Sedge walks us through calibrating your track saw to your guide rail. Sedge also says to ensure your saw is unplugged or without batteries when calibrating. Before calibrating if your saw has started cutting differently, there are other steps to try. Make sure you clean your blade and, in some cases, replace your blade.

Hi Sedge, have you shot the video on setting 90 already? And if not, could you include setting the angle scale too? So setting 45 also makes a 45 bevel?

The reason I decided on Festool for my retirement hobby workshop was the vast amount of quality education. Professor Sedge’s presentations have confirmed my decision time and time again. About 30 years ago I was trained in orthopaedic surgery - plates, pins, screws, bolts etc by the Swiss Synthes AO system. It was an intensive 5 day course, mornings were practical classes, afternoon were theory, including metallurgy and physics. I then realised that high performance results with very high quality tools also required high quality training and education. Comparison videos on Festool V Makita, for example, ignores this essential factor. These sort of videos are meaningful for an experienced and expert woodworker, but are misleading for us newbies. Most people do not understand the focus on education by Festool. I based my very successful practice by educating clients, who were hungry to get information and knowledge. This devotion to education helps explain the fanatical client loyalty to Festool.

That was helpful. I have a 55 that is over twelve years old, and have recently purchased a 75. The 75 does cut a bit clowser to the rail; so I guess that I will start with trying to adjust the 55, since I already cut my strip on my long rail for the 75. I did run into one other situation with the 75 that I have not figured out yet. When I adjust the 75's grip on the rail to take out the slop, the adjustment knobs tighten as I am making a cut to where the saw actually stops. I was able to stop this problem by loosening the grip on the rail. This leaves the saw with less of a grip on the rail than I would expect for a really precise cut. Maybe my standards are too high; but I did not have this problem with my old TS55. Any ideas?

This is great! I've been looking for an explanation of how to calibrate the newer saws with the bolts on the underside. But I have a question... Isn't what you've done just calibrating the second saw to the cut made by the first saw (rather than calibrating it to the rail)? If the first saw wasn't calibrated to the rail, then the second saw won't be either. If your first cut through the wood wasn't perfectly lined up with your rail's splinter strip, then it still won't be even after this process. It'll just be correctly toed. What should you do if you only have one saw, and it's not cutting along the line of the splinter strip?

Do I have to calibrate everytime I switch between rails? i only have one saw. I use three rails. One for straight line ripping 8ft ply, one on the mft. And one for rough crosscut.

What about if you are using the thin rips on the parallel guides? Shouldn’t that mean that you toe it the other direction?

@@sedgetool With the stops on the extensions of the parallel guide, there is no extra room right of the blade. The board is up against the stops just as if a table saw fence was move to the other side of the blade. If you want to avoid pinching the board between the stops and the blade, wouldn't you want to toe it such that the trailing edge of the blade was further from the stops instead of being further from the rail?

Man I must really be more of a hack than once thought. I have a few short rails and connect them. I didn't know this fix existed or there was even an issue. My assumption was you buy a saw and it works on the rails made by the company. There are people that have seperate rails for each saw? Whers the practicality in that? Isn't the whole point of the Festool system the ability to use it all together. A 75 is on the radar but, I expect to be able to drop it on the tracks I already own , snug it up and not have to do much else unless of course it takes a tough hit. Is this wrongthink?
