And Vincent needed you to do a list of very specific task to unlock him which involved back tracking to areas you would otherwise have no reason to re-visit. 90's games you really had to use your wit. Or you'll miss out on so much.

Vincent basically just required the combo lock puzzle in the Shinra manor which gave a summon materia as well (Odin I think) and the basement key, though getting Death Penalty and Chaos was INFINITELY nicer than Yuffie (and Barret's since they both have the cutoff of the Midgar raid) since she requires the Turks to be active to start the Wutai subquest.

I just feel like she has a lot more personality than some of the other cast. For example Tifa is almost always “the perfect girl” she has like no character flaws which makes her less interesting to me. Similar deal with Aerith.

It's one of her original lines in the original. She calls cloud that when first meeting him. In fact, a neat little *almost* Easter egg is that all of these dialogue choices are the original ones and yuffie was only recruit able if you choose very specific ones in a certain order. If you choose the same order, they're the ones that get yuffie's max relationship points in rebirth. It's a neat little throwback.

I think the developers did an incredibly good job with Yuffie in this game. In the original I never used her and actually found her a bit of annoying, relatively unimportant character. Rebirth did brilliantly portraying her as the endearing kid sister of the group, stronger than she looks but occasionally dopey too. IMO the perfect balance to empathetic Tifa and mystical Aerith. Fantastic.

Yuffie is the best magic user behind Aerith in OG. Best team comp for discs 2 and 3 imo is Cloud, Yuffie, and Barrett. Make Yuffie your materia slave, Barrett is your tank with cover-all, enemy skill, etc. and give cloud long range, deathblow, 4x cut (I think that's what it's called) etc. and it's gg for most bosses.

If she were optional, they'd either have to make her an almost non-entity in cutscenes, or do two different versions of every cutscene after her joining, and two different versions of certain entire sections of the game. It'd add way too much budget bloat for far too little gain to the game's quality. The original's lack of voice acting and relative lack of character development (not saying there isn't any, but it isn't near as much of a focus as it is in the remake trilogy) means they could afford optional characters, especially given the "drag and drop whoever happens to be in your party, and give them one or two lines" nature of most cutscenes.

People didnt believe me cause when you see yuffie at all she steals all your materia and you have to find her But you have a chance not to ever see her unless you really grind world map battles (ff7 doesnt need any grinding at all to finish)
