I use a Venturi Siphon to water my raised beds. This allows me to mix in my liquid fertiliser with the tap water coming out of my hose pipe. This is a follow up video from the previous one I did, and I go into a bit more detail as well as answer questions that were raised in the comments from the other video!
By the way, when using fertilisers like Seaweed fertiliser, you really don't need to be too accurate, rough measurements work out just fine!
You can buy the siphon kit on Amazon: geni.us/venturifert
Or ebay in the UK: goo.gl/x6Ab4Z
Or internationally you can get it off Banggood (a little cheaper too, but takes a couple of weeks to get to you): goo.gl/9RBReb
Don't forget that you need the connectors for the ends of the siphon to connect to your tap system too: geni.us/hozelocktapconnect

The main problem with this setup is the back pressure created by the hose-end sprinkler causes the venturi siphon to stop working. Water going in the wrong direction is not the problem. It can't go backward due to the spring and ball backflow device inside the right angle of the venturi. These venturi siphon devices work fine when there is no (or negligible) backpressure on the end of the hose. This means an impact sprinkler or similar won't work....in my experience.

In my area where i live we irrigate 100s of acres of ground crops, many irrigate their vinyards with drip. There are sozes of these up to 4" abailable, so sizing is important, we have a gauge on both inlet and outlet and need a pressure drop on outlet to syphon, i use these st my home orchard, veggie garden and ornamentals, i use the correct sizing for flow, for me i use the water meter to know flow/sizing.

The venturi has a check valve. There is probably a ball under the threaded-on, small hose barb. Without the check valve, it would in-fact flow backwards due to the pressure.

Hi Nicholas. I thought it did as well, but I had someone message me on s previous video I did on this saying that it was pushing water into the fertiliser resovoir. It’s too much back pressure from the drip system. I had the same problem. It depends on your water pressure and everyone has different water pressure. With mine, I had to set up two sprinklers connected to each other to make the outflow high enough to get the suction to work, otherwise it did run back into the fertilizer tank through the Venturi. My water pressure was just too high...
@JaakJacobus
@JaakJacobus 2 жыл бұрын
@ChilliChump -Why doesn't water get out the suction pipe? Standard under the venturi in the connection cap of the suction pipe there will be a one-way-valve (just a piece of plastic with a spring). -No suction 2 possibilities: 1. as you said, reverse mounted venturi 2. oversized venturi: home use pipes are 1/2" and a 3/4 " or 1" venturi will get an insufficient pressure drop to create suction. Bigger is not better in this case.

It’s a question if I use a piece of glue and snipped off the tip of the hose they gave me do you think that’s probably where this ball was because that would probably explain why it’s blowing water through the sides, and instead of pulling it up through the siphon and that’s the question I’m having trouble with. I have it on the flow system as well but it was working at one point I know it’s not so I’m trying to figure out the pressure thing or the gravity thing if it’s too high up or too low down or if the pressure is wrong at one end or the other or if I just have to buy another siphon that has the ball in it.

Hi there. I have 100 square metres of green house. It says I must use 50ml solution diluted in 5l of water. Clearly 5l is not enough to water the plants. Should I irrigate the plants with water at first then at the end apply the solution? If i put the house in a bucket with 50ml of solution do I need to add water into it to make it flow better? Wont it become super diluted if its also adding more water to the solution when irrigating?

Thank you for this helpful video. This may be a stupid question, but if the total input is 360 ml for 5 liters of total flow and you needed to add 100 ml of fertilizer per 5 liters, then wouldn't you add the 100 ml to 260 ml of water to give a total of 360 ml rather than add 100 ml to 360 ml which would give you 460 ml and you'd have 100 ml left after 5 liters total flow?

Thank you for the video. It’s amazing! I have been trying the Venturi siphon for home gardening. I bought the siphon exact the same as the Amazon link in your video description. My only success is with a open-ended pipe. Once I connect any sprayer or sprinkler, the water flow backward to the mixer container. I didn’t see any check ball or spring when I examine its barb fitting to siphon pipe. Could someone confirm there is indeed a check ball or something in that? One last thing, this video is the only *home gardening* one that I saw in KZbin that has huge success with Venturi siphon. All others home gardening could only get it working with open ended pipe. Once a sprayer is attached, it flow backward. It’s also amazing that in the video the water won’t run backward even when the sprinkler is shut off. I never see that in other video. I wonder if it is because of using hozelock system?

You can't do that though cause as others have said there's a built in check valve in the barbed fitting. If there was absolutely no flow restriction it might work (i.e. you have no hose pipe attached to the outlet) otherwise you'll get back fed water.

An thing I add to the hose restricts the water too much and the syphon will not work. I see on amazon, there are Venturi siphons like yours in different diameters. Dear ChilliChump, I need your kind opinion. This morning I ran the identical venturi siphon like yours on my drip irrigation line for my vegetable garden. Unfortunately it doesn't work! While it works very well with sprinkler irrigation like yours or with free hose, unfortunately with drip irrigation it starts well but then immediately freezes. I made several experiments by rotating the venturi siphon in all positions on 360 degrees and also removing the tap. Unfortunately nothing to do ... If I disconnect the pipe that brings the water to the drips, the venturi siphon works very well and is truly exceptional. The fertilizer liquid I put in is clean because it is filtered. This is water in which I dissolved my earthworm compost for 48 hours. Is the cause by any chance the back pressure generated by the small holes in the driplines? What can I do to solve this problem? If there's a filter on the feed tube you couldn't use your own made feed because it might have too many particles to block it. If it is sucking up too much feed could you add a pin hole above the feed bottle so it would suck in some air as well as some feed. You'd have to experiment again. I'm just thinking of a more simpler way for countries that only have Chinese junk. America seems to be able to buy items that are made from longer lasting material, like plastics, metal that doesn't rust after one rainfall and the old type paint is the big one. It was so much better oil paint with the thinners in that were bad for the environment. Have the xylene and toluene paints been banned in Australia and America.
