So... it seems to actually be physical ranged and magic, not any physical and magic. Don't hit is head with physical ranged attacks and don't hit his tail with magic. This doesn't actually really make any differences for the guide though in terms of what I said about physical dealers hitting his tail and magic dealers hitting his head. Just thought I would clarify here that it's actually physical ranged and magic, not any physical and magic like I originally thought. At least it seems to be that way. I just did Levi hard right now for the first time since making this guide lol
@redwolfmatt5 жыл бұрын
does this mean that redmage should build on the head, melee combo on the tail, then go back to casting on the head?
@TomScottDoesStuff5 жыл бұрын
@@redwolfmatt Sorry red I only just saw your comment (youtube didn't put it in my feed for some reason?). That's a good question but I would imagine that as the majority of a red mage's bread & butter is flinging spells, every attack of theirs will count as magic - or rather, you wont kill yourself hitting his head with everything. I can't 100% confirm this but I would be quite surprised if it didn't go this way. Sorry for the late response!

So... they say it's so easy you don't need a guide. The thing is, as a new player I have absolutely no clue which ones are easy and which one are not, so I'd rather look up and don't screw up. They say you don't need guide, I say because of this guide I won't attack the head as a dumb clueless melee dps. Thanks a lot, Tom.

One of my annoyances with the player base in general is when a raid or dungeon is declared so easy any one can clear it without help, when sometimes, those like you and me actually need a few clear cut tips. Thanks to this vid, I learned that the head and the tail deflect differrent damage. Very helpful!

And it's not just being the n00b who causes everyone to wipe: while FFXIV's community is generally a decent place, the players can be...impatient with those who just need a few pointers on dungeons or trials they've never done. I've been kicked from more than a few such instances rather than the other players explain what I'm doing wrong.

People who say "This encounter is too easy for the guide" seem to forget that they were sprouts once. We're ALL sprouts at some point. I don't get what's so hard to understand for some people: Some players, like myself, don't like going into these things blind because they don't want to get blindsided by a mechanic that they didn't see coming. I even watched the Cape Westwind guide before learning (and experiencing firsthand) how easy it is, because I wanted to know what I was getting into and didn't want to be That Guy (turns out that you literally can't be That Guy in Cape Westwind. The boss is That Guy). Not everyone learns the same way; if you don't want to use a guide.......don't use a guide. But don't complain about the people that do. In other news, great guide!
@TomScottDoesStuff3 жыл бұрын
Yep, I completely agree. Depending on your group role you can probably survive through a large amount of content I cover without watching a guide but there are still a lot of people who would still rather know what they are getting into, myself included. Also 'the boss is that guy' :D
@LobsterFusion3 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I like to have guides for MMO boss fights because I don’t want to weigh my group down with my n00bness. Or die early and watch everyone else beat it.

I really like that concept of a "multi-role" guide. Should have more views.
@TomScottDoesStuff7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Onkelkarlie! I'm also (obviously) quite a fan of the style too for a couple of reasons. Running the dungeon or trial as each role gives me some insight as to what it's like doing it as role X (which helps me to create role specific advice) but running each place multiple times also ensures I get all the footage I need. For my newer guides I've even broken the roles down further by adding a ranged dps viewpoint. I'm quite happy with how the guides turn out so thank you for your support!

Thank you for putting this video up. I'm coming rather late to the party, having recently started playing FF XIV, and I tend to have moments of anxiety that make it insanely hard to do things like this, even if veteran players see it as "too easy to need a guide." MSQ suddenly not having npcs help me anymore has been a difficult hurdle, because I don't want to be the newbie screwing something up. Npcs don't judge me, they follow my lead and don't yell at me for any reason. You told me everything I needed to know, in whatever role I chose to play, and completely defused my anxiety about it because I now had a clue of what I was supposed to be doing. Even though the extreme majority of players have been absolutely the nicest players I have ever seen, I'm rather traumatized to the point of expecting to be screamed at for screwing up even the most minor of things. In other games I've been kicked from groups because I said I was new, and the entire point of that dungeon was to gain gear and learn it. So guides like this have been extremely valuable to me. I will also say though, players have been wonderful. In several instances me saying I was new was immediately met with quick things I needed to know, assurance that they had my back, and welcomed me to the game. But when this anxiety hits, all the kindness in the world never seems enough to break it. Even if the overall fight is "easy," this really helped me out. Being told it's easy and having it explained that I don't need to worry about much are two completely different things.
@TomScottDoesStuff2 жыл бұрын
Hey no worries. One thing that's very different in FFXIV compared to games like WoW is that the culture is entirely different. People are (generally) very encouraging and will stick out dungeon wipes rather than instantly leave. It's quite enjoyable to give back to that cycle later once you've started to master things. Things like the commendation system, or the first-timer bonus rewards for everyone do wonders for people being nice + people look out for new leaves like little baby birds. Plus even if you do fuck up and cause a wipe (I still do this sometimes if I'm just not paying attention), if you own up people are fine. I'm sure we have our own share of pooheads but I can count the ones I've met on one hand. Anyway I'm glad the guide helped and hopefully you can shake off some anxiety as you get more used to the way most FF players play 🥳

Easy or not, someone is always new going into this and may want to know what's coming rather than running around look like a stupid headless chicken. But anyway this guide was great, clear and concise (and funny!). I'll be looking for your guides more often now. :)
@TomScottDoesStuff7 жыл бұрын
Thanks SpazKaz (can I call you SpazKaz? I'm calling you SpazKaz). I believe she didn't do them as they were considered too easy and not worth making a guide over. When I first did some of these trials I had to look at extreme versions (which are usually much longer videos) and then try and prepare for anything which was a bit annoying. I'm always happy to know when these guides have helped people out of the situation I was in at the time. At the moment my plan (as I'm back playing the game) is to fill in any holes for missing guides such as Ifrit, Garuda and Titan hard while also making updated guides for every dungeon as certain fights have changed now that the content gets facerolled more easily. So yeah, watch this space! (maybe some of my other game videos too lol #promote #criesincorner)

It can take a bit more time but when you're playing with other people it can be the wisest option in order to avoid wasting their time (though I agree it would be nice if you didn't need to go to third-party sources for that information). Of course early dungeons are mostly pretty simple but there are always one or two things to watch out for in later dungeons which makes guides more 'mandatory'.

to be honest, a boss being "so easy" it's usually said by someone with experience in that boss fight if you know how to do something you can find it easy, but if you already did that, and your result was a success, that boss won't be a problem at all as long as you repeat the same strategy, that happens in every game, and in a lot of real life scenarios, i mean... walking is so easy, right? i understand is just a way to say mechanically is not the hardest boss, but we usually say easy to everything that doesn't create a wipe easily beautifully explained tho! i was kinda scared since my only experience with leviathan was in ffxv, and i expected a really chaotic scenario lets just hope i dont die randomly at the first aoe with a rabbit above my head

Yeah this guide was made back when I was only making guides for encounters that lacked guides or the existing ones were hella out of date. I mentioned planning to make a guide for this one to my FC and a few of the comments were rather dismissive (thus the opening of this video) - but here we are 150 thousand views later :D

Started playing FFXIV because that's the only game my gf plays. Your videos are a big help so I can fast forward through the main stories to catch up with her.

Nice, playing together is fun. My wife and I are RP'ing an orc couple on WoW classic on the weekends at the moment. I'm a drunk moron and she's a mute, who just rolls her eyes a lot. And in the game too.

Thanks for the reasons you specified: yes I’ll get carried, but I’d like to know how I got carried, especially for a tsunami I magically survived.

On extreme mode there's no safety rail so those tsunamis get a little less paddling pool and a lot more 'murder everyone' :thisisfine:
