Ferrari GP Challenge is a bit on the simple side, but it's a fast and fun F1 racer with a fantastic soundtrack.

Neil Baldwin did a good job indeed. His music from James Bond Jr is pretty rad too.

i think you should try Michael Andretti's World GP but i have to warn you though it's controls 3 out of 4 race models in Michael Andretti's World GP are with manual transmission and the game is long like very long and due to limit of the game cartridge it's limited to 6 drivers but only 4 will race so qualifying sessions are different than you used to be with other F1 racing games oh and watch out for tyre wear in Michael Andretti's World GP

I played this game a couple of times 30 years ago when I was a kid and never forgot the soundtrack. Those notes were wandering inside my head today so I decided to search for NES F1 games untill I find this video. Game industry was something legit back in the day

I was a massive fan of Michael Andretti’s World GP for NES. I played that for hours back in the day.

This soundtrack sounds like it was made much more recently. Had i not been told otherwise, i'd assume this was a homebrew! I like 3D racing games, so that part's good too.

The ironic thing is the composer Neil Baldwin did the soundtrack very quickly, as he wasn't getting paid well for the game.

@@Doommaster1994 I wonder if his trick was to put samples of music in the sound files, not audio waves. It would explain why he did so well while apparently half-assing it.
@Doommaster1994
@Doommaster1994 Жыл бұрын
@@XannaInternet As far as I know, Baldwin never used samples. What he did was a common trick with European/English composers back in the day; he'd use the white noise channel in conjunction with the triangle wave channel to attain more realistic-sounding drums. Geoff/Tim Follin and Jeroen Tel also did the same. As far as I know, Tsukasa Masuko's the only Japanese composer for the NES to do it as well.

@@Doommaster1994 That would explain it, i thank you for that. The sample thing was what the Follin brothers did, thought they also used bleeps and bloops too.
@Doommaster1994

@@XannaInternet The Follin brothers didn't use samples either, at least, not on the NES. They also used the triangle wave + white noise combo.

probably just me, the white squares on the back of the tires look like blinking eyes. For a minute I even thought it was blinking in time to the music (which is also a pleasant surprise btw ty!)

I remember playing _Ferrari Grand Prix Challenge_ on the NES back in my youth. It was one of those NES games released during the console's twilight years (1991 thru 1994) before I upgraded to a Sega Genesis during Christmas Day 1992. Given the licensed brand name, I was actually expecting to be driving the legendary Ferrari Testarossa instead of a Formula 1 race car. Personally, I thought this game was alright; I didn't hate it, but I didn't truly like it, either. I did enjoy the OST, though, given how limited it was and how most old-school gamers know that the Ricoh 2A03 (the sound chip of the NES/Famicom) could do so much better. Great playthough.

I mean.. I would certainly hope so. F1 Race released in 1984 while this released 8 years lasted in '92. F1 race is a very impressive game for it's time.

I loved Pole Position as a kid. I remember going to Chuck E Cheese and dumping quarters into that, the Simpsons arcade and Turtles in Time. As far as I was concerned there were no other arcade games. This game reminds me alot of that and I have get a great feeling every time i see something like F1

American and European developers were known to compose on the NES with arpeggio effects.
@MarcBarkyMarta
@MarcBarkyMarta 3 ай бұрын
@@Loader2K1Europeans absolutely did a ton the arpeggiated square wave sounds. Americans, far less so. Our composers tended to stick to more straight use of the PSG channels. Sometimes they would use the triangle wave for harmonies instead of bass, though. Australian house Beam Software was known for that too.

Damn I lost this upload somewhat. Sorry System 3, this game is pretty meh, it feels like the turns at high speed don't even affect the car much. Ugly sprites, no care to adjust flickering - pieces of your car will just disappear. Didn't really deserve a top quality soundtrack. Bless Neil Baldwin.

With how badly Ferrari has been doing on f1 recently, this game feels like even a bigger far cry.😂
