A recommendation for the lyric part: Don't use the "glaring" effect for the music, as well as the running through glares. Lyrics should at the foremost, be easy to read and notice. The glare effect would often obscure the first few words when the lyric appear, while, making it a real distraction to read the lyric.

Knowing what the lyrics are make the song hit harder. It starts as a somber song about someone lamenting their pain and loneliness but the chorus keeps coming in to join them and let them know they aren't alone. Perfect for a story about disparate cultures and communities finding peace and harmony in the face of adversity.

Musically, Soken also tried to use various North and South American musical styles ....for example this song, is very much rooted in afro-american gospel/new age praise and worship. The musical roots of the Americans, *tend* to be very uplifting, bright and hopeful. Jazz, Country, American Theatre, Gospel, Salsa, Reggie, Swing, Rock, American Classical Music (like Copeland and Gershwin) all appearas influnces in this explansions music plus much more.... and all are hopeful, bright and uplifting. And when not these things, driven. I teared up many times in zones hearing various themes *not* because they were moving in that way, but because they moved me. To hear, that this Japanese man, trying to replicate and color a world to tell a story and show culture...that he sees us, or at least hears us, this way. As hopful and cheery and uplifting and positive. That the world...or at least Soken still sees the America's as a vibrant, place of hope.

***SPOILERS FOR DAWNTRAIL MSQ*** - - - - - I couldn't help but notice that the while song can be interpreted as as being about either Alexandria or Tural; I think it actually eludes *more* to Alexandria. The first thing I caught was "the storm has taken everything you know"; which, in fairness, could on its own just be a metaphor for hard times. Then I noticed "in lightning's wake did naught remain but ash". THAT'S far more specific, when you consider the story of Dawntrail as context. But THEN I noticed "climb the Heaven's peak, and from the Heaven's peak, grab all that we need; soon we'll go on, never gonna stop". This had me full-stop. What was Sphene's goal, again? To invade the other shards and kill everyone they find so that they can harvest their souls and use them to fuel their own artificial afterlives? Sounds like the song just reworded that extremely selfish and downright evil goal in a flowery and nice sounding way. This fascinates me, because the entire song has a COMPLETELY different vibe when you read it this way. It effectively becomes a call from Sphene to the Alexandrians, to optimistically unify as a people with the common goal of inter-shard genocide, so that they can keep having their own immortal paradise to themselves. The song is still happy sounding, because the people singing it *are* happy. It's about togetherness, love, unity, always being able to count on each other, a nation of people who are all helping each other through adversity; but the solution to their adversity is at the cost of potentially billions of innocent lives. It's a really clever and subtle way to give the song a sinister twist, that only people paying close enough attention will notice.
@littleowl34935 ай бұрын
I don't think you are wrong about who it's about. However I think, like a lot of second themes in ff14, it's a bit more then that. I think the singer is *her* after the fact. She is lamenting on what she didn't do, and all of those in the asterial sea and in some ways those still alive, telling her she never was alone. She didn't have to take this mantle of leadership on her own. They will find a new way forward. Notice the song plays *after* everything that happens. Least this is my interpretation of it. (sorry for being vague, trying to avoid big spoilers, though if you don't want spoilers why are you here?lol)

@@littleowl3493 Like I said, there are definitely multiple different valid interpretations, and the lyrics are vague enough that they can still apply. If anyone still reads it and then opens the replies to it, that's on them at this point lol

The line “ev’ry memory through the war, the everylnad” I think actually reads “Weaving memory through the warp and weft of the land”. i don't care what many people are saying about Dawntrail, it was the best expansion to me, it's a perfect way to start a new narrative arc, It's a very good way of telling everyone not to forget what has been, but to let it go and move on to the future. Of course, the expansion didn't have a great interdimensional war spanning several millennia like the previous ones, but on the one hand, you never start a story with its ending, and if Endwalker or Shadowbringers had been released at the time of ARR without all the previous worldbuilding it would have been mediocre, so you can't expect an expansion whose role is to be an ARR 2. 0 to have the same degree of involvement and narration as a story told over 10 years, the end of the expansion follows this message well, thanks to the story of Sphene: as was the case for the ancients, you pull the plug and let the past be the past, to turn towards the future, which was already announced after all when we fight Zenos for the last time and after the postgame of Endwalker, we are no longer the Warrior of Light, we are Azem, the Adventurer.

I'm so confused now. Saw on discord that apparently there is drama about this song being "black gospel" music. It isn't even gospel music lol. More sounds like one of those rushed disney songs. Where the vocalists was given like a day to practice and they weren't really given any direction. Either that or this would be like one of those choir songs you'd practice for one session before you had to do a concert lol. I've been in that situation before and it sounds exactly like this. Edit: Couldn't put my finger on it but after listening to it a few times. I think I spotted why the song sounds so off to me. They made the lyrics independently from the music composition and are trying to force it to fit together. It just doesn't work. She is trying so hard to squeeze in the lyrics her voice literally goes flat. Just to give an example of how important this is most of the time. Listen to the bee song. The music and the lyrics are so synced together that the lyrics can be sung easily without the underlying music. Since they were made together and they almost literally meld together. Now try and sing the lyrics of Smile without the accompanying music. It doesn't work. You can sing a phrase and then there is like two extra words that really should either not be present or the notes in the music itself should have been extended. Those are the parts her voice goes flat cause there is literally nothing to accompany it. It's also why the song heavily leans into the call and response choir. Since the music sheet literally just says 1 note loudly lol Actually had a music teacher who demonstrated this to a class I took. He had one person compose a piece of music. Then told another person to write lyrics for the music without ever listening to it. Just being given a vague description. Then had a vocalist who hadn't seen either try and attempt to sing the lyrics with the music. It was nearly impossible for them to match them together. It was used to demonstrate the importance of communication on a collaborate project. Since it's not uncommon for lyricists and composers to work together. It's an extreme example but on some level. That's what sounds like happened here.
