That's super cool! I have similar plans with a tube from their room to an outdoor playhouse. Love the water! Followed

Amazing!! Can you share with us what kinds of plants you used? It’s been so hard to find a list of ferret-safe plants!
@chrisscottYT2 жыл бұрын
A majority of the vegetation in there is just grass and some baby oak trees that were already growing there when I built the enclosure. The higher plants on the ceiling are artificial.

Wow, looks like so much fun!!! If they stash food or go to the bathroom in the tubes, how do you clean them??
@chrisscottYT3 жыл бұрын
They never relieve themselves in the tubes and I usually don't feed them in the outdoor enclosure. They only go in the outdoor enclosure when the weather is appropriate as a means of exercise, fresh air, etc. They live indoors full time and will stash food in the tubes in the house so I have to maintain them by giving them a good soap and hot water rinse from time to time, the tubes I have are durable and can be washed.

Do you give your ferrets living mice for them to hunt? Do your ferrets swim?
@chrisscottYT3 жыл бұрын
My ferrets are only on whole prey items that were purchased frozen. It can be inhumane to give them a live prey item in a controlled environment because there is absolutely no fair chance for the prey, also not all prey is willing to accept death and will fight back so you are also potentially putting your ferrets at risk of injury. This can be unlikely with small prey items but it does happen. As far as swimming goes, they don't mind water too much but not fans of swimming from what I observed.

Hey Chris. Can ferrets live outside all year long in Ireland ?
@chrisscottYT3 жыл бұрын
There are many variables to consider if you're thinking about having strictly outdoor ferrets. Their enclosure would definitely need to be secure from the elements because they are sensitive to heat and extreme temperatures in general. Another potential issue is coming in contact with other wild animals. Where I'm from, there are many rabies vector species and warm blooded animals that can transfer distemper and other diseases so having a structurally sound enclosure (more so than mine) to keep them in and other animals out is imperative. There are people that work their ferrets and keep them out year round (very common in the UK from what I observe) but they have the proper living requirements in place for them to thrive.

@@chrisscottYT They are no warm blooded creatures in Ireland. And the only predators would be foxes. But they rarely come around because my neighbor scares them away with guns because he owns sheep. I would have a fully wired big cage with wire and stone slabs on the floor with soil over it. And a chicken coop on the inside for a shelter. And plenty of pipes for entertainment. Would that work or is it the proper login requirements. Also is Ireland’s climate ok for all year long ?
@chrisscottYT3 жыл бұрын
@@finndrennan541 I'm not too familiar with the climate in Ireland however I would be cautious of extreme temperature changes. Temperatures between 55 degrees fahrenheit and 75 degrees are ideal. You should install solid walls where a draft/wind can not enter. Having a solid structure with limited exposed openings will help reduce cold temperatures but in the heat of course it would be more beneficial to have more openings to keep temperature reduced so make windows or door mechanism that you can open and close on demand to cater to the climate. Also want to avoid any precipitation from entering. You can either make a concrete foundation or stone with an underlayment with substrate over it is just fine in my opinion as long as they cant escape or wild animals can't get in. One warm blooded mammal I would be concerned of that can fit in small spaces is a stout. I don't know if they are in your area specifically but I believe you guys do have them in parts of Ireland.
@finndrennan5413 жыл бұрын
@@chrisscottYT The climate is basically the same as the UK. There are no stouts in my area I don’t think. Also would a chicken coop be enough for the shelter if the rest on the enclosure was a wooden frame meshed up ?
@chrisscottYT3 жыл бұрын
@@finndrennan541 Since there is all different styles of chicken coops it's hard to say without a visual, however as long as all the requirements are put in place for protection, enrichment, space to roam, etc. it should be sufficient.
