If i bring my MTB or touring bike or beach cruiser or BMX etc , to the race , am i still "gravel riding " or do i have to ride a bike that can't decide whether it's a road bike or an MTB.

Legally you have to bring a carbon bike with drop bars, no suspension, single chainring & tubeless tires. Otherwise you're not riding gravel.
