It's the same reason people like watching college sportsball over professional. the college kids make mistakes, don't know the meta, the games could swing huge in ways that pros would never allow to happen. In short it's much more entertaining when the game is uncertain, versus two opponents mechanically going through the motions. tl;dr amateurs are more spontaneous

Red is honestly the most CLEAR player I have ever seen. He types properly (Sign of some one who isn't freaking out) And pushes deer without concentrating on anything else. Wp to these guys!

To lame someone is to injure someone's leg, so laming in Age of Empires derives from that. You can't 'move' as fast through the ages because you've lost your food. Fun fact of the day!

I saw someone say that going after the enemy's resources was BM, and they cited the term "laming" as evidence for why it's obviously lame to play the game that way, but they don't realize it actually refers to crippling the opponent. It's hard to see why that shouldn't be a perfectly valid strategy but I think the colloquial meaning of the word lame confuses people.

Its funny how common the term "laming" was on older games in general, you barely hear it used anymore but it was very common in 90's / early 00's games and the exact meaning of it differs from game to game. As far as I know the usage of the term dates all the way back to 80's and the Commodore 64's demoscene where it was very common to call rival groups and people "lamers". You can find hundreds of C64 demos from mid to late 80's on youtube and you'll see the term used a lot. I figure it picked up from that to IRC channels in the 90's and later became a general term used in video games to describe some particular thing that was "lame" to do. One other example I can think of is Star Wars: Jedi outcast where laming meant using the blue lightsaber stance and doing a quick left-right wiggle to kill people that were typing or otherwise chilling :)

I always assumed that the term 'laming' is associated with 'lame' horses and the act of crippling. As in, horses are lamed when one of their legs is broken. You also have the term 'lame-duck', meaning a person that is ineffective and unable to do what they might want and should be able to.

Whenever I see the map, I feel that it would be interesting if there were tiny 1x1 or 2x2 size shores between rocks for each player (2-3 shores total) in this map and if you find them, you can dock there for nothing but traps. Some civs could use the privilege, players could escape with transport ships and reach to the opponent by surprise.

to lame is way older. It's of germanic origin ("lahmen") meaning moving slow due to injury or being crippled. It usually refers to an animal but not exclusively. Also can be used to describe the cause of said condition.

The Funny Thing is. Red Could have Used VILLAGERS to Kill the Spearmen and Destroy the Rams since the Very Beginning, Because Rams are Weak to All Melee Attacks (Villagers do 3 Damage and Rams have -3 Hack Armour) and The Spearmen had NO Upgrades, Unupgraded Villagers are one of the Few Military Units to lose Outright to Villagers, the Other being a Skirmisher (Who have Loom) :Edit. I meant Unupgraded SPEARMEN. not Villagers. lol.

The term "to lame" means to cripple or maim something or someone. Laming in AOE means the same thing. Stealing sheep or boar in the early game cripples their eco, giving them a disadvantage. The insult or derisive term "lame" as in: "T90's farm placement is so lame", is derived from the same origin, in that you are referring to that person's skills as so bad that it appears they must be physically crippled or simply broken and unfixable, as a lame horse is considered useless, and would be put down(🐴->☠️). Tamerlane's (from the AOE2:DE Tatar Campaign) name is a European version describing Timur Ghurkani or "Timur the Lame", the Emir of Transoxinia as "lame" because of a leg injury he sustained as a young man.

I would like to see a segment implemented to the LEL format. I think there should be a quick overview after the game for 2-3 minutes and T90 could give tips on how the losing player could have reacted better and turned the tide. Some games are just shit shows but this one is a good example of a pretty common strat (cuman feudal rams) and I don't know if Red would learn anything from rewatching this. Should he have gone into emergency MAA production? Dive the rams and pikes with all his vills? Or is going fast castle with no stone walls on Socotra just suicide and he was screwed no matter what?

I think this situation could have been solved very easily. Instead of Maa, he should have used Knights to deal with the rams, while TC fire gets rid of the Spears. Pulling some lumberjacks to repair could also have helped red a lot, and dedicate two vills to build destroyed houses.

That would be a nice feature. He tends to only do it when one big thing really screwed over a player's chances when he should have won. In this case, he did mention in passing that red could have fought with villagers. I think that's the best option since you have a bunch of them already and don't need to wait for numbers. They're the only thing that can reliably save your TC in that moment. Spears are weak enough that you can fight them with vils, too, especially under your TC. Directing TC fire manually would be necessary though. As T90 mentioned, red's position would have been solid if he just saved his TC and made some knights. Fun game to watch nonetheless.

I think Red would get what to do from that video: make a lumbercamp and be in feudal 3 mins earlier without idle TC, and win the game in feudal. Don't push deer with your entire eco idle, be to Castle Age earlier, and win the game with knights. Make 3 knights instead of saying oops, clear the push, win. But the beauty of LEL is not the fact they could very easily improve, it's the fun characters and little obsessions. This game is a perfect example.

​@@JohnSmith-tk7nt My answer is "git gud", yeah. Not a very constructive answer, I know, but no need to elaborate on strats at such elo. Any dumb strat can work when executions look like that. The game would be very easy to win by doing less mistakes, it's as simple as that. It's not really about strategy, it's about doing something with the ressources and reacting faster. And I try to say that without being offensive. It's ok to be new/bad/not interested in getting better. We all have different lives and different time/energy to invest. Even at suboptimal but still decent elo (like let's say 1200) you wouldn't see such a strat actually win (or you'd need to severely tweak it to make it faster, and have a skill difference between the players).

So I’m 1000% low elo I haven’t done ranked at all but I recently got back into DE now that my laptop can run it perfectly, I can get to feudal usually around 8-10 minutes depending on my micro and I can usually scout rush by 10-14 I usually play Magyars since I like the free attack upgrades especially at feudal pop I have lethal scouts for the time. I always kinda die out as I don’t know what to go for I make sure once I hit castle to start throwing down extra TCs usually just do 3 I don’t know what exactly to do or what’s up lmao
