I fed them once at end of April,or the beginning of May, a little bit of my rose food with micro nutrients. That is all I will give them this year, as they are all still in purchase pot

I use Tomorite at 40ml/9.5ltr watering can. Likewise with liquid Seaweed, same ratio/dilution. Seems to help a bit, admittedly, not explosive growth but I consider this as a “tincture “ to an otherwise bland watering can of tap water! The NPK of Tomorite being relatively low on the N value. The Seaweed solution doesn’t indicate the NPK values. One point to mention to stimulate growth is Pruning! My Sango Kaku’s and Kogane respond well to a light prune! I think with Fertiliser is not to overdo it, but gently, very gently “tickle” it to wake up and grow. No innuendo intended!,,

Hello. I planted two maple trees in a container last spring after buying them at a nursery. I live in Tel Aviv in Israel. The average temperature in the winter is 15 degrees and in the summer 30 degrees. I am debating how to fertilize the container in the spring according to the area I live in. What is the recommended fertilizer for npk in a hot area

As always, excellent information. Thank you! I know you had mentioned micronutrients. Are those considered a fertilizer as well? Can you burn a plant with micronutrients like you can with NPK fertilizers?

They can be depending on the amount of NPK. They are typically in low numbers on the side of the bag also

We need a video on what to do when over fertilized. I have one that lost leaves and stalled. I took steps to remove the fertilizer and start it growing again but it doesn't have many leaves left.

Great idea! Typically removing as much as possible works best in that situation

Question: Matt gave example of Osmocote as heat release granular fertilizer. Since I am in hot Z8b, do you have example of water release granular fertilizer?

I’m sure different brands can be both. Just check the package. Nutricoat is a water release brand

now i know im from one of the best growing places in the world (western washington) i've saved many japanesse maples around my neighborhood, and have had 13 baby sprouts from my grandaddy out front planted at friends and family houses around here... we've never used any fertilizer ever... only thing thats ever damaged the trees would be kids and soccer balls and wind storms... is that simply our environment here? the only thing i've ever used some fertelizer on was our roses out back. just curious if fertelizer is only needed in other places with different climates? thanks, i look forward to another show, can't say i'm a scientist or anything, just been taking care of japanees maples my whole life (43 yrs) they just happen to be my favorite tree in whole world, i've even got mostly dead ones for from from local garden store, i just put 'em in the yard, and they've grown perfectly... only thing we ever do is give extra water when we can in august ( our hottest month) again thanks, enjoyed the show (just getting back to social media after a 3 year break :)

I’m no expert as I just started my Japanese maple addiction this past spring but I’m in CT and I haven’t fertilized either but the trees look very happy because I have pretty rich soil. I might give them a little bit because they started as 1 gallons but I wanted smaller maples that I could enjoy for a while

Hi! Thank you for the informative video. Can I ask you a question? I've got a Fireglow from you that is doing really well and I plan to plant a ring of English roses around it (not too close of course). I'm in zone 5b and I use Espoma Rose Tone (4-3-2) every month from April to August to fertilize my roses. Will that food hurt the tree? You mentioned that it's best to stop fertilizing by the end of May, but you also talked that you use a stronger fertilizer than the Espoma. I really hope that my plan can work as it'll look gorgeous. 😊 Thank you!

It can is the honest answer. I don’t fertilize maples after May so they shut down well. That is a very low amount but I would use caution after May.

If the new growth leaves start turning black and die down, does it mean the plant got too much fertilozer? How can it be fixed? :( My fireglow is really struggling.

Have you checked the underside of the leaves for aphids? They love JM's at this time of year and they can blacken the leaves.

I’ve heard from some maple groups this is helpful but I’ve never tried it myself…. Super thrive has helped w root growth and transplanting for me tho but it’s not really a fertilizer
