Hi Peter. I just purchased the latest OF1010 (2022). So far so good. It has been suggested that when using the Leigh jig that it is easier if you have a second router. I have a DeWalt router which has been a huge disappointment (very sensitive locking mechanism which refuses to unlock and is a known problem). The OF1010 has been a brilliant router and much easier to use than the other heavier routers I own. Well worth the premium price. For circles and ovals I bought the Virutex jig which is extremely useful.

Hi Stak, I use the OF1010 for all of my dovetail and template work. It is very easy to handle and has plenty of power. Cheers. Peter

I have an OF1010 which I use with a Leigh jig - I find it easier to control than the OF 1400. I also find it very easy to trim hardwood edge banding on plywood using the OF 1010 and the attachments you mention. Thanks for the videos - I picked up several tips about my router while watching them. David.

Hi Peter. Thanks for this video. I have the Festool 1010 and overall I love it and the dust collection is superb. The only thing I find disappointing is that the base is designed so there is no way to perfectly center router bits inside guide collets. This is critical to me as I set things, like box lid restraints into 1/2" wide hardwood. So I am cutting a 1/2" deep, 1/4" wide, 2 7/8' long mortise in the edge of the box. These are Brusso hardware pieces that keep the lid of the box from falling back. I use jigs I have made with a 1/2 OD collet guiding a 1/4" spiral up cut router bit. My OF1010 is a little over 1/64th of an inch off. So on many things no big deal, but when this 1/4" piece of hardware is set in 1/2" wide box with 1/8" showing on each side, this little difference is noticeable. According to the Festool Owner Group forum, Festool has no solution. So I go to the master!!! I know your precision is superb and wouldn't accept this either. Any ideas or have you heard of other solutions. Seems getting the Leigh Jig elliptical collects is an option. I understand with the slight ellipse, this allows you to rotate the collect in their adaptor to center the bit. Thanks for any help or ideas or if you have found this to be the best solution. Amazing to me Festool has done nothing about this over the years the 1010 has been out. Or please correct me if that is not true! Thank you, Steve

Hi Steve, It is very easy to adjust the OF1010 for centre unlike its larger sibling the OF1400. I use the Leigh 704R insert to hold the Leigh guide bush. Here it is at Axminster: www.axminster.co.uk/leigh-adaptors-for-threaded-guide-bushes-ax20346 It is fixed with the two screws from the base. If you use a centring mandrel fitted in the router and passing through your guide bush then tightening the two screws whilst keeping the mandrel snug against the circular centre of the guide bush all will be well. I have covered this in the following video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gKmqimx6drmAarM Good luck. Peter

Thank you Peter! You are the Master! I have the adaptor on order from Leigh. Someone on the Festool owners forum mentioned to ask for correct flat headed screws so the original counter sunk screws don't work against you and pull it back out of place of dead center. I watched your video in the past and apparently didn't remember as I had liked it already. Thank you for the link!!!! Steve @@NewBritWorkshop

great video again Peter. I just bought one recently and its such a nice router! I also have all 3 routers and I don't know about you but if I could go back I would probably just get the 2200 and 1010 routers, there really my go to routers. ....... with that said I'm not getting rid of the 1400 any time soon so its hard to say.. I guess there all good for something. All the best Ben

Ben Corriveau Hi Ben, The OF1010 is a "must have" router but if you only needed one more then it depends on what you do. I made the previous video in order to help people choose. Many thanks. Peter

I actually bought a second 1400 since my first one has always been dedicated to my beloved CMS...I can do just about anything with my 1400 that you can do with the 1010 so long as you get a bit inventive at times! Lol

Hi Peter, I've just bought the Leigh D4Rpro with VRS & I was going to use my Hitachi M12V2 with it, but I find it very heavy. I have been looking at the festool 1010, but I was not sure if it would be powerful enough for dovetails in Oak, but after watching your video, I may have to spend some more money. Excellent video bye the way, thanks

Peter, great video thanks, I notice that you have built a 'stand' for your Leigh jig which appears to fix to the MFT3? I don't have a Leigh but I have an early Woodrat, your video has inspired me to try and build an MFT3 mount for it! (purely because I'm in my garage and have little space).

George Scholey Hi George, A good plan as it is a good idea to work at the correct height and, if you design it right, you can keep your Woodrat inside to protect it when not in use. Peter

Great review, thanks. I have a couple of questions: Can i plane with this router? ( I don’t have a planer) Can i use it to cut a 2inch deep circle on a diameter of 48inches ( i need to make a round table)
@NewBritWorkshop
@NewBritWorkshop 5 жыл бұрын
I would not use this router to cut a circle like that as you need a larger router. Also, planning can only be done efficiently on a router table and I would recommend a larger router for that - the OF1400 would be better for both applications. Peter

Hi Peter. Can you use the Festool Edge Trimming Kit with a OF1400 router?
@NewBritWorkshop
@NewBritWorkshop 9 жыл бұрын
Chris Munro Hi Chris, I do not think so as the OF 1400 is a different size and there appears to be no way to fix it. I had a look at the Festool UK web site and the edging kit is not shown as an accessory for the OF 1400. Peter

Hello Peter. Some excellent information in part 1 and part 2. Did the Leigh guide bush adapter come from Festool or Leigh? And where did you get the guide bush adapter? Also will the Leigh guide bush adapter also fit the OF 1400? Thanks for your time Peter. 😊 Ron
@NewBritWorkshop
@NewBritWorkshop 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ron, The adapter that fits on the router itself varies from router to router. I got mine from Axminster - it is the 704R for the Festool OF1010. The guide bush itself came fromLeigh. Peter

Hi Peter, I mentioned in another post I had just bought a CTL SYS dust extractor. I bought a second hand 1010 a while ago, so using your video as a tutorial. But how do I connect the CTL SYS to the dust outlet on the 1010? The two components look incompatible - is there an adaptor i need to buy?
@NewBritWorkshop
@NewBritWorkshop 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Kevin, No, an adapter is not needed. The end of the hose is flexible and can easily be made to fit over the oval dust port of the OF1010. I find that when it is below 12 deg C in my workshop the rubber end of the hose is a little stiffer but I still manage. Peter

Hello Peter, thank you for a very good review and demonstration of this router. I've seen it multiple times! I just bought one myself since I am starting up my home wood shop (hobbyist only). My plans are to make furniture, benches, stools, book shelves, beds, boxes, side tables and so on. I am wondering, do you think that this is the right router for work like this? Or, is the 1400 more of a versatile woodworking router? I am aware of the limitations regarding the bit size, but...since I lack experience in "routing" i am having some troubles finding out what this limitation really means, what am I missing with a smaller router? If you could provide me with some guiding I would be very grateful. Another question is about the router box set. Could you tell me if there are bits for creating dados, tounges and grooves? If you could give a quick presentation of the included bits I would be very happy! Like I said, I am new to this (woodworking) but been dreaming /reading about it for years. Hope it's clear what I am asking for, that my English isn't to bad and that you can shine some light on my wonderings. I have also watched your "which Festool router" - video and it provided me with some ease of mind but these are tough decisions for an amateur! Thank you in advance and keep up the great work, very inspiring! Greetings, Henrik (Östersund, Sweden)

Hi Henrik, First of all, many thanks for so many kind remarks throughout your message. Next, the OF1010 is an excellent "starter" router. It takes both 1/4" and 8 mm bits which gives you a huge number of options. Look at the Festool range of router bits and you will see everything that you need for the work that you currently plan. The OF1400 is also a very capabe router and would take you to the 1/2" shaft size but that might be your second router in a couple of years time. Even as an amateur you shuld expect to eventally own at least 2 routers ! Peter

does the leigh bits provided with the jig fit on a festool 1010? - or did you use festools own bits?

+Jonas Jensen Hi Jonas, Yes, I have Leigh cutters and they fit the 1010. I use 8 mm shank and I have the 8 mm collet but there may be 1/4" ones available. Peter
