I kind of have a hypothesis on why Coerthas is the way it is. There is an aetheryte near the southwestern side of the map that is inside of a frozen cave. Now since Bahamut destroyed a whole area, one can assume that the destruction he brought caused a lot of ground shaking, and may have opened up a once frozen cave that trapped this aetheryte and as the cave opened it released a gust of cold and keeps doing so, turning Coerthas into a popsicle. Of course this is just from an idea that the primal aetherytes have some kind of effect on the area in which they preside.

A better hypothesis would be that it's Shiva's power freezing the land perpetually. I mean, story-wise we've only just found out about the "heretics" commanded by one Iceheart. She and her zealots could easily be the reason for Coerthas' undying winter. That, and the massive corrupted crystal formation in Boulder Downs can make sense, though...

if i remember correctly on the way to find lady iceheart, the heretic we fought said something about get the crystals. it was on the screen briefly when they pop up. i'll have to do the mission on a different character to know for sure. when i saw that, i was like yep shiva next.

Now, I say this only basing my theory off FFT. Elidibus will be the avatar/host of Zodiark. because he is the serpentarius lucavi in tactics, and is the only one in the game to have the power to summon Zodiark for the player to learn the skill. on top of this all of the ascians are named after the scion's of light from FF12(except for Altima). both games take place the world of ivalice.

One thing that caught my attention during the back half of 2.3 is that Haurchefant seemed somewhat... fanatical in comparison to our dealings with him earlier on. Something isn't right there.

Fenrir is a wolf, and wolves are known to how at the moon, and Dalamud was a "moon", so do you suppose that Fenrir will have more to do with the entry into this world of darkness for his story? What kind of element could they possibly assign to him? I'm having trouble figuring out what abilities he would have, but maybe letting my imagination run wild is better?

I think if we get a patch 2.6 it will go like this: 2.4 Shiva 2.5 Omega weapon 2.6 Zodiark I mean if Zodiark is like a god to rival Hydlean which I consider to be like the god of the other gods (E.G. Ifrit) Then it sort of fits the Final fantasy trend of fighting a god at the end of the series (E.G. Kefka in 6, Bhunevlize what ever his name is in LR)

Oh my god. If we get Shiva, Omega Weapon, and Fenrir, including Zodiark, the expansion of Coerthas along with the ending of Binding Coil, that's already so much to bargain with. If all of that is covered in 2.4 and 2.5, I can't imagine what else is in store for us. I know our main focus will later shift towards the Garlean Empire, but I wonder if that will be the MAIN story to focus on. Is it the Garlean Empire, or is it the Allagan Empire? Will it be the Ascians still? So many questions.

Funny thing about Garlean Empire and 1st expansion... We have yet to fight the Garlean Army full force yet being their Airship Armada and Yoshi-P mentioned 1st expansion theme will involve looking to the Sky. Along with back before FF14ARR release Yoshi-P did mentioned we will eventually obtain our own Personal Airship and FCs will be able to make a Larger FC size Airship.

--We get Shiva. We also get a new class. Or, if Yoshi's being seekritzive, two. --I don't feel certain about Omega Weapon in 2.4, but 2.5 may be possible depending on how the Carteneau/Teledji Adelji story arc plays out. --Fenrir isn't a primal hinted at, so *I* don't expect him/it in either of the next two major patches. --Zodiark's been built up to, and I have a really good hunch as to how the Ascians plan on bringing him back. They've been seeking a way to harness all six aetherial elements into one gathering for his summoning. This specifically required the Ascians to have primals of those elements summoned. So yeah, Shiva's going to be story-important, we're definitely getting her. We *may* get Zodiark's battle in a future patch, closer to the expansion, or we may get it in 2.5, I honestly want to see how the story goes with this part. --Third Coil of Bahamut. Oh, where can we expect to see this place? Did you say Coerthas is *expanding*? We might end up having to go there for it. I mean, if La Noscea had part of the Ragnarok, and so did the Black Shroud, it's possible that the last part of the ship is in the western highlands that are presently sealed off by a wall of ice. Or they could just find some way to park it in Thanalan, though I haven't seen any areas that could even hint at...well, maybe I've seen *one* spot in Thanalan where it can be, but otherwise I doubt it will be anywhere else. --With the exception of the Battle of Silvertear Lake, the Meteor Project, and the Ultima Weapon, the Garleans have only brought mere skirmishes of their power to Eorzea. They have not yet even become their full menace. --The Allagan Empire's most significant lore is Crystal Tower. There may be others, but after fighting Cloud of Darkness, I doubt we'll see anything else beyond Omega (and I MEAN Omega, not Ultima) Weapon for a while. --If the Ascians ever manage to become a threat again after Zodiark, that will be a surprising twist. So most likely our main story is going to change toward the Garleans for a while after dealing with these dangers. I mean, we have the mystery behind the destruction of an island that was under the claim of Sharlayan. Something story-wise is going to end up with the Doman refugees, too.

I think Shiva for 2.4 and Omega Weapon for 2.5. Considering that Coil will end in 2.4 and Crystal Tower comes to its conclusion 2.5, I’m kind of having strong doubts that there will be a 2.6. And maybe stopping Omega Weapon won’t prevent Zodiark’s coming and it will finally be awaken at the end of 2.5 marking the end of the “2.0 Saga”. Considering Yoshi said the 2.0 storyline will end with a huge event happening, but not as terrible as Bahamut blowing everything up again lol, I could see this happening. >.> Considering the Ascians are named after the Scions of Light from Ivalice lore, perhaps Zodiark might have his own set of primal creatures, I mean it might be possible considering Tristan Nightflicker received the Belias-Egi from the Ascians in the level 50 SMN quest. So maybe the Ascians/Zodiark might be the villains and Zodi's possible espers/lucavi (Belias, Mateus, Adramelech, Chaos, Famrit, and Hashmal) will be the “primal type” bosses for 3.0. And maybe the adventurer needing to awaken Fenrir will play an important role in it. Or maybe I’m thinking too hard and farfetched on this lol.@.@

Eh...I've got 26 lines of conjecture in a reply higher on the comment thread. I still think Omega in 2.5 is pulling a little fast. We're only halfway through the story until the expansion. There is a good chance of a 2.6. There is even a good chance that they'll start building up the Garleans as a greater threat again with 2.7 - 2.9. All as a lead-up to this "huge event". "PLEASE BE EXCITED."

The way I see it is Alphinaud is setting up to be the big bad guy. I'm expecting a huge betrayal after he sets up his army and then killing some major NPC's (Minfilia). The reason i'm expecting this is because it wouldn't be be a Final Fantasy without a big plot twist/betrayal. Alphinaud is going to be found as one of the leaders of the Ascians and release the Zodiark. There has to be a reason he wanted Mor Dhona as a base of operations (Closer to Bahamut and Coerthas as of recent story). Well that's just my theory. I never trust my strong witted FF character NPCs.

We've already been on top of Crystal Tower on this patch, and it's essentially the FF3 story molded into FFXIV lore. Next step has to be the Dark World and the fights against Ahriman, Cerberus, Two-headed Dragon, and Echidna, finishing with the Cloud of Darkness

My biggest thing against the world in this game is, while it looks amazing, it's way too small. I really hope Coerthas opens up more. I really want to see the rest of the area as I've never seen it in 1.x :(

I still have a crack pot hypothesis that Primals were originally living beings that obtained echos and by use the echos turned themselves into the Primals we know now.

Cheese Muffin correction they are only explained through current knowledge about Primals. However, current 2.X storyline has begun to leave question about what people truely know about the Echo, Primals, Ascians, and how all three are related to each other with 2.1 mention a "truth" behind what Echo users really are, 2.2 revealing Echo users ability to defy the birth and rebirth cycle, and 2.3 storyline explaining the Birth and Rebirth cycle of People, Ascians, and Primals. There is still much we don't know about Primals in the FF14 world and 2.X events have already shown there is a link between Echo users, Ascians and Primals.

PonyGamerWriter My hypothesis about Zodiark is that Zodiark is a alter ego of Hydaelyn that takes over if Hydaelyn becomes too weak. It mostly comes from how we were given a image of a Corrupt Mother Crystal at the end of 2.0, Ascian main goal involves weakening Hydaelyn, and how Hydaelyn been very quite through out 2.X. But it just a hypothesis and we will be given the truth very soon since the Ascians are now in the final stage of their plan to fully awaken Zodiark which is to make Ishgard go into all out war (which is hinted to happen in 2.4)

You can't really compare the 2 dragons ff14 went with that because it was to restart the game as it was a pile of shit at the time and deathwing had already done so much before he riped apart parts of azaroth on top of that the only way to stop him was to do some goofy time traveling to reclaim the dragon soul
