For the Favela name: "Ondas", which means waves in Portuguese. Since it's inspired by Brazil and looks kinda like a tidal wave coming down the hill side. Every single build of yours is just so impressive, the asset fusing in the Favela is downright inspired! Once you start adding more trains as public transport into the build I'd love to see a train line near or even through the Favela, would definitely add to vibe!

What great work, I'm speechless. I'm a Brazilian, not from Rio, and happy to have remembered our country. The favela is pretty accurate and thank you for putting there a police and fire station, and a school. And to not put drug dealers and criminals (real life is enough). The church was also perfect, it's a very common popular church in Brazil and most of us are Christians. Maybe on a new beach, you could use Copacabana's sidewalks (I think they are available at steam).
@MRR_24 Жыл бұрын
Amazing build! I think adding a bunch of telephone poles/wires throughout the favela would also look quite cool. And as for a name, perhaps the area was named after the church? Santa Rita - the patron saint of loneliness (which is a somewhat close synonym for solitude? Lol). Anyways, great job!

What a wonderful build ... one little suggestion: the south-american cities of La Paz and Medellin have their own way of connecting poorer hillside neighbourhoods to the city proper. Cable cars, so high capacity that you might want to consult the workshop. This really help to unite society as people were suddenly able to start jobs that used to be too far away ... Mi Teleférico in La Paz started in 2014 and they already have ten lines creating the worlds largest cable car network.
@JezArnold Жыл бұрын
Definitely! Cable cars would rock here.. you should make the entire mountain side one huge favela. Would be awesome

Maybe Lado da Colina meaning “side of the hill” or Ladocolina has a nice ring to it. Like the locals omitted the word “da” over time to quickly pronounce the place’s location and it eventually became the area’s name. It was few houses before, originally a small logging village. When people asked where do you live, people living in that area would just respond “at the side of the hill” Due to the demand of workers on the nearby train station / cargo, offering better pay, some locals started building homes near it. The sudden rise of the tourism and luxury living in the region spiked the demand for housing / cheap apartments for blue collar job employees. People from outside the region started to flock into Solitude trying to look for jobs in the hospitality industry. Some of the original land owners knowing the opportunity of raking in some money from non-local renters, converted their small houses to multi story room for rents. Others illegally settled in that place since there isn’t really a strict policy in the city during its early days. Lado da Colina became a common term in Solitude especially when directing non-locals that were looking for a cheap place to rent. It was shortened to Ladocolina over the years as some of non-locals and foreigners kept mispronouncing the words. It was a chaotic mess. High crime rate and a lot of shady stuff happened in the small district. The local government and rich investors in the region tried to dismantle Ladocolina especially the illegal settlers as they feel it was lowering the land value of Solitude. The people living in the area fought. Some rich people even hired arsonists to take the place down. The national government mediated in between as they see the potential for Solitude and would want the area to be peaceful. Both parties agreed to some conditions. Some houses were demolished in the area to make way to few local roads so that police and fire services can access the area incase of fire and crime. They also added some better building guidelines to the newer homes that was built in the area. Hence why the lower part of the district looks nicer. Ladocolina, over time was then recognized as an important part of Solitude as it became the cradle for workers that aspires a better life in the city. Now, the local government is planning to create medium rise tenements and apartments near the area to avoid further sprawling of the district and to reduce the environmental impacts of Ladocolina. Instead of disowning the district, the local government is trying to make it as a tourist attraction. Sorry I was inspired by the favela build 😂 My brain cannot resist to make a story about it.

I think this may be the first build like this that I have seen that doesn’t “cheat” and use Procedural Objects to basically turn the game into Blender. To make something like that with just regular asset fusion, and not totally garble the terrain is really impressive. For discouraging too much education, I think I remember a policy to that effect-forget the name though. It encouraged youth to go into jobs rather than school. Perhaps apply that to the low income areas like this.

Wow! I asked for something like this way back in the first episode of Solitude. Most mods and assets in CS seem to be aimed at prettyfying everything, so I was looking forward to this in the hope that you would use your detailing mastery to show us how to do ROUGH well, and you have delivered in spades! I suggest 'Cidade de Deus' as the name of the favela. If you haven't seen the film 'City of God' then you really should! It's a gritty, realistic, often brutal portrayal of life in a Brazilian favela, and an excellent watch.

love your stuff, candy! you absolutely nailed the general vibe of the favela, but I think you need to add some context to its surroundings. there is a reason why these settlements pop up where they do and that's a key difference to regular, more urbanized low-income neighborhoods. basically these settlers will fill in urban areas that the upper classes do not find desirable to build upon. these are hazardous areas, due to landslide risks or polluted soil -- think landfill sites, sewage plants or very heavy industry.

i know im late but my wife is from rio originally, a favella is basically just a unplanned housing development, alot of them are self built houses and use terrain that wouldnt otherwise be used so when you went to google maps that was the end of planned residential then the favella has been built into the cliffside afterwards. fun fact david beckham has a house at the very top ofone the biggest favellas in rio (it looks out over ipenema and lablone beach spectacular views

Jesus christ, you really outdid yourself here. This attention to detail in a highly chaotic area like a favela? Insane. I was waiting for such a build and this exceeded any expectation I had by far. Plus i think it was very clever to have a very dense vegetation around this area creating almost a claustrophobic feel up there. I hope this type of favela will pop up again elsewhere. Great (!) build.

At first I was a bit skeptical about this built, because i thought you were “ruining “ your amazing city hahah i mean, i actually come from Caracas and we have quite a lot of favelas surrounding our city. Even though i have considered building one in my cities in the game, I am used to think they’re not a great look for cities, even though i understand why they pop up in cities… but i think you did a great job replicating a favela, it looked very realistic, and i do appreciate that you did it. I have personally been on favelas and i have some tips if you like to make it even more like the real thing: you will often have really narrow alleyways, like only for people, and some houses have access to that. Also, as they’re on mountains, you will find stairways leading to more houses. As a rule of thumb, the houses that are at the bottom are “better looking “ than the ones on the top. Also, sometimes you will find a bus line going to the upper part of the favela, but they’re not really buses, but vans or jeeps that carry like 8 people at a time. Thanks for building this. Great city, love your videos!!

Fyi the favelas are build that way because of how dangerous it is to buid on the side of the mountain, there are a lot of sliding of the terrain when it rains, so people from very low to no income end up building there because no one else wants to. It is not regulated by the city so that is why there are no roads or services. Just something to keep in mind and be careful to not romanticize the situation. It looks like they are all pack on top of each other bc they are, and they risk their lives every day from a collapse or slidings. Your build obviously looks amazing like always but maybe smt to research and bring up on the next favela build ❤
