It looks like a futuristic Group C race car from the 80's. I love the design. It may not look as elegant and curvaceous as some other Ferraris but it's not supposed to, because the F80 is all about ultimate performance, downforce and showcasing the F80's direct link with motorsport. It's a striking looking road legal race car with some design elements as a tribute to the previous Ferrari halo cars and the 499P. As for using the V6 engine, it's a well known fact that the V6 is much better for overall performance and it's also a two time Le Mans 24h winning engine. So there's absolutely nothing wrong with Ferrari putting that racetrack proven engine into its newest halo car. People can say whatever they want but everything Ferrari has done with creating the F80 actually makes perfect sense when you do some research and think rationally.

Agreed on all fronts. “Race-bred brutalism” is how Jack Rix described the F80, and I absolutely agree with that descriptor. Ferrari were after each and every nanosecond of performance with the car, and its design shows that mindset and goal quite clearly. It’s meant to absolutely bully the air around it while flattening whatever race track it finds itself on. The enormous rooster tail that was produced when the F80 was driven in anger on the wet track says enough: this is a vehicle that cares only about performance, numbers, downforce, and tech to make it go faster. This is Ferrari’s take on the McLaren Senna, but with about 5 pounds of steroids added to it. It’s not pretty (even though I quite like the design), but it is incredibly striking and looks great out and about, and especially on the move. And, it’s not really supposed to be traditionalist pretty, not when it puts down the amount of performance and downforce that it does. 2,316lbs of downforce is what this thing produces. The Jesko Attack produces 1,764lbs of downforce, just to put things into perspective. The F80 is Ferrari’s attack dog, its weapon of mass road course destruction in road legal form. Again, this is their Senna moment, but with significantly more tech, power, downforce, and aero at play.

On the design: people complained about the Daytona when it came out, of the Testarossa, of the 360 Modena, of the Enzo, of the 458 Italia... Personally I think the MGU-H is a brilliant invention and device for a car. Yes is takes a lot of money to do R&D but once perfected the car can have a mode where they keep 2 or 1 of the combustion chambers on to keep the turbos turbine spinning and recharging the bat3's when the cars in Full electrical mode so that it saves petrol and doesn't apply lots of strain or increasing the engine wear by having the whole engine running just to charge the bat3's. on performance cars yes its used to reduce turbo lag but in normal street cars just for recharging the bat3's. The thing the F80 that irritates me the most is the overuse of straight parallel lines, especially around the wheels and the side panels along the door and waist. With just a few tweaks it could turn into a truly jaw dropping design. I guess I’m saying that there’s the bones and muscle of a truly legendary car in the F80, but its skin and clothes need much better lines and shapes. They’re already giving up aero for looks and the stance and figure underneath are great, so to me it feels like they actually had to work super hard to screw the design as much as they did. It should have been an easy, tap-in, open net goal to make the bones and innards of the F80 look stunning, but they specifically ruined it to make it seem “futuristic” and “sci-fi”. I’d argue that it doesn’t look sci-fi or futuristic at all, unless they meant minimalist retro futuristic. If that’s the case, the carried it out poorly and it sucks. I don’t want my Ferarri to look like a spaceship. I want my Ferarri to BE a spaceship that Ferrari designed. How would Ferrari design a spaceship? That’s what I want to feel like if they want to be futuristic. The F80 is just a mishmash of pieces of a different designs that doesn’t go together at all.

I remember when the first rumours of the F60 came out, later called Enzo. Good times, when a new flagship Ferrari excited me. You can say what you want about other designs that were not immediately accepted, like the boxy F40, the Enzo or the LaFerrari but those cars have consistent and beautiful lines. If you think this disgrace of a car is beautiful, you don't understand that much about design. It has some beauty on it. The sides have beauty lines and the NACA intakes are interesting, and the engine cover inspired on the F50 GT, if I remember correctly, is a nice touch, even if is to fluid and tamed for such an angular car! The front is horrendous, the intakes themselves look like an afterthought. The black bar could work if they fully blacked out the lights and cleaned the front bumper with a more horizontal an simple design. The rear is not that bad but it would fit amazingly a rear stilled based on the Testarossa. Horizontal black lines covering some LEDs, with a nice light signature. It would match the front bar and blackout front lights and it would give it some retro cyberpunk vibe that the car wants to have but doesn't have enough confidence to pull it off! The rear wing is also ugly. It would be perfect with a wing like the F40 but instead of fixed, it would be retractable. And voilà, it would be the ultimate retro futuristic Ferrari.

In the area right below the LED stripes, there's an open space there, which I think would've used to install four round taillights like the old models. * Up front, that black area between the headlights. I would've preferred to be in the body color. The engine...V6, 3.0L, okay...not a V8, nor a V12. But hey. 900 hp...300hp/liter...that's a lot. And 9200 rpm? Even better. But I surely would've loved if they decreased the stroke a bit, dropped the displacement to...2.4, 2.5L...and revving higher, to 10,000 rpm or so. The F80 is just a contradiction personified as a car. They made a trade off in styling and sound for performance. Yet the T.50, Valkyrie and AMG One all look better, sound better and probably perform better. Well, it's a Ferrari made to chase numbers, I hear people say. Then don't make it road legal? It's compromised from the start that way. Just go the route of the RB17, Spierling or Valkyrie AMR Pro. Track only but incredible performance. This contradiction continues in the interior. 1+1 seater? Really? Either go full single seater race car or make it a regular two seater. Both would look better and more worthy of the Ferrari badge. Or go the F1, Speedtail and T.50 direction and have a 1+2 layout. Then the engine, well it's a good V6 and weight and performance and stuff. The GMA T.50 is much lighter and has an amazing V12, so does the Valkyrie, the RB17 has a V10 if I recall correctly, so does the Solus GT. The only other car in Ferraris line up with a V6 is the cheapest, least desirable, entry level 296 GTB. Every other model has a more exciting engine. And that's what Ferrari is all about, beauty, excitement, lifestyle and emotions. Not numbers. I know a fine gentleman who has a Portofino M, for that money he could have bought faster and more technically impressive cars. But he bought it because it's a stylish, emotional, V8 convertible from Maranello. It's that simple.

all these modern super/hypo cars are just weird. no longer beautiful or svelte n pleasant to look at. just over trimmed pancakes. and all the modern powerplants are just add this bit, add another bit, fiddle n add complexity, nothing really improving just different n bamboozling. you are aware that for all the el3ctric motors n turbo boost increases, that engine efficiency hasn't increased at all for decades. any reasonably modern motor from any car thru to this new Ferrari motor can generate the same amount of useful power from a given amount of fuel. if u have a motor can make 100hp n say that ferari motor makes 1000hp. give each motor 1 litre fuel, run them at Max power. the ferrai motor will run for 1 minute, the other one will run for 10 minutes.producing the same power overall. all motors use only 30 percent of the energy in the fuel. if they spent time n worked out how to use up that other 70 wasted when we run a motor wed be much better off that screwing more power out just by finding new ways to burn more fuel.

the v6 coming from the 296 gt3 and 499p surely were for customer who want to drive his 499p to the road but because 499p wasnt for the road legally so ferrari made this F80 for the customer to drive it down the road.

Anyways, I won’t care at all about the F80’s looks as long as Ferrari build a different model that has a design stunning enough to be worthy of being called the successor to the LaFerrari. I don’t think this design will grow on me like the F35’s design did. With the F80 it feels like it’s so gd close to being perfect, but they did just barely enough to make it a little ugly. It’s like I ordered a poster of my dream car Ferrari, but the poster doesn’t quite match what they showed online. Basically, they stole away my dream car.

The only reason why it's so controversial is cause of Ferrari having a v6 in it. If it where two of those Le mans v6 TT engines remodeled as a V12 TT version of it the complaints would be gone. The comments from Ferrari on the choice hasn't helped. It's a good looking car just that Ferrari choice of engine is what's making it controversial.

If only people were not numberist. And realised that Ferrari has used V6s for nearly a decade in the 80s for F1 (got their last constructors championship before Schumi with a V6) The fact that this engine won Le Mans twice should be more than enough. IDK why Ferrari dont say that instead of saying "inspired by a Motorsport legacy" or corprate BS like that. Say that its won the 24 hour of Le Mans twice, the 24 hour of Nurburgring, and the 24 hours of Daytona.
@hhistertheosis22 күн бұрын
No. The main reason is because it's an ugly car, the second reason is because it sounds like shit and the third reason is because it has a V6. If the first 2 weren't controversial, no one cared that much about the layout of the engine. I think most people understand the reasons behind it.

the thing is they have a costumer car with the lemans winning v6 from the 499p, the 499p modificata. It makes no sense to make a road car and focus this much on performance while compromising design, sound, emotion and desirability so much. If you want ferrari perfomance buy a 499p modificata or a XX program car, the people buy this 3mil f80 certainly can afford it. The ferrari halo car should be the best ferrari ROAD car. Emotion, design, sound, desirability are just as, if not more, important than performance, which is comprimised anyway becuase it is a road car. Plus they have a v12 in the purosangue, the sp3 and the 12cilindri. This is clearly emissions/greenwashing bs. 3million and you dont even get the best, far from it, dissapointment to many ferrari loyalists im sure.

@@hhistertheosis no, it's simply that Ferrari has NEVER in it's history used a V10 in it's road cars.the only F1 engine they ever used was the V12 in the F50. All I'm saying is that you're celebrating your 80th anniversary with this car why not do something you've NEVER DONE. While I'm not from 2002, I'm far older than that😅 I think using the F80's drivetrain would be great for an icona series. How many people do you think would disregard how ugly this looks to some people if this was like the CGT with a F1 derived V10 and a stick? Maybe there's a chance that they'll do exactly that for an icona series and not this if you could call it a "standard limited edition" model

@@Desert_Rogue_Tanker They are riding the wave of their WEC sucess, makes sense to drop that engine in. No one ever really cared about what ferrari think it is, that's why they're getting hated, they are loved because they used to build borderline deathtraps like the F40, F50, engineering wise, V10 doesn't really make sense in this day and age. Hybrid is good because it reuses spent energy. And the comment section seems to only care about the theatrical aspect, not the engineering (case in point, porsche 930(killed a lot of people), carreraGT(RIP paul), 458 and Laferrari, never heard comments about performance on both of those, only engine sounds. However, it would have been a different story had they made the F80 hybrid system as loud as the 499P onboard, hybrid has their own theatrical aspect that wasn't fully utilized.

the Lamborghini Temerario did just that, replacing a v10 with a ttv8 that revs to 10k, and people still complained. its the turbos that matter, more specifically modern turbos. The F40 is an exception due to how new and undeveloped turbos were, giving it more character.
