What a great little primer on the basic game mechanics. I think this is the first video I've seen that has gone over some of these topics in a meaningful way. They also apply to all classes too not just healing. I especially liked the tip about putting like buttons in the same place across classes, because that is true for other roles as well.

@@EverydayEorzean You are most welcome. I mean, credit where credit is due. I've seen plenty of videos of people helping with various different aspects of FF, especially healing, and almost all of them go over the spells and the fact that healers are expected to DPS during down-time, but you're the first I've seen go into hud layouts, hotbars, keybinds and macros. It's good, solid information that most people just wouldn't think about putting in their video. So, again, well done! :)

One of those wow refugees here, played H-Pal over there pre-glimmer and I am loving Scholar gameplay in FF so far (part way through Heavensward leveling right now). Weaving OGCD's took some getting used to but now that I am starting to see some more of them I am loving the system. A little trick that I pulled over from wow is unbinding S to backwards movement, instead having another close spot for keybinds (I tend to put "oh crap!" hotkeys there), as backpedaling is so slow compared to strafing. Love your vids! keep up the good work! :)

Great video as always 😊 One thing you probably know, but might find interesting, I was told a few days ago that some OGCD stuff like tetragramation actually does not officially count as a spell. Mainly meaning it also won't benefit from the WHM wings, for instance, or other stuff that buffs spells. But some other effects that just flat out increase healing received (like asylum) do help it.

I just recently made the switch from DPS to Healer, which is a big deal since I've always been to scared to play anything other than DPS. My boyfriend has been a big help with encouraging me in trying out White Mage, and it certainly helps that he mains tank, so he usually makes sure I'm confident enough in myself with certain pulls/bosses. I've been doing pretty alright so far and I'm thoroughly enjoying the class, so much so that it's become my main now! We've just recently made it into Stormblood though, and I wanna make sure I'm ready enough to do endgame content now that we're getting closer to it. So I've been doing a little more research about my class and healing. Your videos just so happened to be one of the first to pop up, and they've been a big help! Hey I just wanted to say that I usually don't look into Final Fantasy videos, but due to watching a video on how to get the Rathalos mount I saw a similar video about Healer tips and it was a great video and now I'm checking this one out. I just wanted to say thank you for all the helpful advice and tips on how to play healer better, I didn't know what slide casting was or meant since you said it, nor did I know what GCD's meant or oGCD's. Regarding the video on improving at healer, it was very helpful to know that it's okay to make mistakes or that sometimes it isn't your fault for someone dying. I know if somebody dies when I play WHM I assume it's just because I messed something up or think the person who died is irritated, and the positivity is really inviting as opposed to, say, a guide that is really technically and lengthy and primarily just talks about optimizing rotations and things that I struggle to understand this early on. Appreciate all the hard work you put into your videos, and I look forward to seeing Part II and part III! Thanks again!

I think one of the things that really makes FFXIV so fun for me is how modular the hud and keybindings can be. Initially my setup was pretty similar to Tali's, but eventually, I switched to completely abandoning the mouse all together, as my mouse doesn't have enough buttons for my hand size. So I tend to play with my left hand handling movement and buttons bound to 1-5+shift/ctrl, and my right hand over my numpad to the do majority of the heavy lifting as far as actions go. One targeting thing that feels like it bears mentioning though, is Focus Targeting. When I'm healing, I tend to make my main tank my focus target so that I can target the healing I will predictably need to do even faster than usual.

I don't know if it changed, but I notice no delay by using a mouseover macro to heal, it's just as comfortable as it was in wow, and makes a difference in game. It's just that you also need additional lines to heal the target and the last one that heals yourself without a target. And one more at the beginning with a /microicon "Spellname" at the beginning for comfort. Also mouseover allows you to quickly heal the focus if you have the tank or something as it, while keeping your target in line for offensive spells, or heal others. Perfection.

OH wow lol the peak behind the curtain! Let me start with saying I'm horribly inefficient with my time lol. So usually how the video making process goes for me, is I'll start working on a video the moment I finish the previous one. So the time between postings is a good indicator on how long it takes me. The length between this and the friendship video is a little different because I took on a lot of projects at work that ate into my free time. Hopefully though, this series won't take too long because I outlined it before I started any of the videos so I would know how to break them up, but I started writing the script for Part II last night. Currently I'm working a fulltime job and a small part time job on the weekend, so my recording/editing/filming hours in the evening get split with all the other things that come with day to day living including cooking, cleaning, quality time with the bf and puppies, and me time (playing video games and watching shows). Add to that I'm mostly self-taught which means a lot of trial and error and time spent on google researching how to get an effect I want and it leads to quite a long development process. That being said, each time I make video I'm fine-tuning a process. This time, I've fine tuned my audio! What used to take me daaaaaays to record and have a product I was happy with, now only takes one or two attempts because of presets I've developed.... but usually I somehow find a way to eat up that gained time with some silly idea like "OH WOULDN'T IT BE COOL IF THE TITLE WAS IN FLOATING BUBBLES?! (see how to make friends video XD). Hopefully as I develop more presets, 'static' styles and templates the gap between videos will become shorter

I've used a couple different apps over time. The avatar itself was created and rigged (made to move) for me by a creator/artist named MonochromeAgent (link in bio). Currently, I'm using PrprLive to capture my movements, but I've used Facerig (Now Animaze) and Vtuber Studio before too :). They all have their strengths depending on what you want to do! I'm also exploring a 3d model! I was able to get someone to make my in-game character for VR and could possibly do videos with my actual character :D:D:! For the longest time I hated playing healer. In fact my only top level healer was the scholar, and that was because I was maining summoner and they level together. I use a controller on ps4 and I had a hard time alternating between damage and healing. Then I found some macros that allow my damage spells to target whoever I’m healing targets. For instance, when I’m on the tank and cast a damage spell I hit who the tank hits. This has made it healing less intimidating and a lot more fun for me

@@EverydayEorzean here is the one I use for my scholar, but the commands are interchangeable with the other healing jobs. /macroicon Broil /macroerror off /ac “Ruin” /ac “Ruin” This way when I keep the tank highlighted my attack spells target whoever the tank is targeting. Just be sure to do focus target on the bosses so you can see their cast bars. The nice thing is it scales with levels. So at a low level dungeons it will cast ruin 1 while at level 80 it will cast broil 3. Same with bio or any of the other spells with the other healing jobs. You just have to do a separate macro for Ruin II. This has made healing much easier and more fun for me

@EverydayEorzean
@EverydayEorzean 3 жыл бұрын
Oh let's answer this now so you don't have to wait for the next video! The focus target allows you to select a target and see their health/cast bar even when you're not targeted on them. So as a healer, you're targeting the main tank, other party members, the boss, you're all over the place lol, but by Focus Targeting the boss, you will have an indicator showing them at all times on your screen. So even if I'm healing the tank, I can still see when the boss starts to cast an ability. You can also set your keybinds to quickly target the focus target. So for me, I have my 'set focus target' to Shift+F, then I have my Focus Target itself keybound to F. So no matter where I am on the field, if I hit F, I target the boss and can start doing damage or what not.

There's actually a fourth way of targeting: cycle targeting with mouse wheel (my half-assed name). Basically you set up a cycle through targets and direction in settings, use f.ex. ctrl + mouse wheel to cycle enemies, alt + wheel for allies, etc. Then in the world you just press alt/ctrl and cycle through targets with your mouse wheel until you find your target. This way there is no clicking on any icons, but it may take a bit to get used to stopping in time... even tho you can go through the cycle both ways as far as i recall. This is similar to how it goes with controllers, if i remember right.

As a healer main from many MMOs past, and a SCH main in FF14, there were some things I learned in this video. Especially the importance of HUD setup (before 14, I played games where adjusting the HUD really wasn't an option...) Thanks, Tali! :D You mentioned you have smaller hands, and reaching certain areas of the keyboard are uncomfortable for you. Have you considered an MMO mouse (the ones with all the buttons on the side?) I've got the opposite problem: my hands and fingers are huge, and I often find myself pressing multiple keys at once in a crunch when using the keyboard's top row. But, with an MMO mouse, it's almost like using an analog phone keypad, or even a calculator keypad. It took some practice to get the muscle memory down, but the number of errors I personally experience has been reduced by a LOT (still cast Esuna, every now and again, when I mean to cast Broil; but the sheer frequency of errors has been drastically reduced.) It's not a solution for everyone (and MMO mice can be pretty expensive, especially if you go with a larger brand like Razer,) but it might be something worth exploring if not converting to.
