FFXIV Community's 'Lore x Role Play' Story Time!

This is going to be a weird experiment so don't be surprised if there's growing pains. But despite the extra work I'm very excited to try engaging with the FFXIV Community in ways I've yet to try! So be sure to do your part in bringing my your juiciest stories!

This makes my heart ache. one of the main motivators for my adventures through Eorzea was through the lens of roleplay; the ways unto which interactions would go and how bits and bobs of headcanon eventually got to blossom into full-on vindication thanks to details the story team gave us down the road. telling my story or the story of my friends during those halcyon days would be so wonderful, but... I feel like you have cast open the sluice here, Scribe. you will get so many stories, and so many of those are probably far more structured than the individual stories I could tell about the Welcome Inn on Faerie or the adventures of a lalafellin lass from a rural part of Old Sharlayan called Thamasa, who wielded a brush that painted with the colors of Aether.

One instance of FFXIV rp lore I like to share when appropriate was the time my party went on to defeat an Illegal Illuminate Dye factory! During the fight however I rolled bad on an acrobatics check and my Au Ra fell into a Dye storage causing my inner Glamour fanatic to go havoc... We then threw the big bad into this same dye storage upon defeat turned the bad in and I was cursed with Dye Roulette! Fun times would spend millions of gil to remove Dye stains from my Viper Au Ra again!

Role playing in FFXIV is one of the biggest reasons I'm still subbed. I'm a story guy so the extreme fights and raids were never my thing. Role playing kept me going. Lore friendly or not. Its been a fun and wild time.

I am very excited for this! I am no RPer (too much social anxiety) but I do have a great interest in player character lore. Whenever I find myself in Limsa I often spend some time just looking at adventurer plates and following any carrd links because it’s just so fascinating. I also have a backstory for my WoL that I have made lore accurate and will be sharing!

I always enjoy hearing the origin stories my friends tell me of their WoL, so this should be interesting. I wrote my own, but I'm not part of any RP community so I never get to use it other than to imagine what my WoL is thinking during solo cutscenes.

This concept has a LOT of potential beyond pure roleplay. I would LOVE to see a series of videos showing off character backstories. I for one would love to ramble on about my WoL!

I’m curious too. I was initially bothered about how there was no way to tell where your WoL comes from. I’m curious to know how other people solved this problem. So I created a small island nation loosely based off UK’s history. It’s very isolated and virtually unheard of. Few people travel there or leave it. But my midlander Hyur wanted to be an adventurer in Eorzea. So at age 22 she took her lance and travelled to Gridania to explore, find new places and people. New cultures and ways of fighting. To become strong and make her fortune. She starts off a Lancer, then Dragoon, then Red Mage. It was the most believable and unobtrusive way I could think of to explain where my WoL came from, where her family is, what culture she comes from while neatly addressing why we never come across the WoL’s family or friends during the game. But I’m curious to see how others approach and solve that problem.

I would definitely be interested to see what comes of this. One of my biggest hangups with the RP community in FFXIV is the oversaturation of venue RP (nightclubs, bars, casinos, etc.) and an inability to find much else. But if this content can lead to me finding a group of non-venue RPers, I'd be so excited!

I’m interested in that kind of role play too. I haven’t gotten into the RP community yet although I’d like to. And I’m not against venue RP but also non venue. Back in FF11 I had a group of friends who would hang out in different zones RPing in/tell or /party channels following the story set by the GM. There were multiple GM who took turns each week with the story, often collaborating to mix the “season” storyline with the “episode of the week” story. It was a lot of fun. I knew a similar group in Star Trek Online but nowhere else.

So I'm an Au Ra male called Khurin Goro (yea, the tribe that shares a certain kind of love for horses... *sigh*) from the Xaela tribe. Anyway, luckily for me on that regard, my family (mom and dad) moved from the Steppe to Ishgard as my father was a reknown crafter and he wanted to expand on his crafting knowledge. My mother is what is known as a witch or, in the Western kingdoms, a mage. As for me, since I was a kid I was fascinated by the Yols, their wings and how they flew throughout the Steppe. On Ishgard there weren't this magnificient creatures, however, there were DRAGONS, so as soon as I came of age I decided I wanted to join the dragoons ranks and made a name for myself there but I could not start as a dragoon directly, so I travelled to New Gridania and started my journey as a lancer meeting the Scions in the way coming back to Ishgard and this time as an experimented lancer who really could join the dragoons. Nowadays I'm a DRG and I can finally soar the skies like the yols and the dravanians do, as well as weaving some magic as a BLM from time to time to honor my mum (you know, EEEEX-PLOOO-SHOOOON). PS.: I also followed my dad's passion as a crafter

I really enjoy your lore videos, Synodic, and your glam is really simple and cheap and I like that. Being one who spends tons of real money on glam outfits(my Blue Mage is wearing the Princess outfit and my newly raised Warrior is wearing the Choir girl outfit), it's warming to see someone whose favorite attire is a simple hooded robe with a full-face mask. It helps keep the mystery on who this guy is. ;) I'd gladly share my own stories.

If the roleplay videos do well, will you also consider fanfiction in the future? While I don't take part in RP due to time constraints, I know myself and several other players write stories on our own that try to stay true to the presented lore of the game. Or maybe that's eligible here, and that flew over my head. ^^;

As someone that makes timelines for not only his own character but all his group's. This is lovely. I find playing inside the premade lore far more fun then making mt own. Not to the level of it has to all fit as they is insane. And sometimes the games had retcon ideas I had but I still ran with mine. So this sounds rather fun kinda like an exam to keep in the books. I'll have to try and toss it in. Though if you're ever in Lich there is a pint at my tavern waiting for you. And if this goes well drinks for life.

I really do want to see more player stories. I am still crafting my character's story, and determining how it would effect the events of the game, to interesting effects. One of the first story changes is the attack on the waking sands and what follows. I am still crafting it to be lore accurate. I will be editing it a bit, but I will try to send a bit of the story over.

So my friend and I are not into RP, but we like to brainstorm stories when going on lore tangents. Here is one spoopy body-snatcher-ish concept we thought about during Halloween in Stormblood: Bordering the Black Shroud and the area around Silvertear, there was a small isolated hamlet. The people sought shelter in an abandoned Gelmorran cellar-like ruin during the Seventh Umbral Calamity. They emerged malnourished and delirious from their safety bunker only to find their old home uninhabitably scorched by Bahamut. In their desperation, they prayed to the Elementals to repair the land and to make things how they used to be. Years later, the area is labeled as inhospitable due to environmental conditions. A group of Garlean deserters on the run discover a lush area in this hazard zone with a village. The deserters are mistakenly perceived as adventurers and get a warm welcome. They stayed for a week, doing odd jobs for the village and get recognized by the village elder, an old Hyur woman with big Behemoth-like horns. From this point onward, the story is narrated from the perspective of one of the deserters. He is plagued with headaches and nightmares during their stay. In his exhaustion, his mental state deteriorates. He perceives that everything seems to belong to the village-the people, the flora, and the fauna. Only he himself feels out of place. One day, while exploring the outskirts of the village, he stumbles upon a hidden entrance to an underground chamber. Inside, he discovers an old altar adorned with crystals and surrounded by symbols of the Elementals. He feels proven in his paranoia; the Garlean propaganda taught him what Primals are. He warns his comrades, and they decide to leave the village in the dark of night. As the deserters make their hasty escape through the shadowy outskirts of the village, a chilling wind whispers through the twisted branches of the scorched trees. The protagonist's heart races, a mixture of fear and adrenaline coursing through his veins. The moon casts an eerie glow over the landscape as the group moves silently, hoping to avoid any prying eyes. Just as they reach the edge of the hazardous zone, where the village's unnatural lushness meets the desolation of Bahamut's destruction, the protagonist feels a sudden, searing pain in his side. A stifled gasp escapes his lips as he stumbles, realizing too late that one of his comrades had turned on him. In the dim moonlight, he catches a glimpse of the glinting blade, stained with the betrayal of Garlean steel. The other deserters, their eyes vacant and glazed, move with purposeful determination as they overpower him. Desperation and confusion cloud the protagonist's mind as he fights against the inevitable. His closest friend says:" We promised each other a better tomorrow a place to call home", while dragging his body back to the village. On his dying breath, he sees a silhouette of a small-winged creature with big black horns.

While I have my head canons and background/lore for my character(s) in FFXIV, I never got into roleplaying with other players in the game and don't think I will in the near future. I just don't have the time, still have too much else to do in the game. I'm also more interested in the "official lore" than stories other players come up with, regardless of whether it's lore accurate or not. That said, I'm going to give it a chance and will watch the videos. Well, at least the first video. Everything else depends on the stories you get, how you present and react/interact with them. Fun fact: I consider all of your head canons, roleplaying, your lore, your way of playing or not playing the game, and whatnot, canon. I decided for myself to think of FFXIV as a multiverse with one world for each player and that they overlap occasionally (i. e. when we do content together). So even if our opinions seem way too different, it's no issue for me. My lore/head canon can coexist with your lore just fine.

Honestly, enjoyment of roleplay is what got me into following lore channels. Finding channels and creators that put the stories in a new context or help meunderstand the game world is a large boon to creating stories all my own, making it feel like it fits in the world.

I don't RP but I do write several paragraphs of lore and backstory for each of my characters. I like to know who they are, where they come from, what they are doing and why.

While I do RP (or at least used to, not so much lately) I also write full backgrounds for my characters. Character biography if you will. For the same reasons in knowing my character’s personality, values, motivations, culture and history. I’m always curious to learn how others get around the problem that we’ll never encounter our character’s family, birthplace or friends beyond those she meets in the game. My FF14 is similar to how I usually solve those issues for “blank slate protagonist.” I created a small, very isolated, almost unheard of island nation loosely based on British history. It’s unobtrusive but neatly solves all those issues in one go.

Hmm… so, in the context of my OC’s lore, and Roleplay, Karix is an Ala Mhigan Refugee. One where he was only a baby while his parents ran from the country, all the way to Eorzea, preferably The Black Shroud. His life wasn't an easy one even if his family attempted to be farming one. But he felt the eyes of people who don't like his Race of Ala Mhigan despite being a Miqo’te. It's only because when people knew about his father being an Ala Mhigan Hyur, it became hard on him. But around the 1.0 to ARR (didn't play it but it makes sense in terms of lore), he knew about a dark past of his dad abandoning the people. Due to him being disgusted with the Mad King's actions. That part of the information was kept secret because… well his dad wanted to abandon the Ala Mhigan heritage. A really dark part of his shame was due to the Mad King at the time. So, Karix in ARR did a “like father like son” scenario. He abandoned his family in order to become an Adventurer. So he can find a way to bring back honor to the Morriama name.

I've shared your video with my RP-FC already. We try our best to keep our RP as lore-friendly as possible as our concept is that of a collective of scholars that travel throughout Hydalyn to study the star, and we have lectures on aetherology and book clubs and all that fun nonsense

My character was born to a miqote woman and a hrothgar male. at the age of six he had to run from bozja with the rest of his family ( during which his fathers sword arm was injured), seeking refuge in the outskirts of ul'dah eventually making a home near horizon. his mother quickly making a name for herself as a alchemist and doctor and his father working the trade in the area trading his sword for a pen. At the age of 13 my character was caught playing with his fathers gunblade one night after it discharged and cut his cheek his father realizing his potential began teaching him how to use the gunblade as well as upper body training to take the brunt of the explosive force. At age 21 he set out on his adventure, making his way to La Noscea where he takes his first few quests he meets his first comrades, a female miqo'te who mixes dancing and summoning who says she grew up on a pirate ship, and a female viera who doesnt know much of there past and has a bad time with dating women.

I've been an avid follower of yours since the start of this year. I love this game's universe and I adore how in some of your videos it feels very in character as if you are giving a lecture. I've crafted a story for my character near and dear to me. So I'd be more than happy to drop off a PDF for my character's story! Very interested in seeing how this plays out. Since you mentioned this on twitter, I've been going through my WoL's backstory and tweaking things to better fit the order of events in the timeline, since the "Well most of this happens in the span of a couple months" really messed with my character's age range. So, making my WoL a tad older made events flow better instead of rushing it all within the span of perhaps a year or two at most. Had to shake the dust off my Encyclopedia just to make sure I have years and events right has been a renewing experience into why I fell in love with XIV's story in the first place.

I think it would be cool to prompt more players to fill their Lodestone profiles with character backstories. I put my character’s backstory on there and I revise it here and there to match the changes in the msq lore. None of it is spoilery in any way as it’s all story from before the MSQ starts. My backstory tells of a mother and father who split for my benefit. I grew up with my father who was a notable pugilist adventurer. He taught me adventuring and survival. He died to bahamut’s rage in the last calamity. The memory loss has fractured my memories of both my parents and now I adventure in my father’s spirit whose name and face I cannot recall. (Toying with having a sister who grew up with our mother but don’t have enough lore yet to play with that more in depth.)

I’m no RPer but I always wanted to establish the place of my character in this world, so I wrote a short story (more like a dialogue of 2 nameless characters about my character), trying to not contradict all I know about XIV’s lore. However, it’s written in another language. I wonder, if I translate it to English, will that do for participation in this little experiment? Wish Scribe could answer that xD

I’m curious to hear about it. When I first started playing I was bothered by how I was going to explain why in all her travels my WoL would never encounter a hometown, family or friends. I found my own solution. I created a small(ish) island nation far isolated from the main continents. Few have heard of it and fewer travel there, loosely based off the UK’s history. My midlander Hyur Lancer went to Eorzea to learn about the world, travel it, record her findings and grow stronger and richer. She eventually became a Dragoon and took up Red Mage. I usually write it as diary entries. But I’m always curious about how other people approached and solved the problem.

So one my Alts or OC'S is named Sauna, she was born during the war of Black Mages and White Mages during the 5th Era in Ambapor, right before the great flood of Leviathan she transferred her soul into a Auracite Coin to avoid being devoured by a pack a Voidsent, only to be found in the 7th era by a unlucky (Or Lucky depending on your point of view)adventure and now she has a New Body and Life to live in the light.

I'm currently writing an entire story within FF14 with a few of my friends, a lot of it made with my own lore outside the game's. Problem is it's one of those R rated stories that not everybody can gel with on account of language and subject matter. I'd love to actually share our story outside our little circle at some point.

I feel like role playing has truly helped me enjoy the finer minutia of the lore. Specifically its magic system. My main is a summoner, and so Ive tried to immerse myself on practial uses of arcanima. The recent custom deliveries, amd varient dungeon both had so much for me to dig into.

I do like the idea! FFXIV RP community is something I've been a little intimidated by just because I haven't been certain on -how- they go about it, or how I approach it. So I often will just lurk nearby to observe! It feels so different from other RP communities in games, like WoW Guild Wars or SWTOR.

And even her carrd is missing some parts. This is by design, as it helps to cut down on 'meta gaming'. I'm tempted to drop something off...except the stuff I have for my characters isn't exactly lore friendly per sae. Rather, the world of Eorzea is used a base to write them in a differnet world and lore, mainly involving interdimensional travel and reincarnation stuff. That and just because it's unique doesn't necessarily mean it's interesting. And my stories would fall *hard* into uninteresting to probably too clichéd. Although there is one hero and villain that might work...who knows. We shall see.

Im a little late to the party but do you want roleplay stories or can i drop OC lore, The background for my wol was something i worked hard on to make sure it has as minimal lore conflict as it can, so im just wondering cause i have run into others who share in certain aspects of our backgrounds if thats the kind of roleplay story your are looking for.
