The simple honest truth, I don't admire these women at all. They are all unhappy, backstabbing, vile creatures whom had the compassion and warmth of a wet blanket. What I DO admire are these actresses who are portraying them. Diane, Calista, Naomi, Molly, Demi, etc. all of these women who even 20 years ago would be considered 'past their prime' and given grandmother and croon roles, are delighting our computer screens and giving some of the best performances of their careers. Amazing work and man oh man is Calista Flockhart my absolute favorite in this show. I hope to see more of her in roles like this.

Lee was the most beautiful of the two sisters. She was the happy one, traveled, had many friends from all walks of life. She was charming. Went to rock concerts. She was the laid back sister, and dressed beautifully.

I have yet to read something that ties Slim to Bill Paley in a romantic way. In fact, at the time, Bill was involved with a younger blonde called Joanna. Why would he go after an older broad and one that was close to his dying wife?

That's why I don't get the admiration for these women. Slim especially. I read her biography and she had a ton of affairs and was BEST FRIENDS with Babe Paley! The audacity😮 she slept with Bill and before that, she was already cheating on Howard Hawkes with her second soon to be husband Hayward while still married to Hawkes. These were not nice women nor were they justified in judging other women they viewed were beneath them like Ann Woodward. They were trash!

I wonder what these women were actually like, what animated their interior lives, how they felt about being both highly privileged and completely dependent on their husbands, why they undermined each other, how social perception could be so consuming as to drive one of them to suicide. All of that these amazing actors would have shown us if the scripts were at all interested in them, really, instead of giving us these cheap, drag show caricatures. An embarrassing waste.

The script writing is so soapy and wooden. I couldn’t tell if Calista Flockhart was being genuine or sarcastic is her last line, and nothing is subtle, just confusing. I’d call it campy if it wasn’t so obviously not.
