I was driving a well heeled customer about 20 years ago. When I dropped him off late one night, he said he had something to show me. He opened the garage, and it was a tan colored 1962 corvette. 13k original miles. He paid $75k for it 8 months prior. Words cannot describe how gorgeous that car is in person.

In regards to the hardtop----back in the day, owners used to install a special hoist that was made for the hardtop removal and installation on such equipped cars----it was mounted to the ceiling of the garage directly over the car and in the right location to align with the car--worked well for a one person install !!! The 327ci engine is still around today, they changed the displacement to 5.3L, which is 327ci's!!! A friend of mine had a brand new one in 1962 (her father bought for her) great car and great person!!!!

Young lady you do a great job! A lot of mechanics were scared to death of the rochester fuel injection. I had a friend I refer to him as a genius machinist he could make that fuel injection hum. If it was maintained and adjusted properly it beat the performance of the same engine that was offered with either 2x4s or 1x4 depending on the model year. Also it offered fantastic fuel milage. The 327 was in my opinion the best small block offered. Also in those days the horsepower ratings were under rated.

327 in my 2003 Avalanche . I love how she runs and sounds. I will never give her up unless the tranny gives out. No indication it will so I will keep on adding improvements to the old structure.

Like your review. Having been out an about in 62,64,70. It's a car that if you get the chance to drive or ride along. Go for it. Glad you picked this C1 corvette. For younger folks you'll freak out on the brakes, the steering, and yes, the inside doorknob. The throttle response. By this I mean stock, not update to disk brakes or a 400+ engine. It's an experience that you'll be too freak, or you'll get a rush from old school performance. Oh, you mention RUST. It can be hidden between the body and chassis only seen when you do a body off. Or the bird cage can be rust central. So, yea rust is a big one when dropping 70 to 90 big ones. Having a C4 after a C5 is a step backward to most, but the fun in the driving experience in corvettes is that there's something for everyone C1 to C8. THANK YOU for sharing. Keep up the great work! I had a friend who had a 62. When he restored it he made it his own. He dropped a DZ302 with the dual 4s and a Pete Jackson gear drive. 3inch straight pipe exhaust (a factory option) 4:56 gears, 4 speed with a fat clutch - your leg got a work out driving this thing. Horsepower was north of 450 (according to him -I had no reason to doubt him.) Amazing car.

Great review! Beautiful Car. In 1974-ish, I was on my bike at a local store. There was a Vette there from this era. The double headlight models. It had the new car numbers on the wheels. I was looking at it and the owner came out. I asked about the numbers on the car and he said that it was the first day that the car was being driven.

I had to pass on one of these 1962 327 Corvette Roadsters when I was 17 in 1972 (it had the same removable shell top as this one above (but it was metal flake lime green with beautiful gold pinstripe flames and Crager mags) Jerry Altig wanted $2300.. and I only had $1700 (I remember being extremely disappointed) so I waited about 1.5 more years and bought a 55 Chevy with a 425hp 350 LT1 for $900 !!!

Your description of engines are all wrong for the first year of the 327 that came out in the 62 Vette. Power options were 250HP for the standard engine, 300 HP for the high performance engine, 340HP for the super high performance engine (same cam and compression rations as the FI motor) and the 360HP fuel injected motor.

Currently an 05 tahoe. It's a good reliable tank... it is getting tired, though. May upgrade to the audi rsq8.

These analogies aren't really accurate. Torque is a measure of force. Horsepower is that force at a rate. In either the punch or the wall analogy, torque alone doesn't give any way to know how much a punch will hurt or how far a wall will be moved because it doesn't have a known rate.

My dream car was 1969 427 tri power 4 speed but I own a 2016 Z06 manual transmission out performs the C3s but isn't as pretty as the C3. As far as torque goes my 6.7 powerstroke has 1050 of torque compared to my Z06

The duel head light C1's are favorite looking Corvette but they are legit front engine cars. They drive like a U-haul and even with a modern chassis it's not going handles great. The other down side is the engine, the 61 and earlier have gutless 283 or smaller engines. IDC what Chevy test mules posted these car will not get out of their own way, no torque until the 327 and only with the solid lifter engines. Despite the Beach boys songs it was until the big block in '65 that Corvettes became quick.
