If you dig into her backstory, and you can already know by the point of reaching the Nightsong, she has been conditioned and forced on one path her entire life. Helping her break free from that so she can get her life back and make her own choices, re-unite her family and possibly become her loved one for life is in my experience very gratifying. Cleric is one of those classes that really pays to max out. Multiclassing might be king elsewhere in this game. But the level six Cleric spells are absolutely worth it. In our multi player game we have two Clerics. My Light domain and a Shadowheart. My Light Cleric snapped up Markoheshkir Legendary Quarterstaff as soon as we got it. Cast extraplanar ally with arcane battery and then Hero's Feast. We roll in to combat with a fighter maxed out on parasite powers trailing 4 zombies behind him, Two Clerics, a Bard and two Planar Allies. All juiced on Hero's Feast and having blade ward stacked on them for ten rounds thanks to Hellrider's Pride/Devotee's Mace combo. It's like having our own personal army.

I love guides like this. I hate most guides that go for clicks. They just stop at the final boss and play around at level 12 to pump out combination after combination. Because here's the reality. It's not pretty when builds become a matter of *Progression.* This "tempest/sorc OP combo" might not go online until level 7. You might even go full cleric until level 5. Or this build might not go "online" until you get the gears, the buffs, the level, and the spell unlocked, at a specific number. Progression > Builds. A realistic cleric build would go something like this. *Your cleric practically only needs 2 spells for the whole of ACT 1.* That's Bless and Sanctuary. At the cost of your attack turn, you can increase the chances of your allies to deal double damage. Doesnt sound pretty now isnt it. If i was a content creator, i would go for builds per *ACTS.* Or section them into levels and categories ( support / damage / all around ) instead of combinations. But that would cost me clicks to maintain my integrity. Or make a lot of enemies that have a massive community. So im just ranting here.

A lot of people min max on cleric becuase of early game, but doesn't know that it may sounds good early but bad after level 5 since level 5 is most class abilities spike. Pure druid is better than pure cleric imo. You can get double water myrmidons which have spammable heals and AOE all in one. You can also provide heros feast. Cleric can multiclass into wiz for dealing max lightning damage spells with Tempest. Or war priest is nice for martial multiclass. Or tempest with the thunder damage throwing spear is hilarious. Pure cleric is kinda meh ...
@FoxSinBan-54682 Жыл бұрын
With Markoheshkir staff you get both of the missing lightning spells without having to multiclass. 2 water myrmidons is kinda unnecessary tbh. I'd much rather have a cleric doing max damage with several AOEs using one water myrmidon's puddles.@@mofogie

Because Shadowheart starts as trickery domain most people don't realize how good other domains are. I also struggled with trickery Shadow but as soon as i respected her to light i just loved it. Tempest does more damage against ordinary targets for sure but there aren't many enemies with radiant resistance so i think light is better against strong enemies. There aren't many light spells neither in other classes. It also provides great protection with warding flare which could be used on allies as well.

Try her as a life cleric … even briefly. If you have healing gear on her it trivializes healing entirely. The two channel divinity for her are basically each like a short rest for healing. That means you get 8 of those per long rest (6 channel divinity, plus 2 short rests) and a bard increases that by 3 more (one more short rest which recharges 2 channel divinity). With full healing gear channel divinity will … * +2 healing to each healed target * heal life cleric +2 for each companion and ally healed * +3 temp hit points (which is minor when people have 100 hit points … except except over the whole day this is 72 party temp hit points a day … more with a bard … from act 1 green boots … and that’s from channel divinity alone … that’s a free top level heal spell * bless on the party for 2 rounds * blade ward on the party for two rounds

@@zero11010 War domain is very good at start, since enemies are weaker, and the buff can let teammate kill them easily, once after level 5, war domain fall off badly, while other class get feat and second attack, and also later Cleric just dont have time to do melee attack, they need to do a lot of CC and spell damage, and war domain dont have any effective AOE damage or CC at all, so they end up cant kill anything and cant do extra domain cc spell as well. @zero11010 Жыл бұрын
@@violau8550 is it good at the start? What makes it good? The bar for good is two or more reliable attack per round. Nothing that uses a resource that goes away after a round. Anyone who dual wields has this (fighter and ranger). Monk has this. Rogue only has one attack but stacks a ton of damage (though, dual wield on a rogue is still an option). Ranger can do two attacks PLUS they have an animal that can attack PLUS all three of those attacks can get hunter’s mark damage for a potential +3D6 every round before level 5 (1D8+1D6+3, 1D8+1D6+3, 1D8+1D6+3, 2D6+4 … I’m pretty sure that’s one round of beast master at level 3 with hunter’s mark and it jumps up again at level 5-6 … this doesn’t include poisons or gear - caustic band is +6 damage per turn… plenty of low level items to increase damage per attack) So … what does war cleric offer? As far as I know great weapon master or sentinel isn’t a common level 4 choice. So, what is your war cleric doing from level 1-5? Keep in mind that ranger I was talking about shoots up to 5 reliable attacks per turn at either 5 or 6 when they get multi attack and the boar has a bonus action attack. All 5 of those attacks get hunter’s mark damage. Ranger is the bar for excellence. Maybe rogue is the bar for good with roughly 5D6 + 4 damage per turn. How far down the list is war cleric? It’s not as good as pure fighter or pure Paladin. I don’t think it’s as good as open fist monk. Cleric damage relies on spiritual weapon and spiritual guardians …. But those are resource intensive and force you to rest which makes it weaker. A cleric at level 8 with those things going on IS a powerhouse even if they only have one attack per round (two with spiritual weapon). But they can only do this three times a day.

I mean … keep the cleric you want and respec shadowheart. She’s great as a spore druid. If you want to try something different on her … you could do any of the classic BG3 powerhouses. All fighter, fighter/rogue, monk, monk/rogue. Beastmaster ranger is pretty crazy in this game … at level 6 you can have 5 attacks every round and all of those can benefit from hunter’s mark … that’s 5D6 per round damage potential with one 1st level spell slot that can potentially last for multiple fights. The biggest problem with beastmaster is that nothing really lives long enough to focus on it (Grym in act 1 died shortly into the second round without using the forge hammer and I think that’s the biggest damage soak in the first act). Bard is the best healer early game. Then that gets replaced with life cleric.

War domain is a trap in this game just like it is in the pen and paper game. You have to rest constantly to get anything out of that bonus attack. There are easier ways to deal extra damage without having so few available per day. The extra attack is what people are drawn to, but it’s a joke. Every cleric subclass gets something similar to the level 5 extra attack at level 8 (lesser, but similar). I think I would take the nature cleric as a melee combatant before war domain. I would definitely take life cleric (heavy armor combined with free self heals, best heals in the game, extra melee damage at level 8) before war domain.

Basically what you do is - Pick Soldier or Outlander as your background, which gives proficiency in Athletics and either Survival or Intimidation - Pick 2 WIS skills for proficiency at cleric 1 and two INT skills for expertise at level 1. e.g.: Insight, Medicine, Arcana and Nature - At level 1 Bard, take either the three DEX skills (Outlander) or the three CHA skills you don't yet have (Soldier) - At level 3 Bard, take Animal Handling, Perception and either a CHA skill of choice (Outlander) or Survival (Soldier). - Use Astral Knowledge and Knowledge of the Ages on INT and either DEX (Soldier) or CHA (Outlander).This gives you proficiency in all the skills! Spend the rest of the levels as you like. Ps: for some reason the WIS interaction in my game was bugged and only gave Animal handling. So It's more efficient to boost INT skills and either DEX or CHA skills. Once this is fixed though, get all DEX/CHA skills innately and obtain WIS + INT through Astral Knowledge instead.

It isn't that Clerics are not fun. They are -- but so is literally every class. And if you do mono sessions-- as in, single player only. "You have Shadowheart. And while her stats are weird, you can just have Withers fix it via reclass if you need to." Nothing wrong with having multiple clerics. But in terms of overworld/non combat... they don't really offer as much outside of flavor and specific insight. So having more than one, is almost limiting content to an extent. That being said. It's generally better to just have a mix of Classes for the party. But if it were a 4 player multiplayer session. "Then I could see some choosing to use one if the composition really needs it." Because there is a LOT, of very good viable options that do not depend on them. And the last thing anyone wants, is to feel forced into a class due to overlap of other roles. Likewise, there is nothing stopping anyone from doing an entire team of Clerics. There are ways to make it work. But like... In a casual playthrough. "Yeah, as somebody said, Shadowheart exist." Compare that, to the Origin companions not having a Bard, Paladin until Act 2 if you do a certain route, or a Druid, Bard, Sorcerer, A Ranger until way later. Generally, your mind will go. "I think I rather pick something, based on what isn't taken for the most level of interaction." It isn't even a "META" thing, it is just players generally gravitating to avoid overlap. I've seen brain dead responses in other threads addressing that too. "JuST RoLePlAy!" "Yeah, no shit. But that doesn't mean I, and many others are going to willingly awkwardly compose the team." And that makes people weirdly upset, because it isn't their version of roleplaying in a game. Because they want to treat it like it is the table top experience... in a rigid set of mechanics that suit a game better than the tabletop... and then get mad when people point out why that doesn't exactly work. Because this game, while it has social solutions... is very combat orientated too. You have to be able to do things well to progress, and breaking that to them shatters their mind. tl;dr. "People probably generally gravitate to the choices available to them knowing what most of the characters start as, and do not want to take away or overlap on classes so everyone has a clear role identity or niche. Because Shadowheart exist for example, making your main character a cleric might seem redundant even if viable. You'll get to feel what it's like to play one by utilizing the entire party, so people will go for the ones that might be more freely open like a Bard, Sorcerer, monk for example do not have companions attached to them. Druid, Paladin, Ranger, come waaay later, so you have less to worry about in terms of overlap. Obviously at the end of the day, do what you want. But the general experience will be to try to keep things diverse for your party."

Between Action surge and war priest, you can get 3 greataxe attacks at level 3, which is a good nova for how early of a level you get it. I’d like to mention that if you are a light cleric and take the spell sniper feat you can pick up eldritch blast as a cleric cantrip and still have the potent spell casting modifier be added to it while also still getting all beams from leveling. It is very powerful if your cleric doesn’t have martial proficiency from multiclassing and can’t use heavy bows and longbows.
@brandobond Жыл бұрын
If you multiclass with Warlock after doing that and take agonizing blast what happens? Can you add your wisdom and charisma modifier to the blasts? Or would it change your eldritch blast spell type from cleric to warlock?
@viimmdlii7516 Жыл бұрын
@@brandobond I haven’t tested it but even if you could it would be very sub-optimal. You don’t need or want to spec a cleric into charisma at least none more than 12. You need to get to cleric level 8 to get potent spellcasting, which means you would be axeing your self out of a 3rd feat if you were to multiclass for a plus one to damage on eldritch blast at that point just play a sorcerer and pickup eldritch blast from 2 levels of warlock and you will get the same or more damage than the cleric can do with it. The main multiclass I recommend for light cleric is 10 lvls into light cleric and 2 into oathbreaker paladin with both feats being resilient concentration and then spell sniper for the eldritch blast. Walk at your enemies with spirit guardians popped, smite them if they are close, use spells and eldritch blast when they are far. Build is devastating on its own. Currently I’m in act 3 on a solo run with this build and haven’t had any problems yet.

I play her solely as support character for maintaining concentration type buffs on my party (Bless). What works best for me is 10 Str .,14 Dex., 14 Con., 10 Int., 17 Wis., 10 Cha. In this way I can max out Wisdom with only one feat and certain witch quest reward. And have 2 more feats to play around with. I equip her with the boots of striding to offset the lack of strength when enemies try to push her around. I choose War Caster for my second cantrip, if anyone decides to attack her it is a bit harder to brake her concentration. The third feat is open for variety of options Shield master for AOE defense, Lucky for overall survivability, Spell Sniper for a little bit more offensive style of play...

Personally, I don't see much of a point in playing a Tav-Cleric what with SH being one of the earliest companions you can recruit, so this applies mostly to her: My go-to mode of play with her is to grab Withers as early as possible, then respecc her to Life. While Trickery certainly seems to fit both her personality and personal history a bit better, I think it's one of the weaker domains available - though I haven't tried all of them. I find that only Life *truly* excels at making the Cleric a competent healer - even with all the healing-supporting gear available, non-Life clerics simply aren't that great at keeping the party alive. This really takes off once you reach level 3 spells for Mass Healing ability. Also add in Zevlor's Hellrider gloves and Whispering Promise for automatic buffs anytime you heal someone. I am reminded of the superiority of Life WRT healing whenever I go for the second step in my SH-routine by respeccing her to Light once she changes her hair-color. Suddenly she's a lot more powerful on offense, but very underwhelming when using healing to correct tactical errors I may have made in combat.. :) My one reason for going Life and then sticking with it for a long time in all my play-throughs is that she managed to save my honor-mode run because of it. Encounter with the Gith patrol went *very* wrong and the entire party except for SH was downed. She actually managed to bring two characters back and then support them well enough to turn the fight around and win it.

3:51 AFAIK, what matters is the alignment of your deity. If you go to that one church in Baldur's Gate where you can place offerings to different deities, you'll notice that the list comprises all of the deities that clerics can pick (except that you can't pick Shar, and Vlaakith you can pick but isn't there). And they're all divided in three alignments: good, neutral and evil. That's what matters for the cleric deity decision, as far as I know. Your deities' alignment. As I said before, the only one I can't speak for is Vlaakith. You can choose her as a Gith'Yanki Cleric only, and I assume she's evil, but she's the only one that we can't know for sure unless you play a good, a neutral and an evil cleric and then compare them to Vlaakith. Regardless, that requires you to play the most impopular class and the most impopular race so it's probably very niche. Even Laduger is on the list, which is exclusive for Duergar Clerics. But not Vlaakith.
@V3x0r Жыл бұрын
My first playthrough was a Githyanki War Cleric devoted to Vlaakith because I wanted the full Lae'zel experience. Vlaakith is 100% evil and is technically not a deity but is treated as one. Cleric wasn't popular because everyone seems to love Shadowheart who is deeply tied to her class via her personal story so respecing her out of cleric feels weird.

@zero11010 Жыл бұрын
Definitely try playing without one at some point. Clerics are great. So great they can become a crutch that prevents you from appreciating what others offer. For example bard is the best healer in the early game until life cleric stuff fully comes online. Spore druid can take what cleric offers with spiritual weapon and turn that up to 11 while still being able to throw out the heals. I don’t think anything in the game can match the utility of a lore bard. Plenty of crowd control, plenty of battlefield manipulation, the best healing spells in the game thanks to magic secrets, cutting words which can force a miss or force an enemy to fail a key saving throw, and counter spell to reject impactful enemy spells outright.
@mofogie Жыл бұрын
Druid is better than cleric imo. You have similar utility but the druid can have the insanely good water myrmidon, (two at once even), and also the very useful owlbear and sabre tooth.
@zero11010 Жыл бұрын
@@mofogie the tempest cleric with or without storm sorcerer is a major powerhouse. Light cleric is also a big deal. Life cleric is more support focused, but is a huge addition to the game with a channel divinity that basically heals as much as a short rest … and you get 6-8 of those per long rest depending on if you have a bard (which means if you include the short rest heals you have 11 short rests worth of healing per long rest … without spell slots). You can learn scrolls and keep the spells you learnt if you respecc with at least 1 level allocated to wizard. You can make alot of combos like misty step with spirit guardians. Or tempest cleric with haste. Or just bless and go sanctuary to forever protect your concentration although unable to attack. Very cool.
@zero11010 Жыл бұрын
But, all the spells you learn from scrolls would be intelligence based. And if you don’t focus intelligence then you have low accuracy and a low saving throw. That trick is amazing, but only for really situational stuff. Right? You can learn the wizard tower super evocation spells in act 3 … but what’s your save DC? Targets will always save and only take half damage … half an amazing wizard spell is still less than the top tier cleric spells (I think … haven’t done the math … can’t imagine cleric spells are less than half a wizard spell).
@sd_q3st3r Жыл бұрын
@zero11010 yeah , it would be intelligence based. And you have destructive wrath to ignore all of that. That's kinda asking too much to make just 1 level of wizard be your damage class. Even for pure utility it's already very useful. Haste alone gives you two actions. That one relies on concentration. Misty step doesnt rely on anything and you have teleport. I mean you're a wizard, Harry, you have access to the most amount of spells in game.
@zero11010 Жыл бұрын
@@sd_q3st3r for things like shield, magic missile, summon familiar, long strider, jump, feather fall it’s perfectly fine. I would bet money that for summons it’s ok. There are scrolls for flaming sphere and elementals and planar ally. It may be possible to make a late game warlock fun with this. A bunch of ritual spells would be something. And, you could cheese the divine inspiration to get a ton of 4th level spell slots that are permanent. Each of those would recharge on short rest. You’d be able to use those on wizard spells you learned though, you’d want to stick to spells that level up (not the shield spell I suggested). Though, I think it’s lame to take advantage of the divine inspirations.

I'm thinking if you wanted to play Tav as a cleric and do "party face" things, knowledge domain with maybe a few points into charisma could get you there. He wouldn't be as good at social checks as a full charisma class, but he wouldn't be terrible at it. Or I guess, you could make a knowledge domain cleric a stealthy lockpick type too, if you wanted. Seems a knowledge domain cleric can really just be that skill monkey, especially if it's also a Gith.
@zero11010 Жыл бұрын
Sounds like you should make a bard. Party face, lock picker, healer, debuffer, and they can be built to work in melee combat or ranged combat if you want to do that instead of spells (two attacks per round with 4 flourishes that recharge on short rest is WAY better than the lame war domain people are drawn to).

Please do a full fighter guide next! I wanna go full fighter and have it not suck.
@zero11010 Жыл бұрын
There is pretty much no way to go full fighter and have it be bad. You’d have to try to make something bad. Dual wield? Sure! Strength based weapons works. So do dexterity based. You can even use dual crossbows. Great weapon? Sure! That works. Polearm? That works really well. Archer with long bow? That’s fantastic, and still works great with a pair of hand crossbows. Single weapon for dualist? This works great. The sword and board combat style is great. And, the act 3 legendary rapier is AMAZING (have to lose the shield though) but you can do 6 attacks per round without using ANY resources. Champion fighter requires no thought. It’s just extra crit range. This is decent at low level. In act 3 this gets a huge boost because there is a ton of crit chance gear. You can crit on 15-20. Battlemaster is famously wonderful. Think of the maneuvers like spells that recharge on short rest. Disarm trivializes enemies. Giving attackers disadvantage to attack you is huge. Knocking enemies prone to get advantage can be one of the biggest damage buffs for the party in the whole game. It has one of the only taunts in the game. It’s great. Eldritch knight I’ve not experimented with. There is gear that was clearly designed with them in mind. But, at late level you’ll attack 3 times with your attack action. It uses no resources. You can do it all day … I’ve got a hard time wanting to replace that with a spell slot that is going to force me to rest sooner. Gotta reiterate … people like war cleric because you get a couple of turns out of the whole day where you get one extra attack (it’s a joke). You get three attacks per action with a fighter. +3 with haste. +3 with action surge. +3 with bloodlust elixir which can last for an entire act if you don’t rest after every fight like a baby. That’s 12 attacks in a single round … plus a potential bonus attack. Plus a potential reaction attack. And that legendary rapier technically gives you a free extra attack and also gives you a free extra reaction which can also be turned into an attack with things like mage slayer and sentinel. Fighter is god tier. Do phenomenal damage and …just don’t need to rest ever. You could do the whole third act in zero to one rests if you wanted. Every boss fight. The most accurate build you can do is likely a Halfling crit focused build with dual wield or sword and board.
@TheRoboblaster Жыл бұрын
@zero11010 Holy crap! I knew fighter was good, bit hot damn thats awesome. Ive seen so many builds focus on crazy multi-class combos or just saying how great spells are. @zero11010 Жыл бұрын
@@TheRoboblasterMost people who talk about the game have no idea what they're talking about. The game is VERY easy, and generally, it's well balanced. This means you can feel powerful with almost anything going on. Fighter is a major powerhouse. Don't feel bad about respecing often. Try a strength battlemaster fighter with great weapons ... try it differently with polearm master and sentinel (it does a tiny bit less damage power attack, but it gets more attacks per round with reactions to balance that out). Try a dual wield strength based fighter dual wielding big 1 handed weapons. When you do this you can either go 12 fiighter or 8 fighter and 4 rogue (one gets you three mainhand attacks and one offhand, the other gets you two of each). Try a dexterity based fighter. Go with light armor or one of the two medium armors in the game that let you apply your full dexternity bonus on top of your armor. This can work with dual wield ... this can also work with a bow or crossbow as yoru primary weapon. Bows tend to have better on weapon hit effects than melee weapons to make up for the fact that you'll be missing out on a bonus attack with them. But, dual wielding hand crossbows is a whole other thing. If you do this it becomes an option to dual wield daggers or short swords, and also dual wield hand crossbows. You'll find the versatility of being able to shoot the crossbow once or twice at range before or after getting into melee and using your melee weapons is very useful. If you're not using great weapons ... the racial bonus from halfling is the best in the game (accuracy counts for more damage than even the half-orc crit damage ... I've not done the math on the super crit options that crit on 15+ or 16+ ... those may start to favor half orc. But, halfling rerolling 1 is a big deal ... more so on a main character who is also doing dialog and picking locks. Speaking of picking locks ... if you're a dexterity based fighter with a background that gives you slight of hand ... your fighter can absolutely be the party lock picker. High dexterity, proficiency, and guidance are all you need for the game. Like I said before ... I've not experimented with Eldritch Knight ... I imagine they're fun also. I just haven't tried them ... And this is just fighter ... rogue is great. Monk is amazing. Beast master ranger is CRAZY good. All three of the druid options are very good and they all play very differently. Several types of cleric are great ... tempest, life and even light are very strong. Bard is crazy powerful. At low levels the bard is the best healer in the game because the cap of curing in act 1 turns all your bardic inspirations into extra healing words. This gives them a TON of extra healing and at later levels these recharge on short rest .... so you have 16 of them per day. Bard is the best main character by a lot. Halfling bard and you win all the dialog, heal the party, pick all the locks, manipulate the battlefiend and CC the enemies, counter enemy spells, and with college of lore you have the best support feature in the game, and the other colleges give the bard some ability to do more damage in combat .... but even without those if your bard does EVERYTHING else your other three party members only have to focus on death.

For me only really needed a Cleric up to some time in act 2. After that not so much. My builds are strong (including a mage then that can do AOEs) usually kill most battles in a few turns, pots become so plentiful, and the healing really doesn't scale so well with how much HP the party members have later on. I keep Shadowheart as a Cleric for at least the story of course. but it becomes time to turn her into more of an additional Damage dealer and buffer for act 3.

I suppose it's what ever you want out of the game also. One thing I notice is that you want to adjust a lot. Try different things, adjust to what gear you get, etc. Maybe you just want to make it a goal to see if you can kill everything in one turn and make 4x Wizards (or other crazy builds that let you do 8 actions). Thinking more, the comparison is that early on a Shadowheart heal at first would say heal maybe over 50% HP in early levels. Even "Mass Cure Wounds" now does a fraction of the max HP of say Karlatch.
