should still be able to finish the game with their draft army or even just the starter horse!

Hey, that's fair! Although I do put some stock on animations, it doesn't bug me as much as bad gameplay does. However, I understand that RPs place a lot of value on animations, as their stories are dependant on them. I hope they do improve over time!

I love that new horse games are emerging. Despite having faith in several of them, I still haven't seen any horse games with an innovative idea. I don't see any game that I can be interested in the story and see myself playing for a long time, they all always seem to be the same thing. This makes me sad, star stable has an excellent story made on an old engine, I wonder if there was a game with a similar story on a more powerful engine, how much potential it would have. All games are about taking care of your horses, competing, breeding and saving the ranch. How about you inherit a stud farm, open a riding school, and your younger brother is kidnapped because you are rich and you embark on an adventure to find your brother while managing the profits from the properties? I don't know, anything different would be cool...

Oh man, I know EXACTLY what you mean. Horse games are so stagnant in the exact same groove. Very little that's coming out is truly original. I quite liked Canter Crossing because it felt a LOT different than what you usually get. It's a bit more 'exploration' and 'world' focused. But other than that, it's: get an estate, breed a horse, train a horse, compete a horse, win a ribbon, go back to estate, breed a horse, train a horse, compete a horse, win a ribbon, go back to estate, rinse and repeat. Which is quite sad, really. I love your idea! It's original!

I feel the same way about horse games. One thing that has bothered me for all of these years in particular was the whole support with ETG. A lot of people were praising the game for its more equestrian focus and how it would "be SSO's competitor" and acting like there were no games equestrian focused out there. Sure, at the time they were far and few between; however, I've found that as time goes on, more and more people seem to be saying the same exact thing about new equestrian/horse focused games. People claim that "oh this is different because it is not about magic", but I keep thinking _is it really different?_. Sure, a game does not need magical or fantasy elements to be interesting. More people talk about wanting equestrian gameplay, but they seem to forget that a story can just as equally be as important in a game - especially in a game centered around horses. Funnily enough I was discussing this exact topic about the lack of story in equestrian/horse focused games. This is what has kept me glued to SSO for all of these years is because there IS nothing like it in terms of _having a storyline_. I love fantasy, so that is a plus; however, that is not really relevant to this topic, haha. My hope is that one day there would be something like SSO having a storyline, fantasy or not. If no one else will, I might just try my hand at it myself. Of course, to avoid ending up in a Rattle video about "The Most Disastrous Indie Horse Game Development" or something I'd probably just keep it to myself until I actually have something presentable, LOL. Kidding. The urge to do it is strong as I have a passion for art, storytelling, and game development...

I've been watching your videos since I got more into horse games and realized I wasn't subscribed, so now I am :D Edit; I wish more developers went into horse games, it's so sad that the best horse mmo is modded minecraft with plugins. If I could code, I would make one, but my best bet is to wait until someone else does it or I have the money to hire people to do it myself rather than make something with no skills whatsoever in coding and game development and break promises to a community that's already had so many broken.

I think for breeding in horse games is fun but way to easy and takes not as long as could lets say to battle that players lost interest in current having horses when is breeding system mare could just be pregnant a lot longer and still be rideable until last 6-4 month to birth like i love few browser games who mares pregnancy took all real month and is a lot more fun and exciting what kinder surprise u get xD

Oh yeah! The value does go up if it takes longer! But at the same time, I do understand why breeding has to be so quick. It's a dice roll, really, and if it takes too long and cost too much resources, if your dice roll is poor the disapointment is a lot more painful than if it was instant. But that is really a balancig act. I know people HATE ETGs five day breeding wait. The reason is simply because you CAN pay to make it go faster, which is a way to prey on impatience, but that is another conversation. I think, if you're going to have a long wait, you MUST ensure the pay off will be worth it, otherwise players could wait for hours in-game, and end up with a dud of a foal and have to go through the rigmarole all over again. Sorry, just went on a tangent there, but yeah breeding is never well thought -out, the instantaneous foals feel so bloody wierd XD A wait peroid will certainly make it more realistic!

I hate when games have blue-toned shadows and neon orange light :/ the graphics look great otherwise but it just looks like a 2014 IG filter. It's even worse with Islands & Trains that game is hideous it looks so fun but I just cant play it when it looks like that

everything sounds good but the story, I hope it not going to be like every other horse game, the place is on its last legs and you need to fix it bla bla bla, I find that story so old and boring so here hoping It won't fully feel like that and would feel like they put some thought into it and not just a Ctrl C and V I only really play horse games now for the horse like SSO .. what's the story again part from some girl with magic doing everyone else's dirty work and talking blue rat. the only horse game that I have found fun and the story fun is not even fully out lol, it is just a demo Tales of Rein Ravine. I regret doing Astride Kickstart that game looked really good with all the stuff they showed us and then what did we get NOTHING when the game came out it was more like being a wild horse sim, only have 28min logged in the game and half of that was just waiting for it to load, that just felt like a money grading game,
