Hey Ped from San Diego, That was a really fun weekend getaway and thanks for taking us along. I was thinking back to the time you and Mrs. Ped were driving the black BMW M240i and how much she loved driving that car(pups in the back). It took a few minutes for the Ferrari Roma magic to work its way into her heart, but then the more she drove it you could clearly see how much she loved the Italian experience! Incredible place to stay and food is amazing. They manage to get fresh ice in the bucket for your g and t in the time between you checking in and getting to your room!! Little thing but brilliant! Micheal Caines came out at dinner to say hello and thank us which as one of my culinary hero’s was fantastic!

I remain mystified at how some people are so impressed, mostly because of the badge on a steering wheel. An Aston Martin DB12 or a Bentley Continental GT would be as equally impressive to drive, whilst being in the same market as a Roma, but the Ferrari badge seems to carry a mystique which makes everyone think its something really special. The truth is there are plenty of far cheaper cars that could do everything, in the real everyday driving world, just as well if not in some areas better, but because they are not called Ferrari simply don't get the same adoration! I had a Maserati Ghibli with just the humble Diesel engine, but when I ordered it I knew in order to make it feel special I would need a fully loaded spec so it had the luxury that a Maserati is famed for. Compared to the previous Jaguar's I had owned over the preceeding twenty years it was certainly a 'bit' more fun to drive, and the electronically produced exhaust note (apparently modelled on their Ferrari derived V8!) sounded great, but in general driving it wasn't massively different to previous car's I've owned, yet my sister-in-law thought it was wonderful when she briefly drove it, and said she would tell all her friends she had driven a Maserati! Frankly she could have driven a BMW 5 series, or a Merc E Class, and they would have been superior, but a BMW or a Merc really doesn't have this perceived prestige... I changed the Ghibli twenty months ago to an EV in the shape of a Genesis Electrified G80. At a bit over 80k it comfortably undercuts its closest rival the Mercedes EQE by 10 grand, but its the best car I've owned. The reason being its a true luxury car that puts refinement as the top priority, and thanks to all the autonomous driving tech means that its the most relaxing car to drive I've owned, and continually gets confused for an Aston or Bentley thanks to its styling - the ex head of Bentley design is now in charge of styling at Genesis. The truth is a sports car has too many compromises and given the roads in the UK, how fast can you go before you get a ticket or get caught in traffic- whats the point!

Hello Peter! We are still in Cornwall in the mud and floods but back soon…and I’m saving up for the Roma….in different colours maybe but one of those will do very nicely!! Now your hotel….we MIGHT go bonkers and stay there soon but the Tasting Menu….ummm..HOW MUCH?????😱😱😱😱😱…..i think I’ll stay with the chips on the sea front option…I won’t mention the price but that was some snack!!!!!PHEW!! I’m glad Tracey enjoyed the weekend and it was perfect to use the Roma for that but I think she feels happier in the Defender. I think you need both cars…it’s only money!!!😄😄😄😄😄Richard.

⁠@@PetrolPedIf you had drank £150’s worth of jollup onto top of that dinner, you would either have passed out or exploded! At c£650 for that whole experience, it is not something you would do every day!….but it is important to do it sometimes…it stays in your memory when old age arrives…decades away for you but it creeps up behind and nibbles or bites when you are not looking. We have done…and still do…”mad things”….one was a memorable experience in Holland where we could not understand a word of the menu so the waiter asked if we had allergies etc then brought a Taster Dinner which was astonishing and most we had no clue what it was!! Then in Amien one night…20 different ice creams in one go…which was chilling!! Peter…carry on living this dream…don’t let it stop. 🙂🙂🙂🙂Richard

I think it may be better to rent a car like this as and when for special occasions rather than own one. Then again, it can clearly be driven every day, just like a 911 and a Bentley Continental GT. However, unlike a 911, this and the Bentley would seem to me better reserved for special occasions, and would therefore be much cheaper to rent as and when.

Vicki Butler Henderson has it going side ways on her channel but liked it. It’s entry level like the Portofino M. You should get a Porsche 992 (992.2 second generation hybridised are due) but one of the 992 Targa: Targa 4 > Targa 4S > Targa 4 GTS going up in power BHP and level of standard spec. The latest and most powerful Targa 4 GTS came out either this time last year but probably November- December 2021, just as things were opening up after the pandemic. You could test my view that it’s usable top down town the Targa roll bar making it stiffer and AWD on all 3 safer for your average driver usable in our relatively mild climate. It’s the River Exe estuary you were looking at. The English Channel was left where Exmouth is and the other opposite end is Exeter which is nice. I also like the Porsche Panamera Turbo S or Turbo S Hybrid which was the most powerful car they made around 700BHP until the new Cayenne Turbo Hybrid came out. The Porsche Targa 4 GTS also has the wheels with central locking and brakes and callipers from the 992 911 Turbo S. I always forget that it’s: 992 911 Targa 4 GTS as they are 911s.
