Just a little addition, make sure to uncheck the "Naturally darken the edges of the screen" box, if you want to avoid the "Limb Darkening" effect, that is toggled by default on the maximum preset.

Also keep in mind if you are using any mods or files which upscale the armor/clothing to higher resolution, it will be affected by the low-detail model setting. So characters who are far away from you might appear to have missing body parts.

Nice summary, thank you. Two things I set up in Windows: 1.) Win 11 Auto HDR. Basically removed all my need for filters. 2.) Especially for 1080P and 1440P users: In the Nvidia Control panel activate the DSR Factors 1.78x DL and 2.25x DL. This gives you the option in game to render at HIGHEr resolutions then your monitor. For example on an 1440P screen you can render at 4K (you can select the higher resolution in game in the menu). That image is taken and downscaled via Filtering and the Nvidia AI-cores to your screen. It looks SO CLEAN. of course it costs performance. +78% on the first option, +125% on the second. So only recommended when you have massive head room for your GPU usage.

i tried turning this on in the control panel in the global settings and didn't see a difference with it on or off, and i didn't see it as an option for the ff14 exe

Disabling Parallax Occlusion also changes the wall textures, similar to reducing the SSAO from HBAO+: Quality to Light. "Fixes" the floor but messes everything else. And SSAO has a bigger impact than PO, so you better work on SSAO instead.

HBAO murders frames in this game don't think it was optimized correctly but it looks too good not to turn off. Even better when you slap on some reshade HBAO on top.

Yeah MXAO is definitely, a graphical uplift, the native one affecting buildings and Environment more, the Gshade/ReShade one going stronger on characters and NPCs/Monsters

With my crappy 60Hz panel, I cap my game at 120FPS, but I also enable Radeon Chill, which drops the frame rate when I am not moving the mouse or pressing any keys - aka truly idling - to the 60FPS my monitor supports. This helps keeping the GPU to stay always below 50C, reduces power consumption while all bells and whistles are turned on.

something that he didn't talk about in this video that is insanely important is the frame rate setting under display. don't ever use it, even if your on a low end pc. just never ever ever ever use it

The in game limiter gives bad frame times. Which means it stutters a lot. Use msi afterburner and rivatuner to limit fps to match your monitors refresh rate, well usually a few fps below.

I'm using some presets in ReShade, but the GPU consumption went from 35% to 80%! But the game has changed, the shadows and vegetation are excellent

I know the price point is way out there for most, but a spec'ed out M3 MacBook Pro runs XIV on full max settings like butter. I have an M2 MacBook Air I keep meaning to test it on as well, but in terms of laptop performance, the M series of MacBooks is killing it in performance.

I am the type who likes to full on potato my games at times. Not even solely for performance, I just think it's interesting to see how low I can set the quality of a game while still having it playable. Honestly wish I could trash the graphics in this game more than I can. For an example, game devs like to say glare or bloom enhance the visuals, and while I see the idea, spectacle lighting, it's very easy for it to just not mesh well. I like those sorts of things more when set to contrast with low graphics, highly technical settings, mixed with high performance settings.

I play on a GTX 960 and get solid 60 fps except when lots of stuff is on screen but it only drops to low 50's

Did you know if the 4090 is able to keep a flat 60fps 0.1% low when locked to 60fps using RTSS in 4K Maximum settings ?! I mean even in Friday Night Limsa or 64 player raid. BTW What is the most intense raid that typicaly constantly drop framerate. It's been a long time and want to upgrade for the 7.0 but i would rather wait for a 5090 if the 40' serie can't achieve that flawlessly.Thx

4060 is really the only bang for buck, especially as it grants access to DLS 3.0 for under 350 Bucks. (Which FFXIV doesn't utizilize yet) but for other games that do, especially "slow" storygames. It ls a game changer. For FFXIV Raw performance, I would recommend going for a used RTX 2080. Here in Germany you can get them for around 240 bucks and they offer a decent performance edge compared to the 300-350$ 4060. But the 4060 is of course, more versatile 👍

Literally the two games I play the majority of the time is XIV and Link to the Past (Randomizer) but I am likely going to see a big difference with Firmament as well which is on my to play list (since they fixed the story bug which happened when I first played it.).

Are there any settings that might improve CPU performance? My CPU struggles to keep up with my GPU in cities.

Frames tank in Cities, regardless of the Hardware, that is due to server code and limitations. As of now you can only get the strongest possible CPU with high Single Core performance, but even with my 13900k it will drops in big crowds (A Rank Trains, Cities, etc.)

Try messing around with the shadows settings. Shadows are usually cpu intensive regardless of the game

It worked for me until it wasn't necessary anymore having the 4090. The special K mod Treats Borderless Windowed Mode like fullscreen. You just have to input the right file into your games Folder and make it work in the way the reddit post talks about. Its a bit Tricky, but it did work wonders for me 👍

My main issue is pixel crawling. Its hard to explain but its where lines move from one side to another whilst moving my character, i know it has to do with anti-aliasing but i've never found a fix for this issue. All i know is that i play on 1080p with maxed settings, my gf plays on 1440p or higher and doesn't have the issue (seems like higher res fixes or atleast makes the effect less) Does anyone have any fix for this?

You have a 13900k like me and a 4090. I have a 4070ti. Are you running shaders or something in this video? I am getting 292-305 fps in the same spot in game on maximum. I’m guessing it’s lower because you’re recording? Thumbnail says 570+ but you didn’t really show that in game from what I saw. Tbh… idk why what I’m asking even matters because I like to keep things up as much as possible besides the character shadows and a few other things. Anyway, thanks for the Vid.
