Just a correction of a common and popular error: BB does not stand for "Berlinetta Boxer". This designation was a misperception by the press at launch due to it having a flat engine, which in fact is the classic Colombo V12 at 180°, not the crankshaft assembly of a boxer. According to Leonardo Fioravanti, the model's designer, BB means "Berlinetta Bialbero" (Berlinetta Twin-cam), but he also added the anecdote that for Enzo Ferrari it was a tribute to the actress Brigitte Bardot. Greetings from Brazil.

As an Italian I am extremely proud of the genius of people like Enzo Ferrari , Ferruccio Lamborghini, Sergio Pininfarina , Nuccio Bertone , etc … We Italians have an innate sense of beauty and proportions and masterpieces like the BB, 250 GTO and the Lamborghini Miura are the perfect example . Thank God Ferrari decided not to sell to Ford ( that would have been the end of the brand !!) and chose instead to keep this national treasure in Italy , the only country in the world that deserves to be the home of Ferrari. 🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹

Wow, I'm really glad that KZbin suggested this video to me. I really like your presenting style, and found the information to be both very accurate, and interesting. This video took me back to the spring of 1984 when I sat in a red BB at a stereo and alarm installation shop in Rockville, Maryland. I'm tall at 6'3" and the transmission shifter was under my right knee. Not something I could drive, but I have always found the unique proportions to be incredibly special and sexy. I am also happy to see a father passing his passion down to his daughter, much the same as I am with my son. Continued success from your newest subscriber!

I like the 512 BB better than the Testarossa. This one just has a cleaner, more classic Ferrari look to it. I think it also sounded better than the Testarossa. The 512 did have a bad reputation for oil leaks but that's not uncommon in cars over 20 years old, even in Toyotas. Just check the oil and add when you need to.
@kavinskysmith40942 жыл бұрын
its the front bumper, I've seen a Testarossa with a 512M bumper on the front and it looks way better, look up Matte Black Ferrari Testarossa & GTR here on youtube and you'll see it, also the daytona was the last ferrari imported into the US, this is grey market and depending on the time it might be straight piped with only basic mufflers given its a pre 75 car to even be in the fools gold state while the testarossa was Ferrari's return to the US market outside of the ferrari 308 and was focused on giving Lamborghini Countach performance, without the ear blistering sound, crippling back pain and horrible fuel economy. and was modified accordingly where the cooling lines were rerouted and reworked, it was basically a remake of the ferrari daytona in midengined form and had that similar millaigned rep about it where its either love it or hate it, and I love it save for that damn front bumper that ruins the car.
@komradkolonel2 жыл бұрын
@@kavinskysmith4094 I think what ultimately was so polarizing about the Testarossa were those massive vertical slats that covered the intakes for the engine bay. Some Ferrari owners blasted the car for that and they also felt that it made too many compromises. I remember comments made that it was more of a Mercedes than a Ferrari. It lacked the more aggressive nature of the BB to them. The one Ferrari that I really love is the 288 GTO. Ferrari really got that one right even if some Ferrari fans think it's crude.
@kavinskysmith40942 жыл бұрын
@@komradkolonel well the main thing is the sound I think, which people have changed on their own, and is a popular mod to it, once they do that they love it as its not just the sound, the car revs to 6500 RPM, and its been quieted down abit, so you got less revs and a more quiet exhaust and the exhaust is really what tells your going fast hence why so many people go nuts with it, also it didnt help that on Miami vice, the show that made it famous they were kinda sound dubbing it at some points so you got a bit of a disapointment factor at times. while if you know what your getting into and you like it for what it is you love it, like one of the most current famous owner does Harry Metcalf who took his to the saharah of all things, and the funny thing was he came across a worked over single mirror car with a worked over throttle, and some performance mods, like a different gearing to it to make it more countach like and actually got rid of it and kept the stock one without ever doing a video on it sadly, as I would have liked to seen what a more countach like testarossa would have been like. also with the 288 the reason for its crudeness is its designed to be a group B rally car, which is why the diff on the back end is so exposed for easy changing, which spilled over into the 348 and the 355 when group B went away thanks to a bad crash and the drivers getting gradually more and more tied of the lax safety precautions regarding the crowds, that got shelved and the thing got reworked into a track machine to make the F40 which in of itself is a crude machine with fake carbon Kevalr on it I found, they literally made the thing of fiberglass and put on a fake weave of carbon kevlar on the top to make people think it was FULLY carbon Kevlar lol

BB does not stand for Berlinetta Boxer and the engine is not a boxer. BB, according to Mauro Forghieri (the engineer in charge and chief engineer of Ferrari at the time), stands for Berlinetta Bialbero - Bialbero meaning twin camshaft. The engine is a 180deg V12. A boxer has a different and specific firing order, which is different to this engine.

It is actually a 120 degree flat engine, and NOT a boxer (Like the Porsche 911s, Subaru.) The cylinders do not travel (compress) to the sides of the engine/heads, like the 911. A true boxer is 180 degree, and cylinder heads are out on the left/right side of the engine.

So pretty, and if it was considered a large car in period, by today's standards they are tiny. People are often rude about old Ferrari AC but although it says Borletti on the controls the key parts are from the York company in the US and these same systems were fitted to millions of cars back in the day. So spares are actually very easy to find and cheap, and it should be very effective if set up properly. The BBs had to be dry-sump because to keep the car a reasonable length the gearbox was mounted directly under the crank case. This meant the CofG was still quite high, hence the reputation for roll oversteer to add to the pendulum effect if you came off the power at the wrong moment. But drive it as a GT and you won't be disappointed.

2:58 Oh that's right, you live in cali, that damn place, and thanks to those people making it so the 25 year law doesnt apply there, your stuck with only pre 1975 cars to be able to bring into that state, hell I half wonder if that's why the air cooled porsches have gone nuts in price, as its the only thing the rich people can bring into that state and enjoy, like you guys really should have voted R in that last election, as he was taking them down and finally gonna get rid of that crap. as it just boggles the mind with their mindset, as if you have a post 1975 car, and want to put a modern motor in it that runs better, is cleaner has better emissions, you cant, like I saw with a guy who bought a 76 corvette he was trying to bring in that had a C4 motor in it, and he was forced to sell just because it wasnt the original motor. dumbest part is, GM used the same crap over and over again, that that fuel injection system is easily retrofittable to the original motor too, its just that's how he found it and thought it wouldnt be an issue when he went to retire there, and all because of some stupid line in the sand, like what a waste, like I'm surprised you rich people dont bind together and try and buy cali back from them piece by piece and actually fix the place good and proper, kinda not unlike howard hues did in the first place way back when actually.
@FerrarisOnline2 жыл бұрын
So thats not true. You can modify post 75 cars. You just have to go to a smog ref and if you emissions ate up to par or better you get a fancy new sticker and will pass smog. You can also happily bring in out of state non modified post 76 cars. Federal emissions will pass if that is how they were manufactured. :)

@@FerrarisOnline huh that kinda actually flies in contrary to what I heard from the worthless whips channel who was fixing up a 77 trans am, they said they wanted it stock, all the way through and wouldnt allow ANY changess, even though the stock parts suck, like he gave the impression that even a 1 to 1 replacement of the headers would fail it, and that he had to fix the original parts because of that and that it had to be as it was in 77' which if you know anything about the quality of those cars is like are you joking, they were TERRIBLE back then lol like the castings were terrible and nothing was balanced, blueprinted, or even polished hence why those things just flat out rattle themselves apart. like is their different laws or rules for each section of Cali going on here and their not speaking to each other?
@FerrarisOnline2 жыл бұрын
If he put headers on it that had a C.A.R.B # on it he would pass emissions just fine. They have RV cams with C.A.R.B #s.. i had an 85 c10, with hooker headers, comp rv cam, aftermarket air cleaner. As long as the aftermarket parts have the california ok, when they run the smog they throw the #s in the computer and all is well. And to answer your question no. California smog is california smog.
