Several years ago I used to race with an elderly gentleman who had more money than sense. No exaggeration, but he would bring full pit crew with him to the track along with an enclosed trailer containing a Chevy Cobalt Pro Mod car, a Ferrari of some type, a turbo Porsche 911 and occasionally a Ford GT. The one car of his that always stuck out to me was the Ferrari just because of the exhaust note. It was easily the best sounding car I've ever heard in my life, but it wasn't the fastest car at the track and certainly wouldn't hold a candle to a Tesla Plaid. With that being said, the cool factor of that red Ferrari with yellow brake calipers and an exhaust note that sounded like something from heaven was off the chart. If I ever find myself in a position with that type of disposable income which makes no good financial sense whatsoever to buy I would buy a new Ferrari in a heartbeat just for that exhaust note and the driving experience the car offers. Lol

So Andrew, would you say the semislicks are helping Blake? 60 foot of 1.45 is about as good as I’ve seen. I haven’t thought that DRs or even more aggressive tires would really help as I’ve hit plenty 1.50s with the stock tires and don’t notice any wheel spin at all, but maybe there is some time to gain there?
@TeslaPlaidChannel

Two things: 1) As the car gets lighter, it wants to spin more. At full weight, the Pirellis work great on a well-prepped track. I bet the Audi twin turbo's quattro system needs to be upgraded for the power. Typically in quattro's, if rear wheels spin all power is sent to front. Torque vectoring in rear causes power to go left and right. There are also clutch packs, I believe, in those diffs. I would prob try to upgrade those parts to make sure they can vector all that power effectively

@@dremusic210 The sf90 has a superior hp to weight ratio vs a plaid and still can't beat it. 😀 A stock plaid driven by Randy pobst at Laguna seca has his 3rd fastest time ever there, beating out many Ferraris he's driven. The plaid isn't just a straight line machine anymore. It's truly a world beater. 😎 Blake fuller will be driving his modified plaid at pikes peak this year. And pobst won his class in an unplugged performance plaid last year. Plus a modified mountain pass performance plaid actually won a track segment for the one lap of America just earlier this month. Under 150MPH is greatly preferred! NHRA rules only allow up to 150MPH (or down to 9.0 ET) for 2014- and later stock bodies vehicles. Over 150 MPH will require a heavy roll cage that will slow the car down.

@@TeslaPlaidChannel I personally don’t care about et. ET is a measure of how good the traction is, how good the driver is and how good the launch is. 1/4 mike trap speed is a real measure of how fast a car is. Comparing our best times on this day: 1.1 second difference with the F8 (10.4 to 9.3)
@awo1fman
@awo1fman 2 жыл бұрын
@@TeslaPlaidChannel Thanks, but I think you did the math in the video. What I meant was to see the difference live, in motion. Numbers are critical to the drivers, but to spectators they aren't the same as seeing the relative positions and speeds of the cars. And maybe I'm weird, but I'm being honest when I say that I would feel worse "winning" a race due to handicaps than losing a race with both parties giving it everything with no handicaps. Don't get me wrong, I can appreciate the races where you're "pedaling" because the other car isn't even in the same league. It's definitely a different situation when the difference is so great that it's mostly meaningless. There's racing, and there's entertainment. If a serious race is completely pointless, then entertainment is a great option. And that's challenging in its own right. It only takes a small miscalculation to turn toying into loss, or a close win into a boring gap. Anyway, just my opinion, and it's not a deal killer at all. In a way, I'm thinking out loud and trying to understand the other side. Maybe there are angles that haven't occurred to me? Like: Maybe it's fun to see if you can out of the blue set up a handicap that will *exactly* cancel the advantage of a slightly faster car? Because that is a challenging thing as well considering all the variables.

@@awo1fman A few months ago we faced that same challenge. How to setup an evenly matched race between two cars that were not evenly matched. (Bracket racing is one answer.) Funny thing. I've been following the Tesla Plaid Channel for a year or better. One thing that says it all is the race announcers don't call the Tesla a "golf cart". I hope they chock a little every time a Plaid crosses the line first. Just an observation...

Why go to all that trouble of gutting your Tesla by taking out the seats, arm wrests & door panels and making your car look like shit and be less usable all for no increase in acceleration (in fact, he's slower)? Why, so you can add a roll cage? Come on.
@TeslaPlaidChannel

1) You didn't watch his last pass near the end of the video (FASTER!) 2) For this car's intended purpose (Hill Climbs like Pikes Peak!) the weight reduction is critical for other reasons (handling and braking)
@Mr1Tanker
@Mr1Tanker 2 жыл бұрын
The car is set up for hill climbing. No rollbar...no race your car. Since he HAS to have the rollbar, removing non-essential interior pieces is the smart move. I doubt he needs rear seats, and a kickass stereo, during one of his races!

Dead wrong about that roll. This car does 60-130MPH in 4.5 seconds. There’s not a production car in the world under $1M that comes anywhere close. Not a Lambo. Not a 911 Turbo. No Vette or Hellcat. Nothing.
