PS4 and PS5 players: you can connect a wireless keyboard for chat! Not all bluetooth keyboards will work but if your keyboard can connect with a wireless adapter it’ll work. You can keep playing the game normally with your controller and just use the keyboard for chat so you don’t have to use the awkward and slow controller keyboard pop-up.

Agreed. Logitech K400 works well. It’s a good lap keyboard and the key throw is good for typing. I do also use a small side mouse when I’m doing non intensive content like crafting or inventory management

Also you can use the controller keyboard. I got one for ps5 controller. Pretty convenient

My socializing in game fluctuates wildly. Sometimes I will go up to random people, like the time I went around offering new players pants, or handing out Campfire minions to randoms in Ul'Dah for Kentaro Miura's memorial and sometimes I won't even say "hi" in chat. I'm primarily a very anti-social person and typically only open up to people after I've known them a while.

I was barely starting my game by the day of the memorial I did saw the drk standing in Uldah and I just stood there silently paying my respects I have a drk now and I wish I had started sooner so I could have joined them

I was sooooo shy when I started FFXIV in 2015. I had no keyboard and had never played a mmo. I’m not great at making friends and had I not just randomly picked up FFXIV in the store I wouldn’t have the family and friends I have now. This game is more than a game to me… it’s brought me so much joy and so many wonderful memories and people who are amazing into my life. I want to thank you for making these videos because I know how helpful these are going to be to new players. I wish I had videos like this to guide me when I was starting out. This is really good! Thank you for doing this video! As a sprout, I've found the saying hello strategy has worked best for me. I met my first friends in game when I talked to a bard who who was playing music I recognized, and joined my FC by telling someone that I thought their FC sounded interesting, so this strategy definitely works!

Honestly, as intimidating as it sounds, joining the RP scene (not ERP, but just stuff that runs as night clubs) did wonders honestly! Luckily I already had a friend when I came into the game who was at endgame, so it was easier for me! EDIT: 8:07 I’m 90% sure that’s my FC dancing up there by the speakers!

It's curious how this game has been around for a very long time now and you've been playing it just as long, but your videos come out now while I just started playing FF XIV after I didn't even have this game on my radar since it was released. This video in particular is really helpful since I wanted to meet some new people in-game because I rarely ever bothered to do so in the past in other games; which ultimately lead to me dropping these games at some point. I had my first day of playing yesterday, and I ended up figuring out emotes with somebody that I just said hi to because they had the same pink hair colour as me which I found amazing, getting introduced to how to climb the top of a building just for fun by a guy that was performing on top of it, and listening to a concert by an entire free company. I can already tell that I'm going to have fun playing this game

I can shamefully FC plug? Nearly a year in FF14 now and I've left two FCs because of the social atmosphere, players not logging in for months, regulars in their own cliques. Made my own FC but big problem is, I'm not an outgoing/sociable person (Made the FC to recruit people to play with and break that shyness). Back in Stormblood I met a roelady in Limsa that I found gorgeous. So as a roelady lover I PM the player to tell it. She was so happy she told about me with all her friends in her FC "hey, I met a cute lalafelle who told me I'm gorgeous !". Later on, they invited me on PvE stuff, I've done Lakshmi savage thx to them, and went a lot to treasure maps events. Sometimes, it only takes a few kind words.

Hi, I just wanted to particularly thank you for the tip about using the Contact List at 3:40. I had no idea it existed, and I've played for an embarrassing number of hours, largely through random parties on the Duty Finder, which have gone surprisingly well. It has sometimes grouped me with really awesome people and you have no idea how frustrated I was when I first wanted to message someone after the run to say "thanks, want to group up again sometime?" but couldn't figure out how!! I eventually concluded it was impossible to talk to folks on other servers outside of being in duties until you mentioned the Contact List in your video. Anyways, outside of that I've seen a number of your videos now and they've all taught me something useful, so thanks for creating this great content!

@@EverydayEorzean i actually startet playing when shadowbringers first came out. i heared much about ff14 and i couldnt bring myself to play my, at the time, go-to mmo (wow) so i tried it back then. Unfortunately i was pretty much on my own, since i joined an FC of a pal and all of them were high lvl already. So i basically played the story (it was so good, i acutally cried ;_;!) to lvl 80 and stopped playing. i jumped back into eorzea last week and having a BLAST!

I have to say I really like your videos, your voice is also very pleasant to listen to. As for the tips you give, I have to say they are very good although I am pretty much an extrovert. Every time I go into any dungeon/raid I always say Hi, and spend most of the time talking to the NPCs like a weirdo which some of the times makes others start talking to me. I have made a few friends from that since they found me to be funny even tho I think of myself as a bit weird but fun~! The one time I did get a whole party to friend me was one where we were all Miqo'tes it was pretty cute, we were all like "let's do this with cat power!" X3

Love the editing and of course as always your voice over is so soothing! I joined the FC that my irl friends are in on Aether and everyone is really nice, I've been having a great time but I want to learn how to make friends on my own too! If you want to perhaps we could play together at some point? I'm playing a WHM and currently am about half way through Havensward. I wouldn't mind at all doing lower level dungeons. Depending on which mental health problems you have to fight / get along with I don't have any personal experience, but I had to claw myself out of a really dark place and thus take the topic serious. I hope you're doing ok!

I'm quite ahead of you (Shadow Bringers) but I wouldn't mind seeing if we could have fun together plus I don't mind lower lvl dungeons since I don't have everything maxed out c: Though I struggle with ADHD and Social Anxiety (potentially Autism as well) but I do know I can sometimes be a bit much for people unintentionally and the last few months I have been getting really bad physical pain symptoms thanks to my Social Anxiety I'm a person who just wanna have fun with the game and I wanna be nice but I understand how the above can make people "nope" out before even giving me a chance even with it being unfair 👉👈

I wish i had found this video before i started playing FFXIV. My first experience with the game was good up until i joined my first FC. you see I was playing with two of my friends, I was so happy to start a new adventure with them and to get to explore the wonders of the game. however, not long after, my friends got into the same FC and kind of left me behind for a month...I later confessed to them that I felt left behind and eventually, they invited me into the FC. Apparently, my friends told them how I felt, and i kind of just became the runt of the litter in the FC. I ended up dropping my first character and stopped playing with my friends cause i felt unwanted there, and now I'm kind of hesitant on making new friends, hopefully, i will get rid of that shyness and try to find my online family. thanks for the video!

'Birds of a feather' These tips are great and all, but I have always found the best way to make friends is to not try so hard, and just be polite and pleasant to be around. When you do this and you are also open to new friendships, you will encounter those whose plumage is similar to your own, and you will flock. Also, please be careful how much stock you place in online friendships.

@@EverydayEorzean If you are talking about the bit where I said to be careful how much stock you put into online relationships, it is because in terms of investments, they are high risk. Online bonds are afforded luxuries that are not present in proximal relationships. That is not to warn you about someone who would take advantage of you, but the much more likely scenario that real life takes them away from you. Though you do have to worry about the former as well. You might think that an online friendship is solid, only to find out that they did not feel the same when they give no reason or explanation for their departure. They can just vanish, and leaving you feeling like you need some kind of closure due to your emotional attachment to that friend. So again, I am not saying to not do it. I am just saying to be very mindful, but this holds true for all investments. Some gamers just still need to take that into mind.

Before even watching imma just tell my little story. I went online and looked up FCs in my server cuz I've always played alone and was tired of it. So I was just going through the most popular ones. I saw one that piqued my interest and kinda just forced myself to go to their estate, some one invited me in quickly. I hung around for a few days but idk, something just didn't feel right. No one really spoke in chat cuz they were all on Discord, which is a problem for me cuz I'm on ps4 currently cuz to broke for pc and like using my headset for game audio. So I thought about it and just left and started over and found another. This time messaged the founder, and just asked some basic questions about the things I was looking for in an FC. That's the one I've been with since. I may not play much content with them but having people to just talk to in real nice.

This is the only facet of the game I have yet to completely crack open (along with Gold Saucer). I was on the MSQ grind for awhile and I spend most of my time setting personal goals to level other jobs and unlocking all the trials/raids still left in the game. It all sounds really simple when laid out in a video but I have only been to maybe 2 events, and I am in an active FC. I just don't really talk in there as much as I should I suppose. Which is INCREDIBLY weird cause in a party I don't shut up and I'm always making jokes or connecting with people.

Great video and ff14 is a nice fun community.. the free company is celestial warrior's. It was created by my brother and sister in law. It's a fun company. We have 7 members but there are usually 2 to 3 on almost all the time. We do dungeons, raids, trials, Fates. We are always looking for new members who are not Salts. We have fun We don't complain about how others are playing.

I’ve played the game for 5 years and I still don’t know many people in game that I didn’t meet elsewhere first. My current fc is people I met on discord instead. I did bond with a rando in Limsa the other day over our mutual tendency to randomly jump around while idling. He showed me the fc house he and his wife maintain by themselves and we hung around discussing Asmongold’s first Extreme fight. I usually don’t identify with “other players make the game” because I guess I’m not particularly social, but even I have a good encounter every once in a while I guess.

I don’t know if it’s still relevant but I met most of my friends through in game events like you said. I like to participate in events. Also me being a Lalafell might help. People tend to be more friendly towards Lalafells, maybe that’s just me but I always feel this way.

Thanks for the tips. They're presented in a very friendly way. I'm new to the game (well, I've been playing for six months, but I'm not through EW yet despite doing almost nothing but MSQ) and as somebody who has never ever played a MMO before (and who has never used social media either), I feel a bit intimidated about the social aspect. There have been some very helpful people who have donated their time to helping me out - for example, somebody who explained where to buy glams in one of the 20 minute cutscenes in Prae, and then came by my GC after the dungeon to explain what I wasn't understanding - but I've been too timid to reach back properly to them. There is SO MUCH content in this game that I get overwhelmed just looking at it, and the social element is one part of that content overload. I never know where to start or what my goal is, and I'm worried that after I finish MSQ I'll be left stranded in a sea of content I'll drown in without something to look for. This guide looks like something that can help combat that feeling.

Nice vid! .. I just started last weekend … a bit overwhelming since I’ve never played MMOs. I’m just kinda playing it like a regular FF game. I’ve been wanting to try for a long time but it always felt daunting … especially the cluttered UI and the sheer amount of stuff going on. When I I finally decided to bite the bullet and sit down to learn it took a day to get in a preferred server … I found out after all these new people are joining from WOW and all the preferred bonuses in NA are gone now so good thing I didn’t postpone again lol. I see sprouts everywhere so I guess it’s a good time to start and learn. I’ve pretty much decided to buy the game but I’m not sure I’ll be joining any FC anytime soon … kinda shy and I don’t want to frustrate anyone while I learn! So recently (not super recently but when I first started playing the game again) I found an FC that just so happened to be really good for me. They did the shout advertisement and the person gave me good vibes, so...I joined. I sent a tell and said I was interested. I'm an introvert and have SEVERE social anxiety, so I somehow thought that the person was going to laugh at me and reject me, or if they did let me in, everyone else was going to think I was a weirdo. But they are some of the kindest, most positive people I have ever met. They've accepted my gender identity, helped me navigate as a sprout who's getting farther than I ever have, and have been nothing but funny and great to be around. I'm not sure if I'm gonna be headed to Limsa saying "hey, love your glamour" any time soon because I'm still scared of people just innately thinking I'm a weirdo and I prefer having small groups of friends to bigger ones, but I still had a grand old time meeting the members of my FC and don't regret sending that first tell back in Ul'dah as a baby thaumaturge. Not that I'm not a baby black mage even though I finished ARR recently. But still.

My tip would be to roll on Crystal DC if you can even remotely interact with people while In Character... I've never played an MMO and so I had no friends in the game, but I'm a long time tabletop D&D player and I sought out the RP servers despite all the memes. And I'm so glad I did... RP is just shared storytelling, and even my timid but sincere efforts from around level 30 were enough to be welcomed and for my friends list to start filling up fast. It's been an amazing experience.

it's very easy. step 1 - make a lalafell character. step 2 - emote at people. step 3 - watch your friends list fill up fast. that' sall i did and i have to keep constantly pruning my friends list. you literally don't even have to say a word first. also, emote and say hi when joining a group or dungeon.

Not a problem at all! I use Gshade and use a setting by Expresso Glow named Shadowbringers Gameplay. I still add some lighting when in GPose, but it's been my favorite setting so far.

And there is toxicity where winning is the only thing that matters. I actually lost my good friend over the game lol and that was stupid. It’s been like a week of playing ffxiv and I think I am in heaven, although I don’t like cheesy anime male characters models that looks like pre pubescent high schoolers with no muscularity (female are fine tho, especially cat girls)

I made my first friend in Gold saucer when I stared at them and they stared back at me. Then we played around with the emoticons like waving, dancing, laughing, blushing, etc. Thennnnn after 5-10min we started talking XD we are in JP data centre so we were happy to find another EN player. Not that I don't like JP player but my limited JP don't help much hahahah. That person then added me as friend and we been friends since. I've been playing since ARR and I'll say that keeping a positive view over "making friends" is always good but sadly, not always realistic. I've been in too many FC dramas, and friends basically ghosting you for other groups to give it a proper "Friends are great!"---Since? I've hardened and kept to myself. It's been 3 years since my last FC and I have literally 3 ppl on my friend list which are my husband and his best buds that are trying the game. While I've learned that you can't expect ppl to fall in your arms, I am simply unable to trust anyone anymore. Either they want something from you, or either you will become a number in a huge FC with cliques and groups that are closed to newcomers. That has been my experience since the beginning, also that being a woman simply doesn't help either. Most guys will try to "slip in yo DM's" And when hanging out with girls? I found gossip and back-talking, jealousy over stupid glams, or popularity contest with someone that solely wants the whole "male attention squad" on their ass. It's easy to make "friends" but it's hard to find good, and honest friends. With honest intentions, and willingness to befriend you, trust you, and be there for you as you would be. I am in my early 30's ---married, and happy. I don't want every guy to find a way to get in my "goodwill" Or every girl trying to be the center of attention and constantly. It's like this in every single FC's I've been in ---groups/Linkshells. Every single place has these "Iconic" personalities and it fucking sucks. I'm just trying to play a game, finding ppl to do roulettes once in a while, or help them with their Ex or dungeons! Laugh, watch a movie online, play other games even! I just want to chill ---and have fun. I'm playing FFXIV, not using it as a dating app.

You bring up a lot of valid points that DO happen in this community. There are definitely people that treat the game like their second life and online soap opera, but sadly that's just kind of the internet no matter where you go, cause at the end of the day, it's just people, and the reality of it is that people suck sometimes. =/ Especially when you start getting into the relationships and social hierarchies. I've found playing with people around my age or people mature for their age has been game-changing for me (personally) , and I've had a much better time, and the smaller I keep my inner circle the better - which kind of rolls into that cliques thing you talked about lol. This game almost... encourages cliques? With most of the content only needing 4 or 8 to queue, even I'm guilty of falling back on the same set of 8 people, normally my raid team, to do content with. I don't think cliques are necessarily a bad thing unless they become toxic. You also made another phenomenal point about it being difficult (even in 2021) being a woman in game. I don't get it as much anymore, because I play mostly with my raid team for most content (which includes my boyfriend), and as raid leader the expectations are set really early on from me, lol. Not that I even really needed to set them. I am really lucky to run with a great group of guys that have never made any kind of inappropriate moves or put me in that situation. That being said, I do still see instances of me too moments and drama coming from our community and it's ... demoralizing at times, but then I remember that there are still amazing people in the game. I'm like you, in my 30's, playing with my significant other, just trying to have fun in the game, and I think what's really helped me is just knowing what I want from the game and not really associating with people that I think will bring drama. Instead I focus on the amazing ones. I have lots of acquaintances in the game, a good group of friends that I can call on for various content, and a handful of ride or die that I do just about everything with in game, and for me - that's all I need at this point. Quality over Quantity! XD I just realized how much I wrote, but you made a lot of great points and I wanted to comment/agree with them!!! I think that journey of learning and discovery is going to be one everyone has to make and eventually, they will find their 'roots' so to speak.

I mean, its certainly possible! But the overview of finding people that are worthwhile is limited, to add beyond all of the dramas me and my husband encountered as many times girls were entirely trying to lure him into erotic interactions saying "Your wife will never know" or that "There were greener pastures"---It totally broke me, and my desire to ever trust any girls that are single. (And that incident happened in 3 different FC too!) All I'm saying is, if you find good friends, amazing friends that want to play and enjoy the content with you? It's a blessing ---because nowadays? It is simply hard to find anyone that isn't about their self-entitlement and gain. Even so, I still hope one day that I'll have good friends or group, to pat my shoulder and ask if I want to hang out :)

@@EverydayEorzean Crystal lol I mean, me and the husband are rpers so its preferably the best place for it. But the Rp community left a very sour taste in our mouth for the past 2 years. We server changed to a smaller server right after the big merge, but I'm still iffy about just changing data center. There is a lot of nice stuff on Crystal, and I enjoy the ambiance and groups mostly. Also the music shows, and the such. We've been on the fence to change fearing the elitism of super raiders ---but I mean, everyone says something about Crystal being casual shit and rp while Aether is full of elistist peeps. I can't really say--all I know is that we try to make the best of what we can XD

So heres how my ..now friend did it.... she randomly chose me out of boredom...targeted me...and just started staring at me and following me...even when I changed zones... I said hello....and it went from there
