Here's a tip for using macros that announce raise/invuln in party chat. Put your /ac in the second line before the /p line and add a at the end of the /ac line. That will allow you to spam the button to make sure it doesn't fail and it won't spam party chat because once you press the macro again it resets that 1s timer before the /p message goes out.

So ave the macroicon first, then , the skill itself, and then the /p?

As a healer main in FFXIV, mouse-over macros for healer skills are life. All I have to do is bring my mouse cursor over to the party member's name in the party window and bam, they're being healed and I haven't even switched targets. That was something I was taught in Heavensward and it still works today. Example: /micon "Cure" /ac "Cure"
@Xbob424 жыл бұрын
Similar to healbot, clique or, of course, mouseover macros in WoW, it sounds like. Been a Healbot boy for years myself. Surprisingly, I find healing with a gamepad super easy in this game, which makes me glad. I can do the nerd hunch when healing in WoW, and the slob slouch when healing in FFXIV. Soft-targeting (where you choose a target with the D-Pad, but don't hit the confirm button to properly "select" it, so you use a single ability on that target and it deselects it, like a sort of weird mouseover macro but for gamepads) is a godsend for this reason. I find it kind of sad that FFXIV's default friggin' CONTROLLER healing is infinitely more usable (to me) than WoW's default KB&M healing UI, and I don't count mouseover macros as part of the default UI. Sorry for the rant, just haven't really talked about this subject much.

i use the same thing for ninjas "gap closer" so if i want to get to someone(like the boss) fast i just click the macro, if i want to go somewhere where there is nothing (like escaping an AoE) i can just untarget and then click the macro to use it in the normal ground target way. also there is a line, "/acerror" or something like that (maybe "off" too) that disables the "ability not ready yet" message you get when telling a macro to use the same ability twice like this.
@Shaderox5 жыл бұрын
@Amadox that is if your condensing multiple DIFFERENT abilitys into the same macro, since the order is not 100% perfect, but when modifying a ground targeted spell like this, it's no problem that i know of. which ever line triggers first you'll still use in on the target if you have one, or go into ground targeting mode if you don't have one, since your unlikely to be able to confirm a place on the ground before the other line triggers even if they go in the wrong order, and the ~0.5 internal cooldown dosent apply before you actually used an ability so it wont be a problem if all the lines refer to the same ability since you'll only cast it once before the cooldown starts.
@Shaderox5 жыл бұрын
@Amadox Sorry, haven't tried that since and normal ground targeting fill all my needs so far. I guess you could make a macro like that, and then try it out a couple of times in some far-off deserted area and in a crowded city too see how reliable it is in low and high latency settings,.. Then again if you use , you can just have the mouse over the target/self (click-on-self might have to be enabled in settings for that to work) instead of having the or if its not reliable enough ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

my favorite healer macro for my direct heals and esuna is. /macroicon "spell" /ac "spell" /ac "spell" /ac "spell" This causes the spell to go off on whoever im mousing over first even mousing over names of people in other alliance raid groups. This allows me to keep the boss targeted to see what abilities they are casting while also healing / removing debuffs. If I dont have anyone moused over it will go off on my target. You can also hold down right shift to disable mousover completely causing it to prioritize target. Now if i dont have a target or someone moused over it will cast it on me instead. There are things you must be cautions of though with this set up. Ive had it decide i wasn't mousing over someone when i was and it instead cast the spell on me. So use at your own risk. Due to my physical disability I just using healing macro's. As dps I don't need any. I've 8 heal macro's which are almost the same as a healer, but thanks to this I can heal easily the player which needs to be healed by clicking on the correct button without losing target on the boss or mt. Also for raise I ve a macro with swiftcast + raise, and it targets the first death player in row. I ofc have also the normal raise on my actionbars aswell as the healing skills as backup. All this makes me a pretty decent healer who can keep the group alive (most of the times). I also am a Warrior, a Red Mage and a Bard atm, I try to learn as much as I can and use only macro's which are helpfull for me.
As someone who plays on ps4 with controller, and wound up being the group's healer for a long time, I made a macro button that swaps to focus target (usually the MT). It's much faster and much more responsive than pressing the up/down directional buttons to try and select the player who's tanking for a faster heal/esuna/barrier. It's also decent for when you have an enemy that moves around, as you'll instantly target them so long as they're your focus target, and can get back to DPS'ing. /target

That way I don't have to untarget my tank, but I can still get in some dps. -For skills used on other players (Mainly use these while tanking): I'm not a big fan of mouseover (just how I play), but I do use a party order , etc, for shields. Like Cover and Intervention (PLD) or Blackest NIght (DRK) that way all I have to do is hit a key to trigger the effect on someone without clicking on the party list and taking my attention off the boss (or whatever my main target is)

I do have an interesting question for folks out there and the mention of macros being used by handicapped players. First, a bit of background info: my mother has had multiple surgeries in the past and has what we casually call 'anesthesia brain', which has made it both difficult for her to remember the effects of some of her bard skills, as well as severely affecting her reaction time. That, combined with surgeries on her hands and her inability to use a mouse with added buttons on it for efficiency, has made partaking in fight and dungeons nearly impossible for her. It's hit her a bit hard because she truly loves this game, but has become very self-conscious because of her inability to do well in most later dungeons. My question to you all is, do you think, in her case, macros that condence a series of skills together would help her? Allow her to focus solely on avoiding AOEs while the macros themselves do most of the skill work? Of course, she'll not be running any savage raids or whatnot, and her damage wouldn't be the best, but just something that may allow her to do, say, a leveling or trial roulette.
@angusjohnston71725 жыл бұрын
Of course! If you need to do this to play, it's absolutely fine. And as you said, she's not gonna be doing savage raids so being optimal in DPS isn't an issue. If it helps her play/ enjoy the game, then she should.

To expand on the macro for ground target AOEs, back when Shadowflare was a thing (rip) I would use a + macro. This is useful for bosses like Cloud of Darkness that have gigantic hotboxes or have their hotbox centers off a targetable surface. That macro allows for targeting of the boss first, but if it fails, it will then target the target of the boss ( = target of target) and typically place the ground aoe right under the tank. I don't recommend this for defensive bubbles, but it's quite useful for salted earth, etc. is also quite useful for certain targeted defensive abilities that you want on the target that is being attacked, so you don't need to swap off the boss.

Best macros are when something is only available if it procs off a pre-req skills. So that proc'd skill goes into the macro line first and then the "3rd final" skill goes second. So you hit the macro, it looks for the 3rd skill, if its available to use, then it uses, if its not then the macro instantly moves onto the "2nd" skill again in the macro (no wait time for something like this). Monk is a good example because of the way its skills chain and only become available when used in a certain order 1-2-3 (heavy hitting 3rd & 2nd skills) /macroicon "Snap Punch" /ac "Snap Punch" (3rd level skill) /ac "True Strike" (2nd level skill) (buff/debuff 3rd & 2nd skills) /macroicon "Demolish" /ac "Twin Snakes" (3rd level skill) /ac "Demolish" (2nd level skill) (Self heal and heal buff) /macroicon "Second Wind" /p Mantra HEALS ARE BUFFED /ac "Mantra" /wait .5 /ac "Second Wind" /ac "Bloodbath" And for healers - namely Astro for me, i macro Swiftcast in with Raise skills /macroicon "Ascend" /ac "Swiftcast" /wait 1 /ac "Ascend" /p Raising

Here's afew tips about macros. 1: using /em makes all following text only apply to you. Example: /em wait 30 This will result in you being pinged in 30seconds. Noone else will hear it. Great for ast cards, important CD like No Mercy or Delirium. 2: Keep combat macros as 2 actions tops. Though I suggest only 1 action since you have to wait and entire second for the next move. However some people like their swiftcast res. 3: In chatlog settings you can try out all the sound effects and see the number they are. 4: Remember to always put channel name for your macro if you want it said in a specific chat or it'll say the text in your currect channel. This is however not always good to do as I like being able to switch between telling a party to tank swap in raids or telling other alliances in shout.

2 high value macro types that I use as a tank: First the macro for skills like shirk/intervention/nascent Flash. This macro will make it so that your skill that you're pressing will always apply to whoever is number 2 in your party (in 8 man content this is always the co tank which is why it works) /micon "Shirk" /ac "Shirk" /ac "Shirk" /ac "Shirk" (Max out all 15 lines of this, to ensure that the skill fires since, as mr.happy stated, macro's ignore the games queuing system) the other one: the Target of Target macro this macro makes it so you don't have to drop target to apply an ability to a desired member, in this case I put it on Aurora because it's a nice regen for whoever is tanking the boss/add what have you because it applies to the target of the enemy whether that be you/the other tank/a party member. /ac "Aurora" /ac "Aurora" /ac "Aurora" /micon "Aurora" and Finally a nice, niche meme one: This is the weapon glow glitch ;D use this simple 2 line macro to glitch glowing weapons so that they glow while sheathed /bm /sit

@ElseeKay5 жыл бұрын
personally as a healer, just getting used to hitting the F1-F8 keys to choose the party member is faster, and the game is slow enough that you have plenty of time to target someone in between GCDs. setting a main target key so you can always be casting your offensive spells, then quickly selecting a party member and throwing an oGCD heal at them or a hard GCD heal at them is fairly fluid once you learn how to target party members directly, rather than fumbling with your mouse and click selecting will save you a lot of headache. of course, do whatever works for you. if using helps you cast asylum or similar helps you in some way, i'm not your boss.
@ragnarokda2065 жыл бұрын
@@ElseeKay I disagree that it's faster. I think it's about the same but requires more actions. So you're doing more work in the same amount of time. Which if you're okay with is fine, specially if you're used to it. But keeping tank on focus, boss targeted and using macros is probably the least amount of work you can do.
@Mokachino745 жыл бұрын
mo is faster if you look more to the screen. most of my friend and me myself see the partylist more than the screen tbh so if you have numpad using numpad and getting back to target with tab is the faster way to go.

Personally, if any DPS macro works decently, as in you're only using a short macro that uses your GCD with 1 OGCD ability, it's not a big deal for anything but progressive raids (or dire situations). No one, and I mean that literally, should give a shit about perfect rotation and timing in most content, unless its your own performance you're wanting that for. If you're playing a job that's overwhelming you (e.g. NIN or MCH) and you're only doing dungeons, 24man, etc, then by all means do what is more enjoyable for you. If your group is struggling because DPS is low (chances are, it's not your fault if said macro is working decently), then try to do things manually for better performance.

The only macro I actively use is Swiftcast macroed with a raising spell. It will always cast swiftcast if I dont have a dead person selected. Albert u have to push it alot to make sure it goes off between GCDs. I dont use this only on RDM as they have dual cast. And if ur gonna cast a raise its gonna interrupt what you're doing anyways. Sometimes raise tries to go before swiftcast but this is solvable by moving and spamming the macro on a dead target. Other than that. This macro has lasted me for 3 years

I love the macros. For those who dont know you can set a attack skill to target your targets target. So let's say your on Sch, you can set your broil to target the PLD target, aka the boss most times. This prevents you from having to untarget the tank and DPS between healing. I know for myself I sometimes forget to switch back and the tank drops super low then I'm scrambling to get them healed back up to safe levels.

For gunbreaker, I actually use this macro as a starter: /macroicon "Lightning Shot" action /action "Continuation" /action "Wicked Talon" /action "Savage Claw" /action "Gnashing Fang" /action "Burst Strike" /action "Bloodfest" /action "Sonic Break" /action "Keen Edge" /action "Lightning Shot" /wait 1 /action "Continuation" Now, what's the point? Firstly, if a target is too far away, Lightning Shot will be used. And I am using its icon for the macro specifically to asses whether I am close enough to a target, at least, for this weapon skill. Now, when doing regular weapon skills rotation, there is not much need to hold on to your cartridges, thus I use them right after solid barrel, and using them in a macro, I ensure, that I do not forget them. Now, if Gnashing Fang (or its follow-ups) are not available, Burst Strike will be used. When no cartridges - regular Keen Edge will be used. For Continuation, I have placed in 2 places: since it's an ability, we can use it right after appropriate weapon skill, but since majority (if not) weapon skills have animation lock for slightly under 1 second, having the macro wait for 1 second is enough to fire the ability pretty fast and automatically. In case target dies before Continuation, I have it as first skill in the list, so that it will be used on next target. Having Bloodfest after Burst Strike ensures, that if I do not have cartridges, but have Bloodfest available - I get my 2 cartridges and use them right after that. And Sonic Break is there, simply so that I won't forget to use it as soon as its available. I try to put this much thought in all my macros, so that they are as efficient as possible and cover as much of possible situations as I can think of. Sometimes they can "missfire" in a sense, that a buff for example is triggered at the end of the fight and is, essentially, wasted, but on the other hand, I will not forget about it during middle of a fight. Of course, healing abilities are never macroed, as well as some "situational" ones.

One of the things I would have noted is the party messages in a macro, to put the action first, followed by a and then the party message. What this will do is allow you to spam the macro, due to macro interruption and the wait 1, the macro won't proceed to spam the party chat message until you stop pressing so it should (hopefully) not spam although your message will be at least 1s late.

If you have difficulty with the 40-button flight console, if you're going to combine combat macros, I find putting a couple 'don't care, just use it' OGCD's under a single GCD ability can help compress your hotkey load a fair bit. You lose efficiency, and you'll probably be strangled to death by an Optimizer, but at least you're USING more of your skills more consistently without having to program a USB keyboard to play the game. I wouldn't recommend macros for ground AoEs like Salted Earth, especially if you are going to do Savage on at least average efficiency. You can easily double weave those without macros, but you risk losing uptime if you are not able to preplace them anywhere if the target is about to move somewhere
Macros are a godsend for controller users like myself that have a bit of dyslexia using the wxhb. I DO combine actions that have separate cooldowns IF it fits like putting an ability with an extra long cooldown onto a regular gcd. Very rarely put more than one extra ability onto a single macro. Only time I've ever really had issues is beginning of new expansions with job changes so have to go in and change accordingly

You'd have ot press it the exact moment it is off cd while you're not in an animation, or spam the hell out of it until you watch it physically go off CD. The one I'm using right now is is provoke icon, provoke action, then wait 1 second, /party chat. That way I spam until provoke goes off(which shouldn't take long) and then the message goes off when I see its on cd. Gotta treat it differently if you're in the middle of a rotation and make sure you spam it or click it wen you're in a window of doing almost absolutely nothing else.

Uh excuse you, my One Piece themed limit break macro and Luffy glamour have earned me many a commendation. >:T in seriousness though nice vid. Never really explored macros outside the LB macro so pretty educational!

LB macro's are a bit different to an ability that gets spammed a lot, it's always fun to see a fun LB macro

If you're going to tie a quote or chat macro with the use of an ability just pair it with a wait.1 so that if you spam it, it won't spam chat. It'll only execute the quote when you stop spamming.

a HUGE macro right now is a hotbar collapse macro for hiding stuff like stuff for jobs and stuff.

Same, my screen real estate has been so much better ever since I realized I could make my job change hotbar change and go away.

Mouse Over target modifier healing/esuna for gamepad users! I used to do this back when FFXIV was still new on PS4. It's super useful in cases where you have the tank as your target and you need to throw a quick heal/esuna on a party member but also don't want to lose the tank as your target. Mouse over target modifier makes it possible to heal/esuna a player simply hovering the player's name on the party list, as such you don't need to actually select the player to cast it, thus removing the need to swap target. You may think of it as having an additional focus target dedicated entirely for your tank besides the usual focus target that you have on the boss. However if you are on mouse & keyboard I would suggest that you avoid using this kind of macro as it can be a real nightmare at times. Having a mouse cursor and a player randomly running past it while avoiding AoEs can make you lose target in a critical moment and can potentially cause a party wipe, so ONLY use this kind of macro for your cross hotbar ONLY.
