Hey bud, Hatake here! As discussed, the Crystal Bass that cap at 35 in Jugner Forest J-9 have been fantastic to me! No other fish if you use a Halcyon Rod and a Minnow, a few mobs and a few items but not much! Highly recommend

very good advice for skill up. Only thing to keep in mind, at lv 27 it gave me ''bad feeling'' wearing full fishing set, and my line broke twice :( not sure why as it shouldnt happen. I was using Carbon rod, so maybe thats the reason

@@zarbrawl Carbon rod is the reason. I switched to Halcyon and didn't have one bad feeling at same fishing lv 27. Bad thing about this camp is that the bass can't be sold to NPCs

I wish I skilled up on Crystal Bass instead of Nosteau Herring. Even the Zalmfung Bass were better to me than Nosteau Herring. I intend to switch to Black Eels instead of the Nosteau Herrings

Just an update for the Silver Sharks. They offer good skill ups but without fishing support I wouldn't recommend them before 62. Can NPC them for about 5k a stack.

i find kightwell near sandy is best spot for lvl 1-10, then 11 - 20 at Bloodlet Springs in Yhotar Jungle usign same set up as knightwell to catch forest carp, which sell just as good as moat carp, also love the choice of music

Is there really a big benefit to getting a Lu Shangs or Ebisu considering the time investment? I had fished to 100 before with Composite/Halcyon, barely lost any lures, and I just never fathomed that time being worth it to throw in Lu Shang grind too. I can never find a comparison between the rods like are you make money twice as fast? I'm also aware that Ebisu lets you enter the pyramid scheme where your purpose is to just bazaar fish so people can get their own Ebisu and they in turn do the same thing.

nice guide, i found little worms are a complete waste of time starting out fishing moat carp and should wait until you can afford insect balls at least, saves you fishing out all that worthless crayfish and get more carp instead difference is huge

@@zarbrawl buburimu peninsula upto level 53 with halcyon/lushang and robber rig is optimal for shall shells Nebimintes go to 27 with extreme skill ups in retail and other private servers. Halcyon with shrimp lure/crayfish ball in mhaura/Selbina ship or best sea serpent grotto but very dangerous without sneak and high level Grimmonites also skill up fast to 90 in same place as sea serpent grotto but u most likely need lushang with shrimp lure/crayfish ball

Crescent Fish took me forever to get through at East Saru Lake. Made some good gil there though, but damn that was like over a month of fishing. I thought fishing just took a longer time to level 60+ but nope, the slog was just the skillup rate off those Crescent Fish. I started Silver Sharks at 66.8 with Fishing Gear and within 90mins of fishing I went 66.8 yo 68.4 (1 single stack of meatballs).

I found for that 11-20+ slog getting to 13 then throwing on Fishing gear helps catch Tricolored Carp. I do it in Sandy and get Moat Carps as well as great skill ups on Tricolored that I NPC for 57/each.

I've blown through almost an entire stack of little worms and gotten a total of 1 1/2 stacks of moat carps and a few stacks of crayfish. That's it. Most of my fishing results are "you didn't catch anything," "you lost your catch due to your lack of skill," or "your line breaks." I'm only level 1 fishing, and skillups are coming so slowly that it feels like I'm going backwards sometimes. Fastwater rod + little worms in Northern Sandy is where I'm at.

worm works but ideally you nee o0ne piece of fishing gear. some fish are lv 11, so you wont be able to reel in at lv 0. Now that you have a level, you shouldnt see the lack of skill message. but yes, insect paste is optimal.

Late game not sure, but having cooking up to 13 def makes fishing sardines and tiger cod a lot more worth it. Cod especially is nice gil and since it's NPCed you get your money right away

I keep losing fish due to lack of skill at level 0. I bought a bamboo rod and am using insect balls in San d'oria but I always get a "terrible feeling" and then lose the catch due to lack of skill..

you need at least one piece of fishing gear as the carps are lv 11. You can catch fish 10 lvls above, so you really need something to give you that 1 point in fishing. Either gloves, legs, body or hands will do and solve your issue. Hope this helps.

Red terrapin in knightwell from 39-43 then gold carp. Both of those sell for 3600 stack to npc and the turtles are expensive on AH.

What is the difference in switching a bamboo rod for a carbon/halcyon rod exactly? Is it just that those rods won’t break, or does it actually increase your chance of catching carps?

In my experience, Carbon/Halcyon rods actually make catching carps more time-consuming (it takes longer to complete the "arrows" minigame with them) stick to the Bamboo/Wooden rods if fishing Moat Carps for money/skill ups.

Update: Crescent fish don't have a chance of breaking your line. I've been fishing them for 2 days and still have the first fly lure I bought. Without a lu shangs. That rod is a waste of time, ebisu is easier to get

later fish sell for a lot more to NPC, so instant gil. Also, at higher lvls yuo dont even need to do the fishing minigame, the stamina bar depleates on its own, making it much faster/easier.

How is the server looking so far? I'm toying with making a comeback, 20 years later lol Or should I just go retail? Seems that would be way easier to lv up etc... But I REALLY loved the old FFXI play style, the lving parties, the difficulty... In the end what really forced me out was the economy and the gil farmers made it impossible to do anything. I personnally tried again and again to get back into FFXI Retail, but the game is SO different then yhat you will remember from 20 years ago. Not bad, but different. Ive tried on many occasions to get into it, like i really WANTED to like it... but i end up getting bored of it quickly. This server is a lot more in line from the 75 classic era, and has a very large community, making it truly feel autenthic. If you dont have too much time to play in general, retail might be better, but personally i prefer and always will prefer the 75 era.

The fish pool depletes every now and then and for a little bit that’s all you’ll be able to fish up. With little worms it’s a rough trip to 11, honestly just gotta push through it. Just spam cities and whenever you can, switch to insect paste.

so the ''feel'' for a subligar is very different then a carp. When you do the arrow minigame, subligar will fill the bar super quick or even deplete on its own. When i see that, i cancel my line as its worthless and will just use inventory space. once you fish a few carps, youll know how they deplete and then you can cancel everything else. Also, use Insect paste if you can, much higher chance

@@brohemian I’m actually not sure of the specifics, but there’s a fishing thread in the crafting channel on the horizon discord, and if you scroll way back aerec talks about it a good bit, but I’m pretty sure it’s along the lines of 36 fish or so every now and then, and it’s random. so if you have no competition on a certain pool I’m sure you’d never have to wait for it to restock or even notice it doing so, at places like Knightwell in ronfaure it’s very noticeable, all 20+ people fishing there will pull 1 or 2 moat carp and then it dries up, and people will only be able to reel in other fish or rusty items for the next 2-15 minutes until suddenly people start reeling in most carp again, the cycle repeats. Edit: I advise taking my words with a grain of salt and referring to the fishing discord, aerec is a dev so pretty sure anything he posts in there is factual.

I wouldn't suggest nosteau herring. For every 1 herring I get, I get at least a stack and a half of cod. Barely any skillups. Would suggest getting advanced support and fishing the ogre or gold lobsters. Herring is NOT the best bet
