Any ideas how to calculate the volume of fertiliser to put in the bottle when using a Venturi? I have a fertiliser that suggests 15ml in 5ltrs of water, how does this translate to a sprinkler coming from mains water? Thanks for a great video introducing me to the Venturi 👍

Hi i got a question. If got the same but not wat to work. In the side connection with the small suck hose there is a little spring a ball and a plastic flat ring in it. Can you tell me in what seqence this must come in there? Is it first the ball then the spring and then the ring? Or must it be in a different way?? Or did i lose parts?? Thanks in advance from Germany Friendly regards André

Hi Chillichump,thank you for your reply,how would one set up the system after Venturi device to avoid too much back pressure?a regular garden hose nozzle or gun would be a possible problem?i'm almost ready to order this device and my hoses are 5/8 with 3/4 standard conection to the house bib(Bib flow 9 gpm,wand or gun in hand now is about 6 gpm).should i buy a 1" Venturi,that's also where i'm confused.what's the brand of the one you have?

Hi Chillichump,can I use a hose longer than 50' with this device?? (actually my hose is a 5/8 or 3/4 diameter and is 78' long, with a high flow garden hose gun at the end,)will it work? some kind of siphons systems are limited to 50' hose length from after the device to the nozzle or gun.
@ChilliChump3 жыл бұрын
The length of the hose doesn't really matter...what does matter is how much back pressure there is after the Venturi device. It is a balancing act to get it right.

Do you think this would work if I just want to syphon air into the line like a bubbler to oxygenate the water

I am not sure if that would work with this particular one. But I have seen something similar that does what you need (introducing air)

I have the same kit, got it after seeing your video. But it does not 'pull' anything from the bottle (which does have a little air hole) Anywhere I can get info on how to make it work eg shorten the suction pipe, pressure requirements etc?
@ChilliChump7 жыл бұрын
+Nigel Mackay I had to fiddle with it a bit. Try change the pressure from the tap (open and close the tap). Make sure the adjustable bit on the siphon is fully opened. One you see it sucjibg the liquid, you can close the tap on the siphon off to where you want it. I found that when you use the siphon with low pressure or with the tap on the siphon closed too much then there are bubbles at the Venturi siphon part that stop the flow from happening. Took me a couple times before I "got" what it was doing
@RAMKUMAR-mb3hc6 жыл бұрын
I tried , before to start lift the siphon allow water flow through the siphon from inlet, that way air would be removed . Then just dip it. It worked for me. To let the water flow through the siphon I had a ball valve in the outlet which I close for a while until I remove the air inside

If you restrict the flow of the output with things like a dripper, then this will not work. It requires decent flow

@ChilliChump thanks for the answer ... i have a doubt .. the drip system does not generate pressure? the water does not return? maybe that's why it doesn't work?

Thanks. I have the siphon working. But when I attach the outlet to a sprinkler, water back flow through the siphon. How to prevent this
@ChilliChump6 жыл бұрын
Hi Ram, when you say backflow....how do you mean? Is water going into your fertiliser resovoir?
@RAMKUMAR-mb3hc6 жыл бұрын
Chillichump Thanks for reply. Yes you put it right. Siphon works the reverse way, water getting into the fertilizer reservoir. When I attach the outlet to a hose pipe, everything works fine - meaning siphon successfully suck the liquid fertilizer, mixes with water and deliver via the hose pipe in the outlet. But the moment I connect the hose end to a impact sprinkler, water back flows via siphon. Meaning water comes out via siphon. So the siphon works the reverse way. I guess when we attach a sprinkler, a pressure would be generated at the hose end which may cause the water to back flow and come out via siphon. I wonder how it works for you.
@ChilliChump6 жыл бұрын
Might be a silly question, but are you sure you have it pointing the right direction?
@RAMKUMAR-mb3hc6 жыл бұрын
Chillichump Yes 😀
@ChilliChump6 жыл бұрын
Ah....ok I just read your second comment again. I think the pressure is too high on the sprinkler end, and the water has nowhere else to go except into the siphon part. Have you tried turning the tap down a bit so there is less pressure buildup at the sprinkler end? I just tried with my setup and if I have the tap on fully open then I get the same issue.

You need to equalise the pressure. Too much back-pressure from the sprinkler will cause the siphon to fail.

Thanks for the post, I've been looking for something like this for ages. I'm a bit confused by the sizes quoted by various retailers on e-bay though. I have a standard 13mm hozelock hose with standard connectors which appear to me to have a 25mm or 1" thread. The retailers seem to be offering these with connecters with a diameter of either 20, 32 or 50mm - none of which would appear to be correct. Here's and example listing: bit.ly/2KcXhTX. Which size do I need or are none of these correct?

Just to point out the obvious, when using seaweed your mix raito doesn't even have to be close to accurate but if you're using a salt fertilizer like 20-20-20 etc you will need to be dead on and not use the time to empty the bottle method because that has a lot of variables like pressure and flow rate of your garden hose etc. It would have been nice to see more on how you came to your end calculations on the ratio and mix etc
@ChilliChump6 жыл бұрын
You are absolutely right, best to be careful on ratios on some fertilisers. I got to my ratios by running the tap through the Venturi into a large water container. Once the Venturi siphon emptied the smaller mix bottle I measure how much water had gone through the system into the big container and calculated the ratio. You are right though I should have showed my method on camera to help people out. When I originally did the video it was just to show the concept, and it is always tough when making these videos to figure out how much detail people want to see! Thank you for your comment!
@Tom-Ato6 жыл бұрын
Def a good point to bring up when it comes to dilution ratios for tank/pump sprayers and foliar feeding; however, I'd say that this video highlights a delivery method (regardless of total water usage) for a *finite fertilizer solution across a known area-- hence the oscillating sprinkler adjusted for garden plot coverage. This would be similar to fertilizer recommendations given in Pounds per Square Foot. Plus, I sure hope anyone spraying fertilizers at 20-20-20 should already know exactly what they're doing instead of relying on online videos, blogs, and pinterest.

@ChilliChump4 жыл бұрын
You need to balance the pressure. If you have too much back-pressure coming from whatever you connect at the end (sprinkler etc.) then the siphon won't work. So play with the flow rate.

I bought this exact syphon, and try as I might just cannot get it working properly. It sucks through fertilizer for about 3 seconds then just stops and doesn't pass anymore. Any ideas? If I disconnect the outlet side of the syphon while water is passing I get covered in seasol so I know it works but the second I reconnect the outlet it just slows and stops :(

Thank you for your response. i was asking because i attempted the same set up - and was unable to get the siphon to actually siphon when hooked up to the sprinkler. When the hose at the end is just open with no sprinkler/nozzle then the venturi siphon will siphon upfrom my bucket. It seems that any restriction at the end of the hose prevents the siphoning effect. Ill mess around with it some more in case i messed something up.
@ChilliChump6 жыл бұрын
There is nothing that you have messed up. I also had to play with the pressure a little bit from the tap end. If there is too much pressure pushing back from the sprinkler end, then it doesn't work well.
