It's the penultimate day of the 2021 #Festive500 and the temperature is rising here in country Victoria. Today's 62km loop is a mix of everything from flat, hilly, and music events at medieval castles 🏰. Along the way I take you through all the details about the upgrade to Mrs Lama's Cervelo Aspero gravel bike gearing from Rival 40T 10-36 to the new RED AXS eTap XPLR allowing for a 10-44 on the back.

You know it''s great content when a fly wants to be part of it and probably other wildlife were watching, especially Marsupials. Always good to have Von included.

I just switched to the ethirteen Helix Race 9-45, from my Force 10-44 XPLR, with a 40 up front the ratios are really good. The 9 is perfect for stuff over53kph with the 40 up front.

Most of my KMs have been on Zwift this week with our FCold/FWet weather but I have forced myself outside for a few rides. Naturally Rapha had their after-Christmas sale with a ton of cold weather gear, too late for the festive. Ah well, we will hope for a few warm days this winter...

Hey Shane , Which wheels are you riding ? They look aero :) would you still recommend the wheels for a heavy rider with 94kg? Cheers from 🇩🇪 Phil
@gplama
@gplama 2 жыл бұрын
Scribe Aero Wide+ 50-D on this bike at the moment. They're not gravel wheels but they're doing the job for now. Not sure on wheels for heavier riders. I'd recommend diving into the specs on each manufacturers website. Scribe have a note about maximum weights on their wheel listings.
@jeskli11
@jeskli11 2 жыл бұрын
@@gplama Scribe also offers Aero Wide+ 50-HD - the HD standing for high durability. The rim shape is identical, they just have compared to yours more spokes and perhaps the rim is slightly more heavy duty as they come in about 100 g heavier. However, they have weight limit (if I remember correctly) of 120 kg, so they should be absolutely okay for 94kg rider.

Hi Shane. Love your videos especially the F500 ones. Wondering if you could help me with info on Sram XPLR components. I am looking at buying an Aspero frame with wheels/bars/saddle etc & then would have to source a drivetrain for it. I want to put the Sram XPLR 1x12 components either Force or Rival on it but I'm a bit lost with all the different components. Would you mind listing the specific components i would need eg shifter & calliper set, RD, & cranks . Any comments on Fortce Vs Rival would also be appreciated. Thanks In advanced. Haydon

Panaracers are v. good; they came with my gravel bike but one tore so I have maxxis ramblers on now and they're not bad either. Both are fast, tubeless compatible and probably lean more towards light gravel/on road use which is perfect for my needs.

5:11 : You can go 9 tooth in the back. Take a look at e*thirteen TRS PLUS 12 Speed Cassette with a range of 9-46 or 9-50. 9 tooth cog equipped cassetes for XD(R) driver bodies are manufactured by a few other companies too, however, this is the only one I know about that's 12 speed.

@@gplama My brother-in-law had the 11 speed version of that cassette on his Salsa Fargo before he switched to sorta Eagle mullet setup (but mechanical as he used his original Force levers with Ratio installed in them). It's probably not worth the switch from 10-52 Eagle setup, but I suspect the XPLR rear mech officially designed for 44t cog max should handle the 9-46 version of this cassette just about fine.
