I'm a huge fan of my moss poles in pon. I don't have to worry about over watering and the moss wicks water from the substrate really well. Win-win

Love this, need to try that because I really worry about the soil being too damp while I’m trying to keep the pole hydrated.

With regard to potting in Pon, semi hydro set up, I always use some chunky perlite in the Pon for a couple of reasons...it makes the mix a bit lighter and stretches the Pon a bit further for me now that I'm using the Lechuza brand. So far so good!

Fern those perlite chunks look like icebergs in those pots 😂 It makes me so happy you’re thinking about keeping the Tortum. I was genuinely sad when you said you would be getting rid of her… And if you’re feeling attachment to it, with as many plants as you take care of, I feel like that speaks volumes 💚 Maybe hold onto her until you’re SURE you’ll like the new one just as much? Also, I’m having visions of your Patriciae on your Rousseau wood stand hanging on your wall and it’s going to be epic 😍 Thank you for a week full of planty content. You spoil us!

If you ever want experiment more in the future, try out coco coir (the finely milled version) and pumice! A bunch of my plants especially my acid loving plants such as my alocasia and philodendron started to THRIVE because the coco doesn't get nearly as hydrophobic as moss does and it also stays/keeps moist longer and the pumice keeps it aerated. Love your vids!

@amberfrazier5755 ай бұрын
I think you could just snap the bottom of that off and fill it with dirt and just make sure that the water didn’t pool in that bottom section that you would normally fill with water. I bet the plant being in substrate up off the table without the bottom snapped on would help increase airflow even more and make a plant Extremely happy.

Sorry your Calathea - Warscewiczii died. A lot of calatheas are drama queens at the best of times. I have placed my Warscewiscii in leca and it lost all its leaves. All that is left is a small shoot waiting for springs warmer weather. I think areas where the temperature drops below 10 degrees, these plants may need to be placed in prop boxes for added humidity and warmth. Pingdom🤣🤣🤣 Love it!!!!

I'm new into semi-hydro (I have two hoyas in old jars in lechuza pon) Thanks for the video fern!!❤ I wonder, is it important to keep the water on the level where it touches the roots? Or should it be lower than the roots? I'm so lost, but i really like semi-hydro🫠
@wildfern5 ай бұрын
Usually lower than the roots (the pon I’ll wick it up to the roots!) but the plant will eventually grow down into the water, which is fine for the most part but you have to keep an eye out for rot :)
@hennesseyme91125 ай бұрын
Fern, where did you get that book pot? I just purchased some of those pots you used for the Albo and I so love them. I needed something deep for my Anthuriums and this was perfect. Only bad thing is when watering from the top it spills out. You have to also make sure media is in the legs so for two I used moss and one was just fern fiber and fluval.

Might be a dumb question but is the Molly’s succulent mix a lot like a Pon substrate?
@tunnelsunshine5 ай бұрын
You were saying 9:26 here how much you were missing the Mollys mix - may I ask why? I purchased it myself (and mind you I am brand new to the houseplant journey), and i felt it difficult to use with smaller pot ups. I know it’s supposed to be good and I love that it is soilless but, I just found it hard to manage. Am I missing something?? I bought a local chunky aroid soil based mix and found it easier to use - but I don’t like that it’s soil (gnats) I just would love your insight on this soil compared to my novice silly insight. Thank you!!! 🖤🖤
