Great video and information for everyone. I have found that the cost of a fero rod is not indicitive of the quality. Learning to use one is probably the most important, and your new Fero Fire will make it easier to get a fire going.

Remember a few years ago when you could bid for Chinese stuff? I got a ferro rod the same size as yours for $0.78 (with free shipping), I think it is the last one I'll ever need. It came without a lanyard hole, I drilled one at slow speed using my drill press, it was fun, like the 4th of July - sparks everywhere even at 640 rpm. The mark up American companies charge for Chinese products is obscene.

Cheetos crushed, old potato chips, dryer lint sprayed with cheap ultra hold hair spray two coats with drying time between each, stuffing out of sanitary napkins, bandages... LOTTA stuff works😂 I have been known to shove a 1 quart sports drink bottle that's clean and dry full of good tinder and some fat wood splinters and screw the lid on. No water gets in and the bottle doesn't weigh much more than empty. Cut the bottle open, decide if you need the fat wood or not, POOF. That's enough hopefully to get it going plus a platform AND the plastic burns if you're really in a fix!😂

Ferro Fire is the brand

I cannot imagine how they drill those holes in deep rods. I tried it once and the drill bit instantly became a high speed striker, melted my drill bit and started a small fire in my shop. Just a guess but they either use a lot of oil or the hole is part of the press powder form.

@@ochocobushcraft1742 a rolling stone gathers no moss. I assume you use the one you carry and the ones in your packs are all still black. Great plan actually. Glad you had success with this Ferro rod, I got some FERROFIRE Zippo size flints off Amazon and they were atrocities. Even in a New Zippo insert 4 out of the 100 ordered produced no spark. Tried the same 4 flints in ANOTHER new insert ...no spark. When it comes to ferrocerium, A sharp hard striker is a must. I use a square lathe mill bit blank epoxied into a hunk of wood . 4 edges M2 tool steel. Save my knife spines for emergency, OR use a Corona shears sharpener, carbide.
@ochocobushcraft17429 ай бұрын
Sorry to hear that you had trouble with their flints. So far their ferro rods have worked fantastic.
@tikkidaddy9 ай бұрын
Well TBH I'm just letting others know that they're better off just buying ZIPPO brand flints in bulk if possible. The things are tiny, and I mean how many of the little buggers do they actually check when you think about it. 😂 Amazon refunded the whole order, so there's that. But its probably easier to QC a big old 1x6. Reason I mention it is that I use the little EXOTAC sparker that's about $30, takes ZIPPO flints, and the EXOTAC TitanLight alot more than a 1x6. That little sparker is worlds more durable than a dead Bic, and the TitanLight doesn't chug ZIPPO FLUID like a camel at a watering hole😂
