6th or 7th grade for me. I had my 5th grader watch it last summer (2021), after much protest she sat reluctantly as the move started, 5 minutes in was laughing. 10 minutes later was asking if there were any other “old timey movies that were any good like this one, you know from way back in the ‘70’s & ‘80’s…” so she spent the week watching Star Wars original 3 (sadly the remastered dvd version), princess bride, pretty in pink, breakfast club, weird science, some kind of wonderful, etc… oh I made her watch Jaws, Goonies, Say anything and Trading Places. Now she quotes them with me, and is super excited to watch more. Especially the “corny ones” with Chevy Chase and Dan Ackroyd and Eddie Murphy. In need to find a copy of “spy’s like us” and Beverly Hills Cop.

Ferris's overall philosophy helped me along of not stressing over life. In Jr. High, I rode the school bus 25 miles to school in a country town. Once I arrived, I decided that I didn't want to be there. I walked off campus before the first bell. I ducked out in a nearby cemetery for an hour. Then walked into town where I spent the day. When school let out, I simply walked casually back on campus and got on the bus which rode me 25 miles back home. All just to see if I could do it.

In my senior year on a Monday morning myself and four others piled into my car and headed to Washington DC to a bar called the Golden Bull, back then the drinking age in DC was 18…..after a few hours of eating and drinking we headed home to Maryland….just as we got close to the Capitol Beltway one of the guys said let me out, I’m going to hitchhike to Florida to meet up with another student that ran away two weeks prior….I pulled over, and the craziness began, as one got out the others we’re debating to go too….I finally said, “how much money do we all have”….between the five of us we had close to 300.00 dollars I ,said “the hell with it, let’s drive “…and our adventure began….now I cannot get into all of the specifics as it’ll we could still be arrested 50 years later🤣 ……needless to say we had a ball and we’re gone for a week……we did get pulled over in southern Georgia and were advised that my father had issued an APB on us and we were promptly turned around and escorted out of the state…..every state gave us a State Police escort to make sure we went home…..the Maryland State Police thought the whole thing was hilarious, but made sure we arrived safely……the following week was kinda funny too…..the school principal was a great guy and just shook his head but did say I’m glad you guys are graduating…..when I went up to get my diploma it wasn’t in there, but there was a note that said “ you owe the library $13.45 “…..I had to pay it to get my diploma…..it’s 50 years later and a few of the Florida bunch have sadly passed away, but the rest of us that are left still laugh about our week of hooking school……we were mavericks and heroes.

I had a similar experience in high school in 1988. My buddy said he had tickets to opening day to the Detroit Tigers so we skipped and I drove to Detroit from Lansing. We arrived we got parking paid $5 went to the stadium and he said he lied and we need to buy scalp ticket to get in. So we pooled our money we had left and he went to buy tickets from a scalper who I said looked like a homeless person and don't do it. He did it anyway and the guy took off with our money, I chased him 2 blocks till he ran down an ally in a burned out part of Detroit. So we went back to the car and got our money back for parking and hit the road. We got some food at a White Castle and drove home. We got back for 6th hour class and the vice principle was in the parking lot and asked me for my name for disciplinary action for being out of class. I gave him a name of a student that dropped out the year before. The next day I got called to the office for skipping the office lady asked what was my story this time? I said if I tell you the truth this time would you let me go she laughed and said sure you lie every time. So I told her the story of the Tigers opening day and she did not believe me. I went out to my car and got the bag from White Castle gave her the sales receipt from the day before and she let me go!!!! The moral of the story is tell the truth and don't lie.

I graduated high school just before, literally days before this movie came out. But earlier that year, mid spring, one day, my parents were away, decided to skip school and take Dad’s Corvette that I rarely got to drive out for a spin, a long one, called my girl that morning, told her I was going to pick her up from her house, we drove into the city, went to the park, somewhat similar to Ferris, but didn’t have to fake illness, didn’t have a principal chasing us, we ate lunch, not at a fancy restaurant, but at Wendy’s. After lunch we went to my place and did the bf/gf thing. Lots of fun, then I drove her back to her place, not in Dad’s car. The next school day, I told the school that something personal had come up, not a lie and they didn’t question me on it. The best part about that year was what I did on the last day, those who were around back then will remember audio cassette tapes, the day before I was at the office, I was allowed to be there because I was a part of students council, I replaced the anthem tape that was played every morning with a similar cassette with Alice Cooper’s School’s Out, the next morning everybody stood up for the anthem expecting to hear it instead it was Alice Cooper. It was hilarious. I didn’t hear anything from anyone. The following winter break, I was home from school, attended a hockey game that the school VP was there, I was out in the intermission having a smoke when came across the VP, asked him about the incident and told him it was me, he said that they somehow suspected that because they knew ‘ underneath that nice young man exterior, there was a mischievous side ‘, we both laughed, that was it.

I can't believe you didn't mention Small Wonder. It's the first thing I ever saw Edie McClurg in (didn't see Bueller til later), and will always remember her as Mrs Brindle.

I thought a couple of the characters and people you brought in with the cast have also passed away...I believe the secretary as well as Mr. Rooney himself may have possibly passed away...I might be wrong...but...

The Mandela Effect movie: my friends and I talked about this movie at school in the early 80’s, but then some time in the last 5 years its release date was moved forward in time to 1986.

Met Jeffrey Jones at the LA Auto show in 2000. I was looking at Porsche's exhibits. We bumped into one another in one of the hall ways. First thought was "Mr. Rooney?"

Saw the movie when it first came out. By then my high school days were over. However, when in HS i did as I pleased. Came and went as I pleased and was expelled several times. Seems whenever I had a "day off" I would run into my mother at the mall. That meant serious business; I had to carry all of her packages home. You'd be very surprised where I am now. Tom

Dustin Hoffman was 30 when he got the role of "Benjamin" in The Graduate, portraying a college student. Gotta have that young face to get it , no doubt.
