Mod MINI Knowing Doug, that's probably not true. I mean i honestly can't think of a team of engineers and technicians none of which figured out what a nonsense it would be to lock the fuses into an electrically actuated box. Simply not credible.
@LynxStarAuto6 жыл бұрын
The David the glovebox is operated by vacuum not electricity. The engine supplies vacuum to a module that distributes vacuum to several things in this car like the HVAC, lights and door locks. Technically speaking the engine does not have to be running to open the glove, unless you deplete the reservoir, which then would require you to start the engine to replenish it. More than likely, the system has a leak (very common) and so some of these accessories do not work with the engine off. Also, fuses in the glove box is extremely common up until present day. On some cars you even have to disassemble the glove box to access the fuses. BMW X cars come to mind. No idea where Doug got that.

Those who recorded 188 mph took off the wiper and side mirror. Magnificent vehicle. Downside. As an engineer, I did not like the engine being on top the gearbox minimizing the CoG, but it worked. Gorgeous clean lines, awesome sound, instant throttle response with balance feel and handling, unsurpassed at the time.

Correction Doug, it is a flat 12 not a flat V12 as you referred to it, it is still a very good looking car. Bear in mind most supercars of this era were capable of hitting 60mph ( 100kph ) in 1st gear if you use the rpms, sounded GREAT going thru the tunnel!
@danquistberg74925 жыл бұрын
@@ArbitraryFilmings correction: your correction is incorrect. It IS a flat 12 and not a V12. While it is not a boxer engine, it does not mean that it is inherently a "V" configuration. Ferrari uses a crankshaft configuration of a V12 which places two connecting rods on each crank pin. This differs from the boxer configuration of one con-rod/crank pin set up. But the crankshaft configuration doesn't dictate the designation of the engine. The block does. There is no flat V12.

Gear ratio:Fixed by thinner, smaller diameter tires. Pedal position:/ Dogleg pattern:Adding temporary spacer plug thingy to keep you from taking off from intersection in reverse. Color Sceme:Perfect. 80's ushered in low-bit Atari influenced art. Few colors, few lines, and yes, rims match...Clean. The Door lever:Opens Spagettio cans and Beers Not functioning center cap knocker nut:Must go, but 80's flair, also. Heavy Clutch:Low pedal set mount. Too many crushed feet, so higher up and thinner they went, with longer levers, for that advantage. Shifter Location:Once out of 1st or Reverse, prolly ok. Shorter people will have the seat more forward the the box will be between calf and hammy. You are kneecapping dash to do that. Boxer:Not a Subie, but it can jab, block, uppercut, right cross, southpaw and haymaker, from left and right, while adding elbow at each rpm. Fuses:Sit in passenger seat and check them out, not lay lumbar on rocker panel and lower jamb, holding flashlight in mouth, and dropping new fuse in face as installing, cuz of a spazm. Windshield Wiper:Add a speed wingnut like on a "De France" bike, so it is only mounted when needed. Otherwise:Flawless and they ditched the side dimple, and wonder if it is fuel injected or carburated. 🙌

It's 1986 and I at a Sydney, Australia motor show. My friend and I accidentally yet pleasantly ended up talking to the owners of a Lamborghini County charity 5000 series. The other guy, a stunning midnight blue 1983 512 Berlinetta Boxer. My friend and I were stunned. The Countach owner was purchasing the Ferrari Boxer! WHY - he hated the Countach. He said it was excessively noisy, near impossible to park and could rarely be driven at night! NOTE - ALL the Lamborghini criticisms were true. The pop up headlights did blind the driver and you had to rely on the parking lights. LMAO. THE Ferrari Boxer which I was salivating over has according to its owner "fully bored out." I had no idea what that meant. My cousin who worked for a prestige European motor mechanics works. Very simply put, the Boxer was super charged by a Ferrari mechanic. In practical everyday driving terms, and it was 1986, the Boxer was fast and came alive at the 70 mph ( 110 kph). On paper the Lamborghini 5000 was faster than the Boxer and Testarossa. Complete BS as the Boxer could hold its own. Ferrari Boxer owners are discerning and mainly held onto them. As Doug says, the Boxer was not aimed at the North American Market. Little known fact - some frustrated Testarossa owners who rode out the Miami Vice craze that lasted 3 plus years wanted a faster car. Top Gear's Jeremy Clarkson still calls the Testarossa " a dog " and still points out its lack of speed. YOU could import a Boxer into the U.S. for about 90k including ALL CHARGES. BEST of all one got around the U. S. stringent government emissions legislation. Ferrari afficiando's, finally, had access to a car that could actually blow the Countach and is variants away. Lamborghini increased its engine litre capacity which caused major problems and had many an irate owner. Even in far away Australia my mechanic cousin told me that complaints about the Countach 5000 increased substantially from 1986 onwards. In contrast they only had one Boxer come in for servicing. My cousin a Porche doyen was blown away. Remember, he had driven at least a few Lamborghini's but no Ferrari's. The other young mechanics told him that the Countach 5000 was THE car. He told me a few months later that he too had become a Ferrari V12 fan. The Boxer blew him away after the 70 mph mark.

All Italian supercars are pieces of shit. I remember an auto journalist in the 80s describing looking at a ferrari dino next to an opel GT up in the air on lifts. The ferrari appeared to be built in a high school auto shop class or something to that effect. Even today, why is it owners put so few miles on them. Investment? Or is it because they would be in the shop every 100 miles?
@Ekphrasys4 жыл бұрын
batvette Hahaahahaah, are you joking right ? We created the Supercars ! Without Italy we all would still be driving carriages on 4 wheels .... I don't know if you are a dumbass , a moron, an idiot ... Mmmmm.... Let me think... Little advice: don't say that to everyone in the world that is fond of cars, be him American, British, Italian, German or Japanese for that matter ... 🤦♂️
@batvette4 жыл бұрын
@@Ekphrasys italy doesnt figure in significantly in the history of the automobile. Not like benz or ford. While they can take credit for invention of the supercar (miura) they were such low production that your claim about we would be driving 4 wheel carriages is sorta irrelevant. How many people owned a countach or bb512 in the 70s? The ferrari 308 had higher production but by 1984 corvette was its equal in all aspects and half the price and 25x production. Supercars all see a couple thousand miles a year. Investment or fear they will break? C8 will be a game changer. Since Americans equal italian cars with FIAT which are STILL junk there is a hell of a stigma to overcome.

@@Ekphrasys Ferrari and Lamborghini are both very nice automobile brands from Italy. But then, along comes Fiat and need I say more?
@Ekphrasys4 жыл бұрын
batvette excuse me? First I’m European and I never gave a shit about American cars. Period . I find them u-gly and until 30 years ago totally impractical and not drivable in Europe . Second: Fiat was is and will be one of the best car manufacturer in the world , established in 1899. Then we came with Alfa Romeo thanks to which the the word “race” became an issue around the world. Then again we had Lancia , Maserati, Isotta Fraschini, Bianchi, Iso Ferrari (born after Alfa Romeo) , Lamborghini, etc... We had tuning factories like Pininfarina, Abarth, Bertone, and dozens of others . Ask yourself why in the Grand Prix the “lingua franca “ was (and still is) Italian and not English or German (even though the former is superseding Italian). Maybe you have to study more : Miura? The first italian super car was a.... FIAT , built in 1924 , the “Mefistofele”. Then there were a couple of Alfas and then ...mmmm, have you heard the name “barchetta”? So let me understand : America had ford , we had Fiat. Germany had Benz , we had Isotta Fraschini and Lancia .... 🤦♂️

Great videos about all kinds of cars! Love it! One point I have to disagree with, though: the orange turn signals are not the only clues to tell the BB512 and the 308 apart. I think the two cars are very different. You can tell them apart a mile away. The 308 is much sleeker, narrower, it looks light and almost weaker, when compared to its bigger sister. The BB512 (as it was named in Europe) is bold and wide and square, it has a stance which screams power and wilderness. The 308 never gave that impression.
