That was the most unhinged parade/festival I've seen...and I've been to a lot of weird events! Definitely putting this one on my list! Like a lot of West Virginians, I have extended family in the Detroit area who went up in the 50s/60s to work in the auto industry.

It's a relatively young festival. Starting sometime in the 80's by a couple of students at Wayne State University. Word was a bit slow to spread and Covid stalled it, but it's back and it's steadily growing. Who knows, maybe it'll reach the popularity of the Woodward Avenue Dream Cruise in the next few years. 😉😈👹

Detroit, Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, nearly all of The Tri-country area is very LBGTQ friendly as well as the larger cities throughout the State. There are a few pockets of Hostility around, but they just don't like visitors at all.

@@Nightbat1321 The UP doesn't care much for visitor's of any kind once the Tourist season is over. God help you if they think your a real estate developer or a government agent. I guess I can't fault them for not wanting all of the beautiful woods and lakefront properties being sold off to snobby rich people, but I think the weather that far North is it's own deterrent. UP winter's tend to be truely brutal and only the heartiest of people can stand to live there year round. I would say the most dangerous place to go in Michigan for LTBGQ is currently Holton Township, word is that place is a breeding ground for the extremist.

Heyyy glad you were able to make it out to Detroit. We do have some fun festivals around here. Like any big city there are pros and cons and shady areas but sadly gets a bad rap still. The statue on the shirt you saw is the Spirit of Detroit, check it out next time you're in the area. Come haunt season you should check out Eloise Asylum in nearby Westland, I hear nothing but high praises about it.

So the demon cursed the town because a guy kicked it right? So you as an individual can either celebrate it and offer it festivities and cake on your head, or try to get it to kick rocks and leave you alone. It makes sense that people would chose different tactics.😅
