I've mained Monk for a very long time now and it's simply the perfect job for me. I can't get enough of it. Ninja will become my off class in 3.2 onwards since its pace is the same as Monk really...and because the Paladin in my static wants to go Dark Knight at some point. But yeah, Monk all day. Bring in a hammer job and Dragon Kick will be way better.

Complete respect for this. I level a monk to 50 and then spent hours pulling out my hair as I realized that I really wasn't good at it. The positioning is so important and it wasn't my style. That is why now when I see a completely leveled monk I am kind of in awe.

I'm only level 52 with mine, but I agree. when I play as another class, I always end up gravitating back to my monk. I wanted to try heavensward as a different class, but.....yeah. punching and kicking things is so satisfying.XD

Great video as always! I also main NIN and have had a lot of success with the job. I learned a few things here to make me more effective. I'll need to start using more of Kiss of the Viper rather than wasp considering how much I use Juggulate in my Aeolian edge rotation. I really fell in love with the job once I mastered Suiton/trick attack with proper positioning unleashing thousands of damage in crit. I can't say how many times I was one of the last guys standing in T9 and I finished the fight with that move. NIN for the win but in my raid parties I do like to be accompanied by either a DRG or Monk rather than all Black Mages.

Lag does not hurt blood of the dragon...Lags destroy blood of the dragon and most of your rotation. Even if it is those pesky 3 second lag spike...

Again would like to see these redone if there were massive changes to classes via Storm blood, since with it being a new expansion things always change with buffs to some classes and nurf changes to others.

When talking about utility it should be mentioned that presently Monk is the sole user of blunt damage, and that doesn't seem likely to change anytime soon given the next two classes are SAM and RDM. It's a bit of a shame that MCH doesn't deal blunt to give them some synergy with Monk, but at least they play well with DRG.

You forgot that with Kiss of the Viper up, the effect of Mug changes. With Kiss of the Viper up, Ninjas get hp back equal to 50% of Mugs damage

I wish they made jump work like spineshatter dive and dragon fire dive, so you don't have to worry so much about animation locking yourself into an aoe and dying and you have a 30 second cd mobility button.

I main Monk, but sometimes I can't alternate between Bootshine and Dragon Kick because when I get done putting Demolish and Touch of Death up, Dragon Kick's debuff is going to wear off in five seconds. Sometimes I can't just use Dragon Kick, then use the other abilities and have Dragon Kick's debuff inflict on the target, it makes me go through Twin Snakes, Snap Punch and then Dragon Kick to get the debuff up. Does that mean I didn't reuse Dragon Kick to extend the debuff's timer on time, or is it something else?

i main Monk and the recent patch has made me love it all the more, Demolish got a nice buff and Howling Fist is just nuts now :) and i personaly DO use Fracture, if i get to Demolish and it still has a few seconds left, i'll slap 'em with Fracture.

Re-watching this video because recently as a Monk main, I've noticed that a lot of mechanics in Extreme Trials and Raids will nearly always result in loss of Greased Lightning stacks which is pretty annoying and inconvenient since the stacks disappear as the boss 'returns' or is no longer invulnerable, and more often than not this happens too fast for Perfect Balance to come back up. I love playing as a Monk and I've investing so many tomes into my Monk, but I'm starting to wonder if I should switch class.

I always considered dragoon to be the "black mage" of melee jobs. For a melee job in an MMO, it's GCD is really slow. However, once you start getting more abilities, it's really fun. Especially once you master your jumps, blood of the dragon skills, and other cooldowns. Also getting out of the loldrg bracket is the best feeling ever.

it does have the hardest hitting attacks of all the melee jobs, yeah. I've seen videos of 8k jump crits under certain situations. the other two make up for it with their increased speed though

I would like to remove One Ilm Punch's effect completely. I would like to give it Touch of Death's effect, and change Touch of Death's effect to be a ranged attack that works similar to Wave Fist in Final Fantasy Tactics. This way Monk could pull targets out of groups when soloing, and you could use One Ilm punch to apply the dot without slowing down your rotation.

One thing you didn't mention is how as a Ninja, you actually become probably the most valuable to a raid if the party has a WAR and BRD in it due to Storm's Eye removing the need to keep up Dancing Edge, therefore replacing it with the stronger Aeolian Edge when you would normally use it and Foe's Requiem increasing the damage from the Mudras.

As a NIN i can't tell you how many times i saved DDers from death thanks to smoke screen. It also helps a lot with tanks, who like to wait for all buffs to wear off before pulling, by transferring hate back to them after a smn pulls with deathflare lol

Personally I prefer the Monk, but I was a bit disappointed with the new Heavensward abilities it gained since they were mostly utility (yes I was hoping for a Greased Lightning 4) but after a while I got used to the new abilities and realised how useful they were.

I just did the into beasts maw main story mission as a gladiator and ive got to say i dont think tanking is for me. Im looking to switch but don't know to what. Ive got Thaumaturge up to level 10 and conjurer up to 10 aw well but I dont want to be a healer. I could continue with Thaumaturge but I do like mele DPS. Any suggestions between the 3 here is Ninja pretty hard

memphis407 DRG is great if you're new to MMOs since the early levels are really basic combos, but will be really boring for veterans until late-game, where it becomes a ton of fun to master. NIN is the most complicated to master and suffers the most from latecy issues (when casting mudras), but is fun at all levels and has so much to offer both in and out of dungeons. MNK is the easiest to learn without suffering from the simplicity of early DRG and is arguably the strongest, but I find their combos not as exciting as DRGs or NINs at higher levels.

I main SMN too and am leveling all of my other DPS. I'll hit 60 on NIN tomorrow, was surprised how much fun I had with it. So much so, I'm seriously considering changing my main which I thought I would never do. Just hit 30 on DRG so all I can say is the Jump's liven up the Lancer class HUGELY. MNK is harder for me with the movement required and just figuring out my rotation. Amongst the melee, it's proven to be the most complicated for me, personally. I think I appreciate NIN because of playing SMN, utilities man.

The thing is at the end of the day, a dps who can buff the whole team is always more useful than a dps who does 10% more dps individually. As a dragoon main myself I have no problem maintaining top 1 and 2 dps on any team I'm in while boosting everyone else's crit

So to me the thing about it is that Dragoon is very much my Favorite as of now. It was my third classed I maxed our in ARR and the second in TF and the only class I really like playing on High Roullettes. I think i like ti more then the other classes, cause it has that Tank feel in the combos. Though I getting a little overwhelmed by the amount of buttons. I tried Pulgist trying to see how they do when I hit monk but I have not gone that far yet. Right now Ninja felt the simplest out of the three, at the moment. I also haven't maxed it out yet but at the current level, it has far less keys. Though when i start getting more Ninjitsus I think I may get to see why it going to get me a hard time.

Nox Vega hey sorry this comment is so late (so i'm not sure if you've found your answer already) but if you're referring to the MNK Character art that he shows at the very beginning is indeed the entire temple set (complete with relic weapon) the character model that he uses however is the artifact gear set you can exchange for centurio seals in Ishgard (heavensward expansion) i forget the name of the set. Always liked jobs/classes that use dual daggers or swords, hence I main ninja. Dragoon is a close second followed by monk. Love dragoons tanky feel with awesome damage and a lot of their armor looks cool as hell. Monks also has awesome damage and cool skill animations. But what can I say, I'm drawn to dual wielding.

After 3.0 I found that all 3 melee dps jobs are equal. I still like monk the best, followed by ninja, and then dragoon. But can use all 3 just fine. And the first 26 levels of dragoon go just fine if you know how to level quickly. There is one job that takes longer to get interesting. Personally I find the first 49 levels of black mage boring as all. I remember almost falling asleep many times while leveling it. After 50 however black mage was manageable. I still rather use summoner though.

I main NIN and i love it a lot, but i never ever see anyone else playing it anymore. If i join Void Ark it will be nothing but summoners, black mages and dragoons with a monk now and again. I wonder if its just the most underpowered right now or people are that put off by mudra dialing.

+TheDeliciousMystery not underpowered If you check out FFLOGS the data can be very very misleading. Lots of people padding numbers in places that just don't matter. EX: DRG using Geirskogulto hit two legs in A4S at the same time.. + dolls, depending on how your group manages the dolls. DRG suffers heavily from quarantine in A4S. Monk and ninja don't appear to suffer as greatly. Not so much because of skill, but because of the # of GCD to get debuffs and buffs back up on BOTD and having to save jumps to push quarantine quicker or gap close. MNK just rofl stomps through A3S and A4S. Ninjas and Monks can refresh their buffs on immune targets to maintain them (ex: hitting the water tornado during p3 transition in A3S to keep Greased lightning up) DRG cannot do this. I've rolled with both mnk or nin (I main drg) You cannot refresh BOTD on immune targets or refresh BOTD as quickly.. 4 gcd opposed to 3 on mnk or nin.. shoulder tackle is godly and always available to gap close when needed. Our ninja in A4S on doll duty can easily hit numbers close to a drg who isn't padding pointless dmg. 1250 - 1350's. 1300+ will always involve some sort of geirskogul or phlebotomize double dotting on targets. Ninja can do this very well; double dotting hands in A3S, legs and dolls in A4S. Having t sacrifice for missing royal pent or other issues always happens in my group, keeping my logged a4s numbers in the 1270's, with 1 lb and royal sac, opposed to 1300+ of some drg. However, our ninja still hit 1250ish doing dolls, no sac or lb.

+TheDeliciousMystery It's really role priority here instead of a balance of the jobs. DPS mains want big numbers with good utility first, anything that requires too much situational use is usually disregarded. (That's a bit of an exaggeration.)

+Nathan Khallil Im almost 100% certain you cannot keep GL via hitting the tornado the buff will not apply, the only thing hitting the tornado is good for is moving up to your next combo, since monk combos require the buff you cannot use it as such. Its really only useful for warrior to keep stacks up. pointless on nin too unless youre trying to get dancing edge off on a big add quicker when they spawn

I memorized my mudras pretty fast, even if I haven't touched the job in a while. While Happy does it by order in his hotbar, I literally remember it by the name of the mudras. I can also do it from cross bar order as well though, but I like to do it more by name.

I laughed when you talked about BLM like that. I main BLM and make sure to use Quelling Strikes whenever I go into what I like to call 'Burn Mode'. Although I've had a few Ninja's drop a Smokescreen on me whenever I start doing that, just to make sure I don't pull hate.

I'm stuck at either Monk or Ninja since I don't have A dragoon at 60. I use to main monk and then I mained ninja. I now main AST and BLM but I miss my melee, and enjoyed both when levelling them to 60 etc. I don't have a dragoon At 60 it's at 52 in not really a fan of the dragoon myself but Any opinions would be brill on What you would chose :)

I generally recommend: Invigorate, B4B, Mercy Stroke (dps boost plus self heal), Bloodbath over foresight (only works on taking physical damage) or keen flurry (not useful in general) as an alternative if 2nd wind is not up or being saved elsewhere, and fracture. Regarding fracture there are specific timings in which you'll want to use it. Generally when you have about 3-4 seconds left on Dragon Kick and all your other buffs and DoTs have adequate time before needing to reset them, that's when you use fracture. Other than that you can opt to use it over ToD if ToD won't run it's full duration by the time the target is dead. fracture must run its duration or else you generally shouldn't be applying any dots at that point.

Bloodbath is generally preferable defensive tool over foresight (physical defense only) and keen flurry (generally useless on monks) while also being an alternative if 2nd Wind isn't up or is being saved for certain moments in a fight. Mercy stroke is a flat out dps boost with useful self heal. Regarding Fracture there are two specific times to use it in rotations and shouldn't be maintained 100% of the time. The 1st case is when you have about 3-4 seconds left on Dragon kick and all other timers have adequate time before needing to be reset such as Demolish or Twin Snakes. This means that every 3 to 5 rotations will have an open window to apply a new fracture while you are in Coeurl form. The 2nd case is a choice to use Fracture over ToD if ToD won't run it's full duration by the time the target is killed. Note that fracture must run its full duration or else it's not worth it to be using any dots (including demolish) by that point. You have to predict that sort of timing depending how fast a target is being burned down before dots are unnecessary. DO keep in mind that fracture should be the first thing to omit in your rotations should you start to TP starve but this occurs less often due to purification.

+TheIceLurker battle litany helps all members including casters and the piercing buff adds 100 more group dos because it increases bard/mch by sooooo much, nin brings great party dps but it actually doesnt bring as much as drg technically

+TheIceLurker IDK about that I have seen DRG maintain 1600-1700 plus in a raid setting. I have never seen a Ninja do this ever, hell I have never seen a monk do it. Take that high dps and add battle litany to the group to up its DPS and that's a lot more damage overall especially if all classes hit there peak damage during the buffs. I do believe ninja come out on top by debuffing the targets Vul ever min but again it take high raid coordination to make sure people know and will maximize the effect. Monk well I love it too. I usually see the dps charts show DRG, MNK, NIN when it comes to damage.

Marauder and Lancer abilities are pretty useful when you main monk, especially in raids. Bloodbath saved my life so many times !

i cant handle the monk because its rotation buttons almost broke my fingers, i just dont know where to put them and use them properly without getting confused where my next button was, since it has 6. is there a decent way to put the rotation buttons in your hotbar without having your fingers go across the keyboard? (not literally but you get my point).

most people play monk with a gamepad or controller, rarely do you see monks on console with a keyboard/mouse and probably a little less than half the time the pc monks you run across will be using a gamepad. once you set it so that you have two sets hotbars on your gamepad and you master that, you mastered Monk

+Dru Blanks Wut? Just put rear positionals on 1,2,3 and put all flank positionals on Q,E,R. Really don't need a controller for what is essentially the simplest Melee dps in the game.
