Ferry Ride from HELL ! Adventure riding in Oman and why I don't have children Episode 12

Day 6 EPISODE 12 of my Oman solo adventure !!
I managed to make it to the Ferry with enough time to hang out at the dock and grab some food. The road was super easy to get there and very straight. at one point I saw piles of salt at the side of the road by the ocean that locals were collecting which was cool. The ferry took just over an hour. they also have a "slow ferry" which I believe it takes about 2.5 hours and is more "local" I would have opted to that had I had more time.
I finally made it to Masirah island, I only wish I had more time here !! I was blown away by the serene beauty and the culture. I made it to a guest house that night where I got to set my tent up for free by the water and have access to their restaurant and facilities. When I picked up my Super Tenere I took a ferry across Lake Michigan (coal fired steam ship called S.S. Badger) it was an interesting ride, about four hours long but plenty to do on the ship. I find that if you go into a place already thinking the people will be terrible then that is how you will see them and you won't have a good experience. If you go with an open mind and actually get to know them, you will have a much better experience where ever you are.

I for one love the cats and dogs bits....good to hear Winston is well. I was afraid to mention his absence from your videos thinking he may be now too old for riding or something. As for keys I use a dog choker chain with a clip each end to secure my keys to my belt loop so I can't drop them etc. Unclipped when riding but keeps them easy to find in my clothes. I also clip room keys to the same chain. Makes locks and keys less hastle.

Hiya. Really enjoy your videos. I did a +5000km trip with my dad this summer through europe, but seeing these definetely entice me to do something more "adventury" at some point. So, goal achived on your part I guess :) Regarding the noise! I can really recommend you look into getting a pair of custom-cast earplugs. I thought it was horseshit myself, but you'lll be suprised at how much more relaxed your head is, after a long ride using them. You know how you head can continue to "buzz" for a while, especially if you went fast? Gone for me! And they're great for relaxing and sleeping in noisy places if need be. (Like a crowded ferry or the neighbour tent partying hard all night. Ask me how I know.. )

each person has their own preference,... as you can see, I never stick to the same bike, so I'm not good to answer that question ;) try out a few and see what feels comfortable,. it all depends where you want to take it and what you want to do with it. doesn't really matter what you get so long as it will get to where you're going ! Thanks, I'm looking at the Honda African Twin, Kawasaki Versys (a friend just came back from a US ride of 7k miles on one) and Kawi KLR. What bikes have proven to be the most reliable for you? I"m used to riding bikes flatfooted and these bikes seem awfully high. BTW, if you're in this area, I've got a Sabre 1100, an Aero 1100 and a Virago 750 you're welcome to ride while here. Although, after the places you've been in the last several months, riding in traffic is probably the last thing you want.

Thinking about taking my 10 year old daughter camping on the bike next school holidays. I havt. Taken her camp him years, never on the bik, but she asked to go camping again. She also started to get on the back of my.bike for the first time 3 months ago (she can ride her own bikes since she was 4 but they have to be 8 years old and fit in australia now) now got a think of packing for 2 and a pillion. I've got 2 man tent and a 1 man tent. 2 sleeping Matt's. Enough sleeping bags. And I'll do it near her house in port Macquarie so won't have to far to travel on the bike. I'm a little excited tbh but got a work out logistics of carrying everything. Easy for 1 person with the bike I have but 2 and a 10 year old girl at that. She should have her own tent I guess

It would probably have been a lot cheaper as well.I ride with ear plugs to reduce wind noise, but they also become useful in other situations, sleeping in noisy paces or in your case, riding noisy ferries! Another great vid and I realised I missed out by not heading further south in Oman when I travelled there, but I was coming from Dubai, so had to turn around and head back due to time constraints.
